(Admin code added by Palmer - 1UC672712H850643C REF)

We're looking for a fun design for a first time ever dog event in Northern California. It is an APDT Rally Trial which is a form of dog obedience. It is run on a course where dog/handler teams move from sign to sign performing whatever the exercise is that is listed on the sign.

We'd like to capture the spirit of the event (fun, relaxed, teamwork, happy dogs and people) using some of the items specific to this type of competition (cones, jumps, symbols from the actual signs, etc.). The Rally signs are listed here at the bottom of the page http://www.apdt.com/po/rally/rules/default.aspx

A video of an actual competition run is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ek-YuqWml-4

Some other ideas/requirements:

- a generic dog (no specific breed since lots of dogs competing in APDT are mixes)
- something that represents N. Ca like maybe the Golden Gate Bridge or a Cable Car incorporated in a fun way
- the text APDT Rally Trial and date October 10-11, 2009
- "sponsored by" and my logo (attached)
- a 2-3 color design that will be put on light colored t-shirts (light blue, white)
- single sided (could possibly do a small design on the left chest area and large on the back)

Thank you designers and I'm looking forward to your creativity!

Hi there,
I have a couple ideas.
First is the cable car, with the Rally name, date and sponsor shown as "advertisement" on the car.
The apssengers are all doggies.
Or...

cre8or
08-10-2009, 06:48 PM
...idea #2.
Same cable car, with it's canine passengers, the "ad" is the date, and the rally name and sponsor shown larger, outside the design.

I'm sorry for the rough sketches - since I'll be illustrating this from the ground up, I didn't want to put alot of effort in a design that wasn't in the right direction.

I'll await your feedback before moving ahead.
Please advise.

Love the designs Cre8or! I like the larger text on the second design so that it's more clear what the event name and date are. The design captures the Northern California theme and the dogs but the one element that is missing is something that represents the sport of Rally. It could be something simple like some of the signs or symbols. Any ideas?

Hello JR,
(Hope you don't mind that I call you JR -- Justrewards is just so long, and my fingers get tied up easily... VERY easily)
:)

Anyway, I've looked at the signs, and I wasn't sure how to incorporate them in a design that wasn't too busy.

So here, I've shown the cable car stopping on the "finish" star...

cre8or
08-11-2009, 07:12 PM
... here, the "finish" star is behind the cable car, but it looks like a design element (to a layman like myself), but the Rally folks should recognize it as the Finish.

Another idea I had - but like I said, I thought it might be too busy - was to have a few poochies holding a few different signs...

Let me know what you think.

I'll be honest, I'm absolutely whacked tonight, so I'll wait for your feedback, and hit the drawing board tomorrow night, and hopefully have something a little "more finished" to show you.
Thankyou kindly,
Kimber

I think you're right about the star. It does look too generic. I think using any of the signs would need to include the text on the sign as well in order to really be obvious as to what it is. Going on the thought you had of having some of the dogs hold signs, I'm wondering if you could do this without it being too cluttered? I think it's a great idea! The signs that I think would be good to use - Start, Finish, 360 Right, Left Turn, and maybe have a dog holding a cone or a stack of 3-4 cones? If you need to remove a couple of dogs to make it less cluttered, I think that would be fine. Thanks!

Hello,
Thankyou kindly, for wating for me -- I appreciate it very much.
Here is the "final" artwork. I've kept it to your two logo colours, to keep screen printing costs down.
If you print on a non-white tshirt, there will be three colours, as white will need to be screened as well.

NOTE PLEASE: The colours are shown in CMYK, because your logo didn't show Pantone colours. If you could kindly provide those numbers, I can edit the artwork to reflect those colours.

Please advise.
Sincerely,
Kimber

Thanks Crea8or. I don't think the all blue colors will work since I'm planning to put this on a light blue t-shirt - too much blue. In trying to keep this to 3 colors, can you make the blues (including my logo) the dark blue, maybe use black (or another color you think will complement the design), and use the green from the actual Rally signs on the symbols. It's important to keep the signs as close to the originals as possible. Can you also put the text from the signs on the signs the dogs are holding and be able to see it?

The pantone colors for the two blues in my logo are Pantone DS 206-2 C Pantone DS 211-5 C. I don't know which is which.

I'm not loving the way the font looks for the APDT Rally Trial text. Is it the same as the rest of the font? The smaller font looks "cleaner" but I can't tell if that's just because it's smaller.

I like the use of the paws on the cable car!

Once you have the colors changed, can you also show the design on a light blue t-shirt so I can get an idea of how the colors will work?

Thanks!

Hello,
I have changed the colour of the design -- instead of using black, which I thought may look a bit "harsh", I've opted for a charcoal-colour. I've also used the green from the signs, and added the text.
I've aslo changed the font -- previously, it was "Good Dog Plain"/. Now, it is "Happy Jack".

Please advise.

Here is the design on a blue tshirt.
Really, the only way you'll get a "true" representation of the colours on the shirt is to speak to your screen printer, show them what you'd like, ask their opinion, and ask them if they could provide you with a sample, or some sort of a representation.
All I'm asking is that you keep in mind, this is a simulation, and probably not the best representation.
Thankyou kindly,
Kimber

Thanks for the changes, Cre8tor. I appreciate your hard work.

I know we're trying to keep the number of colors down but everything in the green is just too much green. I'd like the signs to be green but not the rest of the text and the dogs. How about the dark blue for all the dark areas, the green on the signs, and something else for the dogs? The text could either be the dark blue or the color used on the dogs And what about eliminating the white background and letting the shirt color show there? Wouldn't that eliminate a color?

The sign the dog is holding that says Off set Figure 8 needs to be changed (it's not used at this particular competition). I think the Fast Pace sign would work.

The new font is a bit too chunky. The previous one was closer but was too "squiggly" (how's that for a technical term?!). Just for an idea, there is a font I like called Kristen.

Lastly, the t-shirt mock up was really helpful. I will want the design to be smaller on the shirt so it's more on the chest rather the the entire front. Just want to make sure all is still readable. Can you make my logo a bit smaller?

Thanks again!

Hi there,
I've changed the charcoal back to the blue.
The signs are green -- with the fig. 8 sign changed to fast pace.
I've introduced orange as the fourth colour. I feel it will compliment the blues - the printed blue and the t-shirt blue, and looks pleasant with the green.
I've also changed the font to Kristen ITC.
I've also made you logo a bit smaller.

Regarding eliminating the white:
You can do it, and yes - it would eliminate a colour - but the white dogs would be the t-shirt colour as well.

Please advise.

An idea of how it may look on a tshirt.

I think this one is looking really good! Just a couple of more tweaks. Can you change the color of the paws at the top of the cable car to the dark blue? Can you remove all of the white color (so the t-shirt color shows through there)? I'd like to keep this design to 3 colors max.

Regarding the font, is the APDT Rally Trial text in bold? If not, can you try it to see if it will pop a little more? The Sponsored by text is sitting too close to the logo (the "p" is touching my logo) - can you reposition it? Lastly, can you use a lower case "s" for the first "s" in Sponsored? I like the look of that one better than the cap.

Thanks!

Okay, here we go, again: :)

I have changed the paws to blue.
I have removed all white.
There is no "bold" option for the font Kirsten ITc, so I have put an outline on it, to thicken it up.
I've moved "sponsored by" away from your logo.
I've made the "S" in "Sponsored" lower-case.

Please advise.
(Shirt to follow).

Again, great work! I like all the changes and think the design works well in these 3 colors.

Just 3 little minor changes.
1. Can you remove the green from the 2 sections of the cable car (at the front and the back).
2. Can you make the font on the Fast Pace sign just a little larger? I'm afraid it won't be seen on the t-shirt.
3. In the t-shirt view, it looks like the first 3 letters of APDT are touching the cable car. Will it actually print like that or will it print as it shows in the design above? If it will touch it, can you move it just a smidge?

Thanks!

Hello JR,
Here's your last round of changes:
1. I've removed the green from the cable car.
2. I've made the font for both "Fast Pace" and "360 Left" a little larger.
3. The letters APDT were not touching the cable car in the last revision, but I have moved them apart a wee bit, becasue it does look a bit better.

Please advise.
If we're good to go, let me know, so I can prepare your final file package and send you the download inforamtion.

I'll wait for your reply.

The design looks great! Thanks. One last thing though. On this t-shirt view (unlike the others), the J in my logo looks cut off at the bottom. Can you just take a quick look at that? Once it's ok, we're good to go!

I'd like the file in .jpg .eps .pdf .gif .tif and any other formats you think I would need for printing or web uses.

Thanks!

Hi the J isn't cut off.
The artwork I will be preparing is the artwork shown in the previous post. -- #32 rev # 05.
If that artwork is satisfactory (please advise) I will prepare my standard file packages, which will include all the formats you should need, and PM you with the download information.
Please advise.
