We are doing some business for a company that sells male enhancement products. They have developed a new transdermal gel called Enlargel. We hired our usual logo designer, paid him $40, and got a logo that just isn't going to cut it (see below). Our client doesn't know exactly what they want, only that it should be:
1. Clean with a memorable and eye-catching logo image.
2. Professional, as to say "this is a scientifically proven nutriceutical", I.e. it can't be "cartoonish".
3. Incorporate the colors shown below. The amber color is roughly the color of the gel, the blue is the color of the text used in promo materials, packaging, displays, etc.
<img src='http://www.arnetwork.net/images/enlargel/amber.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Orange/Amber:
HSV: 387296
RGB: 244,178,68
<img src='http://www.arnetwork.net/images/enlargel/blue.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Blue:
HSV: 20410065
RGB: 0,99,165
They like the logo image used by Nizoral shampoo, the water drop design part. So that would be a great starting point (see below).
I put together a quick example (you can see my amature graphic design skills below) of what I thought would be cool.
Anyway, we hope to get some really creative submissions, feel free to think outside the box on this one. The amber gel droplet is pretty important, but other than that, have at it.
Thanks,
Arnet.
My quick try at it:

the nizoral logo image:

the not so good logo that we paid $40 for:

Contest ends 12-08-03 (or sooner if we see a winner)

11-15-03:
I like what you all have submitted so far, I will keep this first post updated with my comments, so they don't get lost in the pages. Please be sure to use the colors mentioned above. Also, the winning logo should come in two flavors, white background/blue text and blue background white text, if that's OK. You can just do the first flavor for now, and the winner can convert later. Also, if you could put the logo on a white bottle, like the one here:
<img src='http://www.arnetwork.net/images/enlargel/bottle.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
that would be cool!
Below you will find my comments on some of the submissions that I like so far. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

Hello Arnet :)
Here's a start for your contest. I started with the waterdrop and tried to put together the target for your product - that is the "male".
Best regards,
Gilles. :)

Hello :)
Here are some variations :)
arnet
11-16-2003, 12:54 PM
Some good ones. From a practical standpoint, the logo needs to be fairly flat on the top, so that there will be room for writing underneath on the bottle. Thus, the logo image will most likely need to be to the left of the logo text. Below is an idea that I had that puts the image to the left. It is done with Kootch's logo, but could be anyone's. You can see my skills are poor, but I'm hoping that some of you will run with the idea.
Thanks.

First, let me apologize for not following up sooner. Due to some emergencies, I have been unable to work on this for a few days. That said, let's finish these up, and pick a winner.
Update: Our client has decided that they will not use the text Enlargel on the bottle, but will use it on the website and in the promotional material. They feel that men might be uncomfortable receiving and storing a bottle that says Enlargel on it. Therefore, in addition to the normal text logos (white background and blue background) we also need a long logo image that will go on the face of the bottle.
Whosoever wishes to be in the final running for this competition, please submit the following:
1. A logo with the image on the left and the text on the right, using your design, with a white background and a blue background.
- Make sure that you use the exact colors specified in the start of this thread.
2. A long version of the image portion of your logo that can be placed on the face of the bottle.
We will pick a winner on Monday, December 8.
Thanks,
ARnet

- Make sure that you use the exact colors specified in the start of this thread
Keep in mind that when viewing colors on screen there will be variations. The blue and amber on my monitor will not be the same as the blue and amber on your monitor. If you have "exact" colors that you'd like to have used then your best bet would be to specify PMS colors. The closest we can get at this point is a close guess. But that can always be tweaked.

Here's an alternate version of my last entry, without the name:
<img src='http://www.frobo.com/graphic_work/enlargel/enlargel7.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
But, you know, if women will buy a product called "Vagisil", I think you can get men to buy "Enlargel". ;)

Sorry about not being more specific earlier on the colors, I assumed that you could grab them with your image editor of choice.
They are
<img src='http://www.arnetwork.net/images/enlargel/amber.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Orange/Amber:
HSV: 387296
RGB: 244,178,68

Blue:
HSV: 20410065
RGB: 0,99,165
(I have also updated the original post)

Hello ARnet :) ,
Our client has decided that they will not use the text Enlargel on the bottle
Well, I designed your logo thinking of an image suggesting male target mixed with the gel drop. Even if the text ENLARGEL won't be on the front of the bottle, the logo will suggest properly it's MALE target - with the male profile inserted there. I used a circle logo(you can see it on the bottle) and a rounded rectangle. If you want, I can make changes to the long logo image - in the rectangle.
For the web, I used my previous designs.
I can make more changes to improve all these new designs. I'm waiting for feedback :)
Best regards,
Gilles.

Gilles,
You are right on target, and you are a major forerunner in the competition. Please give me some more image only alternatives. I like what you've done so far. Using the droplet with the man's profile is very creative, and works well with the image only on the bottle.
Thanks

Gilles,
Put the logo image in the center.
Your colors still aren't correct. The blue you're using isn't close :huh: not sure why.
Should be:
<img src='http://www.arnetwork.net/images/enlargel/amber.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Orange/Amber:
HSV: 387296
RGB: 244,178,68

Blue:

Here's a little bit different concept. I think it helps simplify the visual message by fusing the droplet element within the textual graphic. I've included a few color combinations, so if you like one in particular, I'll be happy to develop it further.
Thank you,

Hello again :) ,
I wanted to let you know that I'm leaving for Christmas holiday early on December 22. I will be out of the office untill December 29 and I won't have Internet acces untill this date: and I won't have acces to my design files either. If you wish to contact me, please do (untill Monday in the afternoon I will be able to respond to your mails). I enjoyed taking part in your contest. I wish the best of luck to all contestants, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Winner Is: Gilles
Thank you so much to all of you who have participated in this contest. I apologize again for my sometimes late responses. Many of you submitted excellent entries. Gilles won because he had the most creative and unique concept. It is odd that in a contest with 72 posts, the first one ended up the winner. Go figure :rolleyes:
Gilles,
I have PMed you, please get back with me when you are back from holiday.
