Hi all,
as you might have noticed I'm new here in the design team so obviously I have some questions and maybe you won't mind answering one that is pretty urgent as the contest ends today or tomorrow - that is, do I have to post my suggestions/samples as an *image* within the thread or could I also post a link to the sample page on my own server instead?
It's just the sample set pic I have made contains more than 3 samples and is pretty big so to not violate any rules I thought it might be better to just post the link rather to hotlink the image itself.
Thanks for your time,
Frank

Hi Beatz.. I might not be the best to advise you but I think if it is that urgent.. just post your hotlink and you can edit it later if you get a different answer..
The designers private forum would also be a great place to ask as well as PM to an admin..
As far as I understand the system will not allow uploads of more than a certain size etc..
hope that helps for now, until someone more qualified comes on along for you :)

Thanks for your answer;
what I meant was I'd rather just post a link for this specific contest than to post an actual image within the contest be it uploaded or hotlinked because it's more than 3 samples (all on one .gif though) and pretty big size.
Thanks,
Frank

Yes I say go ahead and do so :)
Adding: You can always change it later..
The other idea, might be to slice your gif into three and post in different sections with an explaination of what you are presenting etc.
Nobody is going to can you for trying or making any mistake beatz...
If the comp is closing out.. just do what you can to present your idea..
It's what I would do  Based on my understanding of the way things work
good luck

PM answered :)
For those others wondering, all you do is reply in the thread and click the IMG button above the are where you type the message. Enter the url of the image on your server and click "OK".
I prefer entries to be displayed this way as it save me from allocating more disk space to D.O.

Did you know that your son looks like my angel avatar in appearance when you look at them side by side?

Hehe yeah, I guess he does. He has a lil more devil than angel in him though :P

I understand the HD situation Palmer, but note that personally I love being able to walk through a thread looking at the variance of entries and watching the transitions of changes.
Not allowing hotlinking will probably allow you to prevent or limit customers dealing direct with artists and cutting you out of the loop.
Just two thoughts. :)

You misunderstood.
He wanted to have an image on his server and make it show up on our forum in the thread.
Regarding your 2nd point, hotlinking our images from this site for the purpose of showing them to clients is permitted and there is nothing to prevent them from doing so.

Ahh! Absolutely I did misunderstand. Then yes, I see!
I've seen some contest entry holders enter a link to their website for you to see their latest entry, which takes more work to view.. :P
Sorry about that misunderstanding!

Actually what I wanted to do/know is NOT the image to show up in the thread; *because* I think it's too big and the image contains more than 3 samples.
So the actual question was if I am allowed to instead *post* a link to my server (= no image shows up in the thread but a person clicking on the link will be redirected to the webpage I have set up for the samples) and to NOT show the image within the thread.
Well, actually just like WildCard said:
"..entry holders enter a link to their website for you to see their latest entry.."
That's what im asking to do.
Thanks for your help,
Frank

I see what you mean now that I can view your entry. I do prefer that in the logo contests the images show up in the post. Template entries are different because they end up breaking the table due to their width.
In the entry you submitted if you would of had the samples as 3 across instead of 4 it would of fit into the post and you could of used the IMG button to insert it.
Not a big deal but something to think of for another time.

Thanks for clarification - so it's ok to post more than 3 samples (in one image) at a time *if* it's on my server but shows up in the post as image *and* if it fits the width ?
Sorry to be so insistant , I just wanna make sure I don't violate any rules ( which say something about 3 samples only per post but I've seen people posting more than 3 samples in one post ) so that's why I ask.

The 3 samples rule is for mock-ups of variations of how the logo would look on different mediums. ie: 1 business card, 1 web page, 1 letterhead. In addition it needs to be in one post.
If you want to have a variety of logo entries there is no rule against that and they can be in more than one post. If you have a montage of small variations (like you did for the surfboards contest) I would prefer that you put those on one canvas so we don't have 10 posts in a row with subtle variations of the same concept. It's just easier to follow things that way and compare the differences.
Thanks :)
