Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
"Carley Photography" with a graphic that includes my initials “j.c.” It stands for Jacqueline Cullinan and I have been called “j.c.” since birth.
What type of product or service do you offer?
Wedding and Family Photography
How long have you been in business?
6 years
What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
Develop a consistent look across my print marketing, blog and website that looks professional, modern and a little funky.
What are your long term goals?
I would like to continue to shoot a manageable amount of weddings each year but to ramp up portraits.
When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
April 1, 2010. Hope that is long enough but if that is not the normal timing, I am happy to extend it.
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience:
Middle class brides and moms. The type who love pottery barn and Anthropologie.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Some upper class clients that love the above stores but can actually afford to shop there ☺
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Clean, modern, classy (think pottery barn) and a little funky (think Anthropologie (http://www.anthropologie.com)).
Do you have any colors in mind for your logo?
I think I would like to stick to two colors and have one of them be a darker chocolate brown. The accent color could be a green or a teal. My thought on this is that I could keep the brown as the main color and change up the accent color. Maybe use the green/teal for weddings but use a pink or blue or bright color for my kid work.
Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Nothing set in stone but I think the “carley photography” part will be written pretty normally (I tend to like either all lower case or all upper case) and the “j.c.” part will be the designed part. I would like to be able to use the “j.c.” part separately when I want to and to be able to use the “carley photography” part on it’s own when needed.
I would also love to have a graphic included that are not letters. Meaning an abstract flower or something so that I can incorporate that into blog backgrounds or accents on marketing materials.
Communication Strategy:
What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That I am a put together, professional photographer with an artistic edge.
Where will your new logo be used?
Top of Blog, part of the logo will be used to watermark photos that go online, biz cards, letterhead and marketing materials
What sets you apart from your competitors?
I think many of my fellow photographers have amazing shooting skills –many are better than me – and I have very good people skills. I think I am gifted at putting people at ease, bringing out their true personalities and helping them enjoy the experience.

My current website and logo here:
www.carleyphotography.com
www.carleyphotography.com/photoblog
What I think doesn't work about current logo:
Hard to use to watermark things.
Does not lend to creative marketing designs.
The J.C. part seems a little too childish to me.
Just not in the modern age.
Thanks!

Deanna:
Thank you for jumping in and taking a stab at my logo! Upon first glance, I like that the graphic is kind of dotting the "j."
However, I think the flower is too literal, if that makes sense. I guess I am looking for a graphic that is a little more funky rather than cute.
Anyway to mix it up a little and maybe try to put "jc" with a graphic inside a box?
I am not sure exactly how to do these reviews and I hope I don't come off too critical. I love that you all are out there willing to help!
Thanks again!

Here's one with an abstract flower graphic. Your initials are somewhat difficult to turn into an abstract flower image... Let me know what you think of this. :)

I think my wording was a little confusing about the j.c with a flower graphic. These are great designs but they all seem to say that my company name is "J.C. Carley Photography" when my name is actually "Carley Photography." So the name part probably needs to be together without the j.c. part. I was hoping to incorporate the j.c. as a side thing.
I did not really want to include an example of this idea as I fear it will bring us to just copy it but here is what I guess I mean. If you go to kseidlphoto dot com you will see that they use her initials in a funky way that look like a k and an s with a funky flower graphic that she then uses as her blog background.
I hope that was okay to put into this message. This is just an idea of what I like, not in any way to be replicated. Thanks!

So the "j.c" part with some sort of flower (or other thing) graphic will be on the side (or in the middle or on top) and the "carley photography" part will be where her name is.

Nutscreative: Thanks for chiming in! I am thinking these are a lot closer to my idea interms of having the Carley Photography part separate from the j.c. part. Not sure I love the teal part of the first one that makes things off centered. It does look cool but I am not sure it will always be functional with my marketing materials etc. But I do like having the jc in the middle.
The second one is pleasing but I am not in love with that particular flower and jc. I do think you "get me" so I would love to see a few more ideas. Thanks!!!

xpressions: Can you try it with Carley Photography instead of with the JC part? I think the graphic you have in the circle could be cool but maybe you could use a clearer "jc" and then put a bit of decor in there too (leaves, vines, flower whatever).
Thanks.

Thanks again everyone. I guess I will comment on each:
Paula 23: I think the jc part is too hard to figure out that it says jc. (At first glance I missed it) I guess I would like the jc part to be pretty obvious with just a little flourish of something with it like a flower or swirl or leaf or something that I could use as a blog background or as accents in my marketing materials. If you look at the example I posted, the k and s are clear but funky and it has a little flower type thing that can be used elsewhere.
Blink Graphix: Version one....kind of cool. I really like the idea. Simple yet has a little accent design I can use elsewhere. Can you tweak the jc part? Not sure how but it just isn't quite there for me. Can you also do a similar idea but with a different shape? Great start.
version 2: again I really like the idea. I like the circle with the jc going through it and kind of going outside the circle. Only I think the jc part is a little too frilly for me.
Thank you very much!!

I hope it is okay that I resurrect this! I just finished my battle with my first trimester and now I am back in possession of my body and can function properly.
I have figured out exactly what I want and I am hoping someone can make it look good on the computer. Please see the attached image. I just drew what I am looking for with the jc and the box around it with some sort of funky flower to "dot the j."
The image is terrible quality but I think you will be able to get the idea. I am ready to move on this asap and really appreciate your time! Thanks!!!! j.c.
PS. Just remember to pop in the carley photography part beside it or below it or whatever. Thanks!

For some reason, I am not getting emails letting me know there are new designs. So sorry for the delay!
I do really like Blink Graphix's ideas and just need to tweak them a little. So, if Blink can contact me, I would love to go with your idea but just need to make a few tweaks to make it perfect.
Thanks!

Thanks!
I like the way the carley photography is written in version 5.
I like the way the jc is written in versions 7 and 8 better than previous versions.
I like the flower completely in the "box" as seen in version 5.
From there, can we try to see if there is a way to make the "c" part of the "jc" flow into the border like many of the other designers designs. I am not sure we will be able to make that work with the script you used so feel free to tweak the script to see if it could work. The initials may have to move over to the corner to make it work better. (my idea behind this is that down the line I can animate the script as if I am writing it and after I "write" the j and the c I would just continue the writing around making the box border.)
I love how in version 5 i can choose to color in the box and have the other items in color and the flower in white. This adds versatility to the design as I use it on materials.
I think that is it. Thanks!!!

Hey there!
I did not get the revisions so I am glad I came on to check today. I must have something set up wrong in terms of getting notifications when posts are made.
Love the revisions! I think it looks great!
So where do we go from here? I like the whole logo and now I am just wondering in what form I will get them. I would love to be able to change the colors of the different elements depending on if I am using it for kids or weddings etc. I am figuring I can do that in photoshop but I wanted to make sure that would work.
Also, do you know what type of flower that is? It may be a made up one, but if it is a real one it would be fun to know what it is.
Thank you so much!!!!!!
