Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
J'Lynn Mak

What type of product or service do you offer?
Lifestyle photography-weddings, seniors, children & families.

How long have you been in business?
1yr

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
A brand that is recognizable to my clients and represents me and my business. Organic/natural, unrehearsed with a vintage feel.

What are your long term goals?
I definitely would love to do more weddings, and be a specific type of photographer that people search out for to have that fresh lifestyle look.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
5-3-10 (flexible)
Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
Currently I would say families & seniors....but moving my biz into weddings also.
Who would you like to add to your audience?
Brides (and families & seniors) who want a more high end experience from start to finish, and knows the importance of capturing life's moments that go by so quickly
.
Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
Something that imparts what I offer as a photographer. A vintage, natural yet stylish design. I love everything vintage like an old stamp or a vintage key. Natural.
I attached a photo of some logo's I like.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
This is the hard part for me. I love the whole pottery barn look of tans/browns & black. However I would love a touch of color. I have thought of maybe the current blueish greens I am using on my site...or maybe a eggplant? Open to ideas. I really don't care for bright colors. I like the more earth/natural tones.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo? I have always loved the connection of initials used in logos however I am not stuck on that idea! My biz name is actually my nick name, JLM are my initials though. I have attached some images of what I really like.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business? Natural...something old something new.

What is your tagline or slogan?

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
Just life. A very professional experience with a bit of a eclectic mix of old, new, but most of all REAL.

Where will your new logo be used? All over! My blogsite, FB and in all my marketing.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Natural, Clean, Old, New, timeless....Life!

I included some of the designs I like. When I look at these the main thing I see is all the designs is that vintage timeless look. Feminine yet strong. Also to see my work my website is jlynnmak.com (http://jlynnmak.com)

Thank you Glyphica!
I don't actually use photography on any of my marketing/logo. Visually I know this makes it look plain but hoping you guys can remedy that somehow.
I like this font but I really think I would like a more flowing font that maybe all connecting like in sample 9 & 14. I think the only way I would like to see a more block font like you have shown would be if somehow my initials JLM were used in the design like on 6, 12 or 13. Did that make sense?

Thank you so much!!!

WOW thank you all!!

xpressions- I am not feeling a connection on the inner circle to the outer. I like the m on the JLM but not sure if I like the JLM it just kinda feels out of place. I do like the outer circle though that is very pretty. THANK YOU!

Glyphica-
For some reason the border feels more 1950's to me than the vintage look I am looking for. I do like the delicate edges. Thank you!

Nutscreative-
like I mentioned above I feel like this shape border is more 1950's retro looking than the vintage look I was hoping for. I am not loving the JLM but I do love the delicate edging. Very pretty! Thank you

As far as color goes I would really like to see more of the earth tones with black, and maybe a touch of eggplant like in sample 3 & 9. If I was definitely going to have a border I like the shape of 3, 10 & 14. I would love to see some letters like on 12&13 that incorporated the lacy design of sample 4 somehow with the JLM. Also I do love the font miama. I am sorry if I just gave way too much info!! Not sure if I am doing this correctly:blush: I really want something different that will distinguish my brand from the rest. Thank you all so much!!

xpressions: Thank you so much for your design, and for adding in that font. It is very nice. I am not loving the border still. This just feels a bit busy.

nutscreative: Thank you for all your designs!! Version 2 just feels to modern for my business. Version 3 I am just not loving the spirograph look. Version 4 I feel like is getting closer to what I want but still not there. I also don't care for the J in ver2&3. Thank you so much for your time in this!!!

Like I said before I do like the shapes of 3 & 10 if the design will be in a border. I am just really hoping to find something that conveys my business. Natural, simple, organic, timeless with a bit of vintage mixed in..... Yet still conveying a high end feel. Also on the colors. As I said before I really think staying with the earth tones (cream, taupe, browns) and black with maybe just a touch of color added in is what I am thinking. I also would still love to see something like in sample 6 or 13 where the initials are connected in the design....or even 15? Thank you all so much!!!! :)

I thank you all for your designs! I am having a hard time relaying what I am hoping for so I thought I would explain a bit more of what I am thinking will work. Thanks for your patience!!! :)
On these logo's I love the simplicity yet elegant feel to them. I would love to see the JLM somehow stylized like in sample 2 and 3. With J'LYNN MAK below like the font on sample 3. I like a lot of the borders you have shown, but I like the look of the borders on sample 4 & 5. To me the border in 4 has that feel of being almost antiqued….if that makes sense. Also like I mentioned above I am not totally sold on having a border. So that is not a MUST! I hope this explains a bit more what I am hoping for, and again I really appreciate all your ideas!

Thank you NHR this is a very beautiful design. I like that the design has 4 points as I have 4 children so that is kinda cool:), however I don't like how sharp the bottom of the design feels. Almost too pointy? I would love to see this design with the font used in the sample three I provided above, and also in the same scale. So that the J'LYNN MAK is longer than the JLM. I hope that made sense. Is that possible? Colors I am still unsure of. I like the blue you have used, but I have been thinking of going with a mixture of black, tans/taupes(pantone warm gray 6-9 C?), eggplant(pantone 8100 C) and white?? Again thank you for your design.

NHR- Thank you! I am still not loving the scale of it though, and now seeing the smaller design you did I think your original was better. Sorry :) Also the line that is connecting the J to the design looks different less flowing if that makes sense. If possible I would love to see version three with more swirls that actually like fade behind J'LYNN MAK like on the sample 1 I posted of the wine label. I do like the font on version 4 better, but still the scale feels off some how? THANK YOU!

Glyphica- Thank you so much for coming back!! On version 3 is there another more handwritten font that could be used for the JLM? Version 4 is beautiful but feels a bit too plain for me, and 5 I don't think I care for the JLM on the side. :( I do love your work though.

Thank you Nutscreative! I do not care for the font used on the JLM in vs6. I do like the thought behind it though of almost wrapping my name in my initials. Nice! On vs7 the middle one is nice although I don't use photography in my name so without it it just looks sort of plain. :( Thank you again!

NHR
I have been playing with your design and incorporating some of the things I like. I find that on using the JLM from vs3 and the J'lynn mak from vs4 look the best to me. I added in the swirls behind J'Lynn Mak but connected to the JLM like on sample 1 of what I showed, and then put it all in the border like sample 4 only done in a oval. I really like it, and feel like it gives off that vintage feel I have been searching for. Is there anyway you could do something like this?:D

Thank you nutscreative! I am not loving that JLM wish it was more soft like the Miama font. I wish that when the swirls left the M they just kinda faded into the swirls. Does that make sense? So it sorta fades into background. Hope I am explaining that correctly? I also prefer the J'Lynn Mak to be in the font glyphica has shown. I really want the logo to have that vintage feel while still being simple/high end looking. Thank you again!

Hi Platre thank you for joining in! Yes you are right I only use J'Lynn Mak in my branding......No photography. Your design was beautiful but a bit too formal for my company. It just felt it was a bit too busy for my style.
I am hoping for something that somehow incorporates my initials and my name in a design that reflects my work. Organic, natural, lifestyle with a touch of vintage. Nothing too heavy.

Platre-
Thank you so much for adding some more! I like the feel behind these much better than the last one. I really wish it felt like the JLM connected more....like between the J & L they just don't feel connected. On vs1&2 I don't care for how the JLM covers part of the J'Lynn mak. I think vs3 is the best, but not crazy about J'Lynn Mak upside down. Thank you so much for your time & designs!!!!

I think NHR in VS3 got the closest to what I would like to see. I really loved the use of my initials in a design. After looking over all your designs that is what I continue to come back to but feel it is just not quite there. I would love to the JLM scrolled into a design somehow. Or #2 on my second set of samples. I understand connecting 3 initials is not as easy as two but would love to see some more examples of this. The only other idea I have had is if my initials were used in a more block font in some kind of mark? With my full name in scroll below.

Thank you all so much for your work and ideas!!! :)

One other thing I wanted to add is I am much more drawn to the delicate styles rather than anything too heavy. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again!

Nothing too heavy, more delicate. This is what I posted above on what I am thinking as far as design.

Not sure which would look better...the JLM has an almost western feel that I am not sure works. I also do not use photography in my logo. :) I really like how on the swirls it looks almost faded...love that!!

Hi Platre,
I am just not feeling this design. I guess the thing I don't care for is the swirls are not connected, and just don't seem to flow. I just feel like it is too much. Thank you so much, and I am sorry!!! :( On your vs 3 is there any way I could see that with the design in the background faded out a bit more, with the JLM being more connected. As in the letters attached, is that possible? Thank you!

I guess that is the part I don't understand....when you say revisions are you referring to just color/font? I am pretty sure that it is actually one of your designs that I want to go with, but the shapes are still just not right. Is that considered revisions? :D Sorry I just want to be sure. Thanks again!

You can work on color, font, and the design itself until you arrive at one you want to finalize.

Hi NHR,

I like the scale of the JLM when lined up with the J'Lynn Mak on vs. 6 but the swirl design behind is still not quite working. It is just a bit busy. I do like the first more faded much better, but still not quite right. Also I like the little flower on vs 3 better. It looks like it is different?

I would really like the design to incorporate one of the below styles. I am unsure which would look better....more like sample five with some very light swirls behind and around. Or more like sample 6 where the swirls would come off of the end of the M possibly? I think the thing that is not working on your vs. six that differs from my sample 5 is the design on 5 is almost more between (JLM & J'Lynn Mak). Maybe that is why there's does not look as busy? Plus I would like to see it actually come off the end of the M.

The other thing is the apostrophe. Is there any way to get this to look more like the one glyphica used in vs.3. As far as colors I am going to go with the taupe's, black with a touch of blue. Still trying to find a good blue....maybe somewhere between a green and blue...not sure, but nothing too bright.

Thank you NHR, and please let me know if there is something I can explain more. I am very excited about your design!! :)

J'Lynn Mak
05-12-2010, 09:24 AM
Just thought I would add a few of the colors I like to give you an idea of what I was thinking to go with the black & taupe's.
panatone 544 c
panatone 7457 c
panatone 5497 c
Hopefully that helps.

One other thing is if you do not think the swirls are going to work with your design I also would be fine going with just a border. Not sure if this is something you could do? I listed quite a few (emily steffen/SW) in the samples I gave on page two. Thank you for everything!!

I will work on variations for the rest of requested design.

Hi NHR,

Sorry about your computer :(

Ok so this scale looks great, and I much prefer the apostrophe here. Thank you. I am assuming we are not talking about color just design?
Well this all looks good the only thing I am still not sold on is the way the line coming off the flower matches the M. But again I am assuming that does not matter right now?

So excited!! Thanks again NHR!!! :)

Hello again :)

To be honest, I am little confused what is your color choice, but this can arrange later. Please, tell me what you think about design. I did try all, these are working solutions:

NHR Thank you so much for all your designs. I hope you don't mind I took a few days to look them over and try to decide. I really loved (A) but when it comes down to it I just kept feeling like it took away from your design.....like it was too much. I thank you for showing it to me that way though!!

I am still wishing something could be done different with the tail that comes off the flower, or if not then gone completely. Also would it be possible to see the design in a border that is pretty simple like below? After thinking on it for a few days I really think keeping it more simple is what will look best with this design. Thank you so much!! Hope your computer is no longer giving you troubles :) Thanks again for your patience in trying different things, and all you have done!!!

Hi again. My computer is better, thank you :)

How about this one. I did try to keep it simple:

I have one suggestion for you: Your logo is defined i version 7.0
Everything else you can change, time by time: put in if frame or include/exclude some swirls, backgrounds...
Just my thoughts :)
