I am addicted to iTunes.

Apple has finally created something that is free and worth a crap load of money.

If you listen to music all day, I highly recommend downloading the iTunes software (for both mac and PC now). They have a radio section that streams radio from across the globe; basically any kind of music you could ever imagine is available on there.

Even spoken word!!!

:o :help:

Well, iTunes provides you with the ability to download in a minute or so ANY full length album that is in their massive catalogue. If there is an album you only want a few songs off of it, sure go right ahead. You can select certain tracks and download those files only in the AAC format that iTunes uses. Here is a lil background:

In numerous comparison tests, AAC comes out on top. Check out these impressive results:

AAC compressed audio at 128 kbps (stereo) has been judged by expert listeners to be “indistinguishable” from the original uncompressed audio source.* AAC compressed audio at 96 kbps generally exceeded the quality of MP3 compressed audio at 128 kbps. AAC at 128 kbps provides significantly superior performance than does MP3 at 128 kbps.* AAC was the only Internet audio codec evaluated in the range “Excellent” at 64 kbps for all of the audio items tested in EBU listening tests.*

At first I kept telling my buddy Jason to shut up and leave me alone, but for someone who buys CD's as frequently as I do, then rips them to MP3 and listens on my computer and/or burns CDR's as mp3 CD's there is nothing on the market that comes close to iTunes.

The codec alone is unreal and unless you are an engineer or production guru you won't be able to hear any difference between the actual CD track or the AAC format which iTunes offers up.

More about AAC (http://www.apple.com/mpeg4/aac/)

You can also preview tracks before you decide if they are crap or not. For example, yesterday I previewed the entire Britney Spears album (which I expected crap from anyways) and it varified such.

It is basically a one-stop application. I highly recommend downloading it and checking it out if you are an avid music listener.

Your connection must be pretty poor, cause Apple has a pipe.

For example I downloaded the entire Strokes album two days ago in less than a minute and a half.

Hmmm. That is really odd. I have not every experienced any buffering at all. In the store or via the radio stations.

By the way, listen to those 128KBPS streams....pretty **** clear.

It's great. Most of the cd's are $9.99. When you think of the outside costs associated with going to a store to try and find something, to only go and find out its not in stock, wasted gas, wasted time.

Now you can just click BUY and it downloads them into your library. You create a playlist and burn away.

Ya, I forgot you were outside the US. Sorry.

Apple has not yet finalized deals with the overseas aspects of various labels. It should be coming soon though.

Yeah iTunes is an awesome program. Once you've got your account set up, it literally only takes seconds to purchase and download a song (assuming you've got broadband). And $.99 is a fair price to pay for a song (at long last!).

Gotta love the power of the consumer's wallet. We all download music for free because of ridiculously high music prices and the record industry is forced to get with the program and give us reasonable prices.

Yep and now slowly but surely the mass market is going to be making this transition (in my opinion). Any artists I work with I get their view on it, then convince them to utililize their marketability on the INTERNET to improve their rate of exposure.

The only thing iTunes needs to do is provide the same artwork and inlays that comes with an album for people to print off that information and content if they so desire.

I think it would be good to have the option for a slight additional fee to gain access to all of that artwork...etc. If not, you still just pay $9.99 for most full length CD's.

One of the main reasons it costs a label to make a CD is the artwork, publication, shipping and packaging of their product. Eliminate that and the labels can afford to spend money elsewhere; possibly spending time developing more young talent, instead of pouring millions into over-produced crap that will fade into the sunset.

I have a skewed way of looking at this though, cause I have worked with a decent amount of recording artists...and the opinions are across the board. The age group certainly is an issue.

Agreed, the only song that stunk in the last hour was Oh Sheila by Ready for the World (http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/~harel/cgi/page/htmlit?Ready_Oh_Sheila.html). I'd like to hear some Al Green. That would make my day.
