Hey all,
I saw these "scroll boxes" at http://www.tiffany.com , and I think they're very cool. They're used for menus, and also for text throughout the site.
Questions -
What serverside support is required to implement this? ASP?
What clientside support is required? Flash?
How complicated is something like this to do, and how much would be a reasonable amount to offer for a contest to develop these menus and text boxes in this style in an adapatable format (I.e. change dimensions, etc)?
Thanks
Rupesh

Are you talking about something like this:
http://www.dishwalla.com/index.php -- the up and down arrows on the page for the text scroller?
Let me know if that is what you are asking...

I think he's talking about the menus on the following page...
http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/default.as...ntry1=1&mysid1= (http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/default.asp?cntry1=1&mysid1=)
Those are done with Javascript and HTML and it is called DHTML.
Or are you talking about the bottom of the following page?...
http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/category.a...DD436C&cntry1=1 (http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/category.asp?categoryID=11&start_id=6&mysid1=378692223552453582EC316DB4DD436C&cntry1=1)

Palmer, your first link is correct.
If you scroll over the menus at the top of this page:
http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/default.asp?
And also used in text here:
http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/jewelry_c...are_general.asp (http://www.tiffany.com/expertise/jewelry_care_general.asp)?
What's DHTL? Are there special requirements / restrictions?
Thanks guys,
Rupesh

That's DHTML and it will display correctly in all version 5 browsers and above. There are no restrictions other than those who surf with Javascript disabled on their browser (very few).
Here are a couple of links about them (hiermenu is the most popular DHTML menu)...

Palmer,
Thanks. Have sent some emails. Hopefully I'll have the licensing soon soon and have more (small) work available.

Rupesh

Ouch! The commercial licensing fee for HierMenusCentral is $1500. This is quite a bit more than I can afford. Are there any less expensive alternatives?

You're just wanting to make a DHTML menu correct? There are plenty of low cost and free versions here...
