Hi All,

I need a logo for my company Select Development Solutions and
after looking around here and seeing the great looking work I can
not wait to see what you come up with.

Our main business is web application development and sales. Basically
we create programs (mostly PHP) to sell. Then provide customization
services for them. We also do hosting, domain registration, etc.
separately on other sites but under the same company name.
Our current market is made up of everyone from web designers
to end-users who know little if anything about the web.

What I am looking for is a unique catchy logo that is professional but
friendly if that makes any sense. A techy look would be ok but I am not
really into cute. The colors are open and up to you. The logo may
contain the name Select Development Solutions or the domain
SelectDevelopment.com or both. I don't really have a tag line so
generic phrases like "Internet Solutions" or "Web Solutions" will be
fine but feel free to make one up if you like.

The logo does NOT need to fit with the current site layout or colors!

The logo will be used for the web as well as for marketing materials.
Ads, letterheads, business cards, shirts, etc...

I am going to leave the creativity up to you. I enjoy coding
but when it comes to graphics and colors I have almost worked
my way up to novice. I am open for all of your ideas.

I will try to keep up with my thoughts on your designs as much as possible
but I am out without Internet access Monday afternoon to Friday morning so
please do not be discouraged if I don't post during that time.

Company: Select Development Solutions
Domain: SelectDevelopment.com (http://www.selectdevelopment.com)
Prize: $100
Deadline: On or Before November 29th

If I missed anything or you need more information let me know.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi,

Just have a few comments for you.

The domain name should just be selectdevelopment.com
not selectdevelopmentsolutions.com

I think Innovative Solutions is ok and I now that I had solutions
in my first post but after seeing it I think it is one too many.
Could we try Internet Innovations or Web Innovations. Something
that says we develop for the Internet.

I also had an idea about a graphic that gives the impression that
we connect them to the world.

Would also like to see something with a unusual type font but still
easy to read.

If possible I would like to be able to use it on a black background as
well as white but it is not a requirement.

graphxguy
Looks ok but not keen on the orange could we maybe try a red and
drop the dot com at the end. The graphic looks familiar I might have
seen it when I looked around here. (not a big deal)Could we try
something that is a little more intergrated it kind of looks like its out
by itself to me.

MUTE DESIGN
The first post looks a little to fuzzy. The 2nd and 3rd really don't strike
me. But I am not against having the letters SDS as part of it.

Let me know if I'm being to picky. I am not used to commenting on other
peoples work.

I will be out till Friday so I will probably have to wait till then to update.

Good start keep them coming!

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Again,
I just had an idea.

graphxguy could we maybe make the center on the end graphic look like
the earth and the outer orbs look like computers or people.

People connected to the world kinda thing.

Let me know if you think that would work. It would probably be hard
to make it small enough and still be clear.

Thanks,
Tim

-TimS
That was exactly my initial concept but in using that type of imagery, I'm concerned it would look too busy.

I think this logo conveys "connectivity" in every sense of the word as well as an "internet/web" feel. And it may look familiar since I used it in another contest here and the client suggested it would work better for an internet/web app company rather than representing his product.

And just so I'm clear, is it the orange in the type you don't like or everywhere there's orange?

Please don't fret about being too picky. As far as I'm concerned, I'm here for you. If you're not happy, I'm not happy.

Thanks.

I talked to Tim and he wanted me to reply for him.
Tim does not like any of the orange.
Don't worry about the earth idea we figure it would be to much.

Thank You
Stacie

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in posting.

Gilles:
Nice. I like it but could we try losing the person and turning the
lines so they are not over the text.

markbeaudry:
I like the top one but I think the domain might need to be on one
line. I am afraid people would try to go to development.com instead
of selectdevelopment.com.

Raja:
I like the one at the top the best but the graphic sorta reminds me of
pepsi and I would prefer the first letter of each word in the name be
capitalized.

Eagle:
Sorry they are nice but I don't think they will work.

MUTE DESIGN:
I like the two in the last post on the first page. Could we change the
Internet Solutions to Internet Innovations or SelectDevelopment.com
and add some color.

dynagirl:
Sorry it is nice but its not what I am looking for.

Thanks everyone great work!

Tim

include the full name Select Development Solutions or the domain
SelectDevelopment.com?

Thanks,

Hi,

graphxguy
In the bottom logo of your last post could we color the
word solutions red and the .com on the top one red.

Gilles Le Bon
Looks great. Can you turn the graphic so that the flatter part
of the swirl is facing the text. I'm not sure about the text color
I think the solid is clearer but I am going to get some opinions
before I decide.

markbeaudry
Could we take the font from the second one down make it a little
bolder and put it together with the graphic from the bottom one.

beatz
Maybe instead of just an "S" you could try something with SDS and
drop the periods in select I think it makes it look like it stands for
something.
Also please remember I need either Select Development Solutions or
SelectDevelopment.com in the logo.

Thanks,
Tim

Hello Tim,

Here are the changes you requested. Don't worry about the colors, they can easily be changed. Let me know if you want some other color combinations. In this post I included one in solid color.

I can play with tis concept more if you want (I think the swoosh lines can picture the speed and information around the globe). Or, I can try something else.

Best regards,
Gilles. :)

Hello,

markbeaudry
Nice. Could we try adding the tag line Internet Innovations to it
and I would like to see what it looks like in black and white also
if you would be so kind.

beatz
I like the last bunch better than the previous but I don't think that
style is clear enough.

pennyln
The top 2 are ok but could you see if you could add a little something.
I don't know what they just look a little to corporate to me.

Gilles Le Bon
Nice. I think I want to stay with the solid colors but can you make the
swoosh lines silver like in the top logo. Feel free to play with the concept
if you like but don't loose that version it's one of my favorites so far.
Also could you let me see it in black and white and let me know if it
will size down for a business card and still be clear.

dynagirl
Looks ok but could you change the swoosh to a fancy SDS, add the .com
to Select Development, and change Web Solutions to Internet Innovations.

Thanks everyone keep them coming!

graphxguy
Ok. I will be out this week Monday - Wednesday so take your time.

Very nice! (The one that says swoosh placement change) Could we
move the select up just enough to clear the l. I like the world better
than the hand.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

MUTE DESIGN
Could you post some other color mixes. I really like the designs
we just need to find the right colors. Please avoid orange.
Also can you add a colored box below with the domain or
tag line in it (whichever one is not on the side arch) or do
you think that would be too crowded?

Thanks,
Tim

Hello,

Very nice! I don't have any changes for you right now.

MUTE DESIGN
I like your pick but I think I like the red one better. Could
you add the domain box and in the domain can we drop the
s and use the large S for it and solutions?

pennyln
Interesting but just not me. Sorry.

Anyone
I am new to this can anyone tell me if you get the design with
a transparent background and if text color is easily changed?

For instance if I wanted to put it on a black background could
I easily change the black text to yellow and it still remain clear?

I will be out till Wednesday night so don't think I am ignoring you
if I do not post between now and then.

Changing the text color is no problem for any of the designers to do. In fact any color used in a logo is easily modified if you find that you like a design but don't like the color. Whether or not you can change it yourself after the fact depends on what graphics program you have and what format you get the finished product in. I think Corel Draw, PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator are most commonly used among the designers here.

When the contest ends you'll be given the original source file by the winning designer and if you need a transparent gif made as well, that shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure your alternate color text needs can be worked out as well. Just let the designer know what you need.

If possible I would like vector images so I can resize it easily and be
able to change the colors at leat for the text in case I put it on a black
background. I have Illustrator, Publisher, Photoshop, Freehand, Etc and
can get coreldraw if needed.

Thanks to everyone else. I will probably be having another contest in the
