Files uploading question from a newbie! :
How exactly is a designer expected to deliver the original files to the contest holder in formats like .ai, .psd, etc.. which may be quite big in file size? Can he upload them to DO the same way he uploads the rough drawings? If yes, what is the maximum file size allowed?

Hi
Do you mean when you have won a contest? If so you can zip the files (winzip (http://www.winzip.com/)) and either upload them to your web site/server in you have one or send them an email with the attachment.
Let me know if you are still unsure

To add it wouldn't be wise to upload the original files to DO and provide a link as this is a public forum and you don't want other ppl being able to download them.

You just save it as a jpg and upload that.

If you have designed it in photoshop just choose "save as" from the menu and choose .jpg or am I not understanding you correctly?
I realize you generally design for print material, designers is there anything he needs to know regarding designing for these contests? I do not use Photoshop. He's one of our new illustrators.

I use many graphic software like photoshop, Flash, Illustrator...But for print images, I send TIFF version of the original image which usually will be in PSD format. Right now I'm about to submit my entry to the contest. It is a rough draft in JPEG. The original file is in .fla format, which can be converted to .ai, .psd, .eps etc..

Are you wanting to know about uploading when the contest is over and you are the winning designer? or when you submitting a design in the contest?

Yes thats fine submit a jpg for the contest and if you win then send along to the contest holder the source file but include a file they are able to open also wise to include a format for the web.

Yes, that is correct. Upload a 72dpi jpg. To enter a contest you just upload the entry to your reply to their contest thread. Do not choose "preview reply" or it will remove the attachment. Also make sure it's not much wider than 500 px or it will stretch the screen horizontally.
Looking forward to seeing your work :)

If created in flash and converted to .ai/eps/psd/pdf will all the layers still be editable choclate?

Yes!
I use Flash all the time for designing logos, illustrations and then import into illustrator for the colouring. :)
To add Flash will not export to psd or pdf but if you do the above and then from illustrator/freehand there on.

Thanks for all the details. Just what I was looking for! :) That's correct, I was asking about the after-contest situation when I have to send source file to the contest holder, being the winner of the contest.
design-market, as regards preservation of layers, yes indeed layers retain themselves and I use Flash exactly like 2square does, using Illustrator as an intermediary between Flash and Photoshop.
I have tried CorelDraw but I believe nothing comes close to Flash when it comes to illustrations and cartoons drawing! ;)
