Design Outpost Creative Brief Worksheet

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo? "sweet people"- maybe with "Photography" underneath....I want the "wee" of sweet to be separated by being smaller or in sort of italics or I have thought about a circle bubble with the "wee" in it. You know those fridge magnets with the little bubble - so that the words or image sort of looks magnified/popped out a little - that was one thought... a few other ideas might be: "wee" in the middle of a circle - making it into a flower, or a lollipop, or like a combination of both...maybe the circle has tiny polka dots around the top or something... Obviously these are just me brainstorming so I am OPEN so far to ideas....Maybe even something as simple as a different color for the "wee people" so it pops out vs. "sweet people". So...Maybe sweet people on one line and photography under. It would be really nice if I could use some part of the logo without the words... So if there was a small icon/design that could be used as a watermark or with my name separately that would be great!

What type of product or service do you offer? children, family, baby, maternity photography ONLY NO WEDDINGS...

How long have you been in business? In this business, one year...

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity? i want to feel great when i slap this logo on all of my products and cards and marketing materials. Recognizable and memorable.

What are your long term goals? to be known as the BEST in my business in my local area and if it gets bigger, great!

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer? I don't really have a major deadline- just want a great logo!

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience: Because I was JSO this year... many were friends. Paying friends, but friends or knew me through other people.

Who would you like to add to your audience? My future audience is high-end clients... people who understand the value of what custom photography is and want to spend to bring in the best photographer and the best products. My prices will be on the higher-side of our local photographers. I need a logo to read chic, fun and clean... easy to read... just screams that I am THE ONE.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like? http://www.elysecardonphotography.com[/url]

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? Bright, rich colors... I tend to like Hot Fuschia Pink and greens, Or aquas and greens, OR mango orange and hot pink.... open to others similar...Someone mentioned to me when I told them about my idea "sweet people" that greens came to mind - like sweet pea... interesting...

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? That is where i am struggling- but I would like something that could stand alone- for icon- iphone app... favicon... watermark... that would all be sort of cool... Something simple though... I love all things 'anthropologie'... the store... what would be seen there?

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? Fresh, professional, Fun, Sweet... Simple but memorable and something you must own!

What is your tagline or slogan? "Reflect. Rejoice. Remember. You get the picture."

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience? That I am the freshest, brightest and most desirable photographer in the area! I am fun but professional. Modern but timeless.

Where will your new logo be used? Hopefully everywhere. On my website, blog, stickers, buscards, postcards...etc.

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos? Of my competitors, I am not blown away by anyone's logo or business... I feel like I stand apart in many ways.

List competitive URLs if possible: http://www.mossatthebeach.com, http://www.fotobyeva.com, http://www.amysandovalphotography.com,http://www.deannacaseyphotography.com, http://www.willettedesigns.com, http://www.marcusphotography.com, http://www.holmansstudio.com, http://www.lesliedumontphotography.com

What sets you apart from your competitors? I just looked at all of the those websites, briefly, and I know there are dozens more... I feel VERY different. My work is a niche. It is true-life, but fresh, bright, clean, modern, young and yet all the while NOT trendy... NOT posed... it is genuine and will always be current. My portraits focus on the subjects, and not so much about where we do the photos.. it is to incorporate the true personality in the image so they seem to live forever in that moment...

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company: Fresh, Fun, Timeless and Genuine.

OMG- so funny! Are you here?! cool! I do typically go bright in general in my life... Not primary colors typically that said... Love contrasting colors usually: Hot pinks/Lime greenish or like aquas/lime greens...mango ...?

Very cool. Love Kelly! I look forward to seeing your submission(s)... and colors are really undecided on my part.... I can't decide what I really want - maybe I will know when I see it... SO, it doesn't have to be contrasting... Could be same colorway etc...

Thanks again!

One from me.... Thanks, Deanna

Thank you Deanna for this...
In general it is not working for me... I feel the font is too hard to read and the design on the side is not as clean as I can imagine...

Thank you very much for being our first submission!

Sorry- I just noticed the question about Fresh Sugar- YES! I am jealous :) I love the clean, bright, fresh - and the icon works for her name. I don't have a name like that (yet) - So, don't want an obvious icon, i don't think...? BUT the truth is, I am open to suggestions at this point. I think the more I see, the more I will know?!

I want my font and design to be proud and read confident and happy too!

Hello! :)

davelyse

tini1- Thank you or your entry! I think that the font is too shy or quiet... (btw, my name can start with capital letters if you think it will look better- totally open on that) And, I think that the design is a little funky... not as clean and clear as I was daydreaming of... would love to see something more..

Artemii- at first glance I wasn't into this- but actually - the thought of my "e" swirling under a bigger "C" -abstract but maybe it brings to mind something sweet/fun- like a lollipop OR possibly flower- OR maybe it remains pretty much just abstract-ish...swirly...with trailing polka dots- lol.. something a little more fun?
The font on m name is not as clean in some way... and also same thing(I don't "need" the first letters in lower case, if that would make it more confident or something). Lastly - the colors need to be like hot pink and green or aqua and green - hot pink and mango(brighter orangey)... this sort of t brightness to match my photography style.
My work is very bright, fresh, fun, and clean... I want the font to be simple, elegant and fresh.
thoughts?

I was just trying to thnk of something even more simple but fun- what about just the "e" (lower case) with maybe something like a little star off the point or something like that? Just the "e" with somethig next to my full biz name?

HI GUYS~!thanks for your couple of entries... not there yet... but I have a new concept I am hoping to work on...
Please re-read the first Q&A stuff to find out the details...
BUT instead of my name- I am going to go for something totally new ....
Maybe more people will submit?

"sweet people" is the new name!! Maybe the "wee" can be smaller letters than the rest - or maybe separating the "wee" with period dots, or little stars, or something creative??? (Since i only shoot kids/family - I thought this was cute!) Now I need chic and an icon to go with - PLEASE HELP! :) Please refer to the Q and A from the beginning...

Hello artists!! THank you for your entries so far-I do appreciate the effort and this process...
I have been sitting here all morning struggling to find an idea or something that works for me so I can best explain why these don't so far - but I have come up slightly short... I really want to be able to direct this a little more, but at this point - I feel like I need something to jump out at me...

I am not sure that anything terribly obviously candy related works... seeing as this is photography of children, babies, family, pregnant moms...etc. The only thing I could see working there is if the "candy" was also the idea of something else- whatever else to do with my business...

One of my biggest reasons I thought this name was so cute - was subtly highlighting the "wee"... So - bringing my thoughts to small people- small sweet people... small sweet babies/children...etc... sweet peas...

Here are some direct thoughts if it helps:

brunocalvin: This is a very interesting idea- had not thought about a 'camera' look... I don't love this particular camera... font is okay....

Glyphica- the font is probably my most favorite... "wee" could be a different color perhaps or something to pop ?

In general, As mentioned above - not sure about a lollipop straight up- I am not sure if this would ever work or not- but what if it had the idea that it could almost grow into a flower which just so happened to almost look like a people figure?

xpressions: I typically like birds- but not sure to use it here- and this is just a little to crazy all around for me at this point... not clean/sweet/whimsical, to me. Too chunky and bumpy or something.

nutscreative: there is something about this i like- but I think it is just that it was creative and something I had not thought about myself... I am not a big tiara fan when thinking about my clean, fresh, modern portraiture... The e turned around is taking away from the highlighting the "wee" i think...

im3d: While you tried to highlight the "wee" (thanks!), I think that the candy is too confusing for my photog clients -unless the candy was also something else- kind of like what I was saying about the lollipop.

Ugh-I hope this helps some new creativity... if you haven't already - click on my website- the music, the overall look might help ?

im3d: I like this idea- not crazy about the font or the colors all around...

Deanna- This is very sweet :) Something about it is adorable to me... I like photography in the pea pod better I think. Could the kids be a little more vintage and sketchy - like the idea of them but not so 'perfect' maybe? Also think too many colors- maybe greens and a hot pink possibly to try? can we make the "wee" the alternate color... Really has some possibilities here...

davelyse
03-26-2010, 11:40 AM
nutscreative- This is simple and i like it. Can you change the pink color to something else more hot... And I don't know if there is anything you can think of to add just a little something to it -Even if continuing with dots/circle/bubble theme?

nutscreative:
This is sort of workin...If you don't mind :) Could we try a couple of things to shake this up a little:
The pink-I would love it less red, more raspberry/hot pink (i think).
Could the S...t pe.ple be a little more on a straight line, and let the wee and the dotted line and the "o" sort of do the curvy thing?
Could the "S" be a little more swirly?
And I might like to see the "photography" without the background and tape... just plain OR if you have another thought...

In general right now, my husband thinks it is very hard to read in general. I think that is probably why I was going for the cleaner font or drawn to the sort of font in snickerdoodle design (which I know is her design - but just for idea)

hmm. i don't know. thanks.

nutscreative: Thank you! I prefer V04 font more than the 05. Can you please up the red in this pink just a touch (i think that is what I mean :) somewhere in btwn the two). Also, can I see what it might look like if the "wee" bubbles were clear... so just an outline of the circles...

tini: at first i thought this was really onto something... the more we are studying it... i am not so sure... the only things that came to mind to possibly to try might be to eliminate the blue colors... just stick to maybe two greens and a pink. And then if the whole circle idea would be less bumpy - cleaner and maybe thinner for all of it... sweeter expression on child maybe... it def has possibilities- i am having trouble figuring out what might could be altered to make it work for us... sorry.

OK- thanks guys!

Nutscreative - I think this is it ...with some tweaks ...
The color is still not registering as right to me- to give you an idea- The pink color in #22 (glyphica) is much more where I think it needs to be... rich.
I don't think the outline works, but thank you so much for showing me... Instead, could we see the "wee" in white against that darker green and also could we see it in the (new) pink against that green, or possibly the lighter green bubble ( possibly with an outline in darker, if you think the lighter gets washed out?) If anything else comes to mind while you are showing me, I will be happy to check it out... and then hopefully we are done!

May I say- thank you to everyone who chose to submit... You are all wonderfully creative and I appreciate your work.

nutsc: the more i examine this - the more i think the green is funky... too kelly green maybe need more apple greens? And not sure if you got the last post - but can you show me the "wee" font in the version 5 and pop that into Version 4. So in other words, we think besides a slightly different green choice, that the wee is nice and easy to read in v5 b/c it is smaller and simpler inside the bubble.

You know, I really can't decide if I am sooo loving this font in general. May I ask you to check out this photographer's logo http://www.freshsugar.ca and see how simple, sweet and clean it is... perhaps there is a way that we can get something similar and less curvy, curly and see if that is what the difference is... Back to the hard to read thing... and the simple, modern thing... Love the bubbles... just want a little cleaner maybe with the rest...? Hope this is ok.

Also, the "photography" in the older versions seems to be greyish/black and we like the way that subtly pops over the light green of the recent version... Or if it were the pink color maybe- just needs to stand it slightly.

much closer!!!! IS the "S" and "t" the same font as people? There is something I am not jumping up and down about regarding the "s" especially... Is it lower case? maybe if it were... (is this in a font, btw, that I could use or is it a designed one or what? just curious...)

We like the "wee" in version b.

The only other thing is that maybe (we are undecided) if there is too much green on sweet. Could we possibly see the "wee" in the pink, and then instead the "s" and "t" in pink... OR anything else you think...
Which do you like better - the pink photography or the other? not sure over here.
Thank you - thank you - thank you!

Hi, please see revised attached. for version 10, "S" is in upper case, "t" in lower case. in this version 11, i change the font of "t"...see if it looks better. I think "photography" in gray looks better.:)

davelyse

loving the "t" - thanks!
one more option i think we had mentioned to try is just the "s" and "t" in the pink... can i also see the "s" in a lower case-sort of fatter like the rest of the font i think.

Really close...

You rock!

davelyse
04-01-2010, 12:38 PM
oh gosh - now so many choices with the color - wow! Liking a few of them...
"s" maybe can be just a little more completed on both ends... possibly slightly fatter like the people letters seem to be.

Do you have a favorite colorwise? I sort of like the alternating one- but don't want to lose the wee idea...

davelyse
04-01-2010, 03:41 PM
I don't know if we have seen Version10b with just the "s" and "t" in pink as the change...
And one last thought on these options is what about all Sweet in Pink and all People in green... maybe with the "o" dot in people as the pink as the bubbles alternate to it... I guess that is the opposite colors of v10b...
With whatever new "s" you can come up with...

I don't know if it is possible to put the ones we are talking about all on one post or two, so I can see them together a little more... scrolling all over is annoying but I can totally do it of course.... Would love to wrap this up asap.... thank you so much!!

okay - these look like good options at a glance... the "s" needs something- I think it gets lost because the circle next to it is almost larger than it... Maybe play with some "s" options and things are almost done... just need to pick.

04-05-2010, 10:40 AM

i think i am leaning towards a (v14). I want to show my husband to help me make the final call first. Question: you said something about the color being able to be altered... will I have that option in PS when I get the files? Also I will want to use this as a watermark image washed out white probably - do you need to do something so I can do that - or will I be able to make changes? Not sure, obviously how that all works... Oh, and in order to match the exact colors to my website and such do you know what the color number/letters are on the color wheel -ie.#ffffff

nutscreative
04-05-2010, 01:10 PM
The colour will not be exactly the same for print item because printing is in CMYK and web is RGB colour mode. Pantone code is for printing guide, not web use.

Pantone206 (pink)=#E40E62
Pantone 376 (green)=#8CC63F
Pantone Cool Gray 10=#807F83

For the logo, i created the logo in Adobe Illustrator, if you have that you can edit the colour without problem, for photoshop, since this a pixel base software, you can fill the colour by selecting the area, but the edge might not be good looking depends on what tool you use for making that selection.

For the watermark, i can provide you a white logo in psd format, so you can adjust the transparency to the level of white you like and apply on photos.:)

davelyse
04-05-2010, 02:27 PM
OKAY!! So version 14 letter "a" is the winner :) it just seems to work nicely and better than the others - so thank you for your patience on that.
I don't have illustrator at this time- just cs4. I was just curious about that.
Can the size vary once I get it?
Anyway... I really appreciate everything.. what do I need to do next?

nutscreative
04-05-2010, 02:59 PM
