Hi,

I'm new here (great board btw !) and have a question:

Besides joining this forum I also sent off my application today - now, before participating in (logo) contests do I have to wait if my application is accepted or can I submit to contests already? Like, not starting contests but submitting work.

Thanks for the help :)

Frank

Hi Frank,
welcome to DO Forums :)

To answer your question, only authorized Design Team Members are allowed to post entries in contests. Unfortunately, you will have to wait to see if you are accepted onto the team.

I'd suggest keeping as many templates as possible on the portfolio you're sending with your application. I hear there isn't really room for more logo designers, we're more in the need for template designers, illustrators and flash artists.

Good luck though, hopefully we'll see you on the team shortly

Thanks for the quick response;

I hope I get accepted although I'm a logo designer "only" - check out my portfolio if ya like (posted in the introduction forum) to see if my work meets the general quality standards here.I certainly hope so as I think this is a great board and I also think might have something to contribute to this forum not only in terms of logo design but marketing, domain names etc - please check my introduction for this :)

Thanks,

Frank

Hey Frank,

Personally, I think your work's really nice and meets the standard.
I give you the Elements Seal of Approval

<img src='http://www.dilicious.ca/outpost/approved.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Unfortunately though, the decision's up to Bossman Palmer.
I hear he gets about a hundred application weekly, so it may take a little while for him to get to your application. Hang in there, hopefully the outcome will be a good one.

Good luck :)

Thanks for the "Elements Seal of Approval" - it's appreciated :D

One more question though - how would the Bossman know which application belongs to which username here ? As I joined the forum *after* having sent my application I didn't mention my username of course.

Thanks,

Frank

I just do a search using Outlook Express by the name, email address or url. I usually don't have trouble finding them.

To be perfectly honest I think we are "full up" of logo designers at this point. I'll look over yours and let you know. What we need are people that are specialists in Flash, templates, or illustrations.

Not that this is a bad thing but the contest holders are getting a bit overwhelmed with entries in the logo contests.

Actually I should give you this guys (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showtopic=1656) spot. He doesn't seem to appreciate the invitation.

Wow that would be a great xmas gift for me, really.

I just checked out the template forum as well as the logo forum and have to say I'd be honored to be a member of a team of so many talented designers.

Thanks for considering,

Frank

If all the good folks come over here...

Well, ermmm

We will have a blast ;-)

Good luck. I will pray you get an xmas gift

Ah, the (in)famous Beatz. :D Welcome over here! I see you at a few of the same places I hit, including DNF and WHT.

Same person?

nice, I saw some of your logos over there, including the one you whipped up after the WWF incident. Sad what's happened over at DNF since it sold, eh? Auctions are pure junk, one week recently only one domain sold for $1. :)

I can't wait to see what you can pull off here. Welcome bud.

Really?

All I did was go over to Domain Outlet and type it in:)

Palmer

Outpost! ;)

I know, that's what I meant, I've been searching all morning for domain names. None of the ones on your list are any different then ones I've already decided against :)

Probably going to go with bonitanaplesrental.com

Well I don't have a domain with florida and rental in it but I do have a realestate domain that was a live site before with many inpointing links - if that helps ;)

Just kiddin! Palmer, I was sort of surprised you took this long to approve him.

Oh it's not that he isn't good, in fact I red flagged his first application from 9/29 (meaning he was worthy of an invitation) It's just that we honestly have plenty of logo designers at this point. We're starting to get more coming in though so I sent the invite.

WildCard

No, no, I wasn't inferring you didn't think he was good. Not at all. Glad you brought him in, that's all.

What sites are DNF and WHT? These have been mentioned a few times in this thread?

I know, that's what I meant, I've been searching all morning for domain names. None of the ones on your list are any different then ones I've already decided against

Probably going to go with bonitanaplesrental.com

palmer, domain name is important to search engine ranking too, let me know if you need any help, after all you might find the right keyword and domain still available ;)

Hows the other stuff coming?

Palmer
11-16-2003, 09:02 AM
Not sure about DNF but WHT is http://www.webhostingtalk.com

I'm aware of the domain name being a factor in the search engine results. We ended up going with naplesbonitarental.com since more people search for place to stay in Naples Florida.

I'm kicking myself for not registering floridarentals.com when I had the chance. The next morning it was renewed by the owner and not available anymore. They had let it expire.

Regarding the "other stuff". I have 3 sites to complete for clients that are taking the majority of my time right now. Google is so messed up right now it doesn't even matter. :(

DNF is dnforum.com, one of the biggest domain forums out there.

Some others:

http://dnforum.com
http://domainstate.com
http://namepros.com

These are the biggest domain communities on the net.

http://sedo.us is a big marketplace for selling and buying "used" domains, as well as http://afternic.com

Umm what else;

http://enom
http://dotster.com
http://godaddy.com

are some of the most common and cheapest registrars; recommended.

If anyone has any other questions related to domains, let me know and I'll try to answer them.
