(Admin code added by Palmer - H8528343)

This contest can (and hopefully will ;) ) have multiple winners. As the title said, it's for avatars. The avatars are going to be generic ones for my site www.groundtradesxchange.com (BTW, rabbitdog has been working away on that site - looks pretty good, eh?), and will be used by members once they reach a certain number of posts.

You can look to the site for ideas, but I want things to be pretty open. Here are some of the specifics:

Size 75 x 75 pixels, 7K max file size. Smaller is better.

No animation

Use any colors you want - don't be constrained by the color theme of the site.

Mix it up - I don't want 5 different variations on a leaf. Some of these folks work with brick pavers, some with water features (waterfalls, ponds), some with lights, some with wood. Some hydroseed, some lay sod, and of course, some plant plants, some mow lawns. see www.stonehengebpl.com to get an idea of the stuff these people work with. One related to the site logo would be nice, too.

The Prize - $5 per avatar Not a ton, I know. But I'm not expecting you to slave away at each one, either. Make them abstract, literal, simple, detailed, whatever. The way this will work is, with each avatar I like, I'll post that you won for that design. Once the contest is over, everyone that won will get their winning numbers tallied, and awarded the $$ from there. I'm not sure how many I want, but I know it's a least 10. Enter as many times as you'd like.

Contest deadline: One week from this moment. Sooner if I get a ton of good ones.

Any questions, post 'em here. Good luck!

Jeff

John - save that as a .gif, change the background to one of the background colors of the site and you have a winner! I'll take that .gif and save the bkgrnd color as transparent for this logo.

We have 1 winner! Who's next?

John, the second flower isn't much dif't than the first. The gtx logo one, not wild about either. Sorry. Please submit more.

Ubergerl - I like the second and third ones - two winners! And for the first avatar, can you change the text, either to delete it completely, or make it stand out more? Do that and you'll have winner #3.

Lookin' great! Anyone else?

Jeff I need you to keep track of who I pay and how much they get ok?

imageconstrux

No problem Palmer. I'm keeping track of all that on my end. I'll post a PM with the final scorecard, and square things away then.

And to the Designers: Feel free to steal anything from my site (http://www.stonehengebpl.com), especially the pics. If you need a larger version of any of the pics so you can manipulate or contort a small piece of it, let me know. I have larger versions of just about everything there on my HD and can email it or stick it here.

UGG - the first one lightened up is a winner! The next one looks OK, the font and stripe layout doesn't grab me.

Here are some snippets of other work we've done - if you need bigger pics, etc, just let me know.

Here's one I did, if that helps stir the creative juices. I just cropped it and applied a texture effect. I'm not looking for you to slave over these things, just get a quickie idea, stick some things together in Photoshop or whatever, and (to quote a famous chef) >Bam!<. Avatar city.

Heres a few that I did, I went for a more abstract perspective.

Would you like some more in the same sort of style, or would you like me to try something different?

imageconstrux

The people visitng this site will have varied opinions, varied tastes. I love what you've got here so far, but I'd like the broadest mix of avatars I can have.

So if you could, please see if you can create some in a different vein, a different look.

Just my 2 cents but it seems like there needs to be some more "manly" avatars :D I can't imagine my brother the landscaper using one with a flower.

imageconstrux
02-14-2003, 10:34 AM
I'm with you Palmer!

j-design, I'll give you one more win for the tulips, but let's see some manly stuff. Let's see some scuffed knuckles, a snowplow (plowing snow is the primary biz of landscapers in winter), beat up work boots, other large equipment like dozers, excavators, skid steers.

Or something with money/currency (US), a calculator, a tape measure, a pickup truck, a shovel, a wheelbarrow........

Does that help?

BTW, the one below is a tub saw used to cut brick.

Palmer - be sure to tell your brother the landscaper about our site!

j-design - the ones with check marks are winners!

I figured out the snowplow one, but it was a little hard to tell - maybe if you can find a pic of one outside, pushing snow.

The second one down on the left - I couldn't figure out what it was - to much filtering, maybe.

Congrats - you're piling up quite a few wins! :D

Get a good snowplow avatar, and maybe one or two more, and I think we'll wrap this contest up.

Heres a money one,

imageconstrux
02-15-2003, 10:07 AM
UGG - I like your plow, and the money - 2 wins.

j-design, I can tell that first one is an unfiltered version of the one I coudln't figure out before. I can make out the hand, but can't tell what it's doing. I like the big tire at the bottom. That one's a winner.

And with that, I think we'll bring this contest to a close. Lots of great avatars, thanks to everyone who participated.

Later this weekend I'll post the final tallies.

Thanks!

Jeff

Ok designers -

Here's the final tally:

John - 1 winning avatar $5 US

Ubergerlgeek - 5 winning avatars $25 US

j-design - 12 winning avatars (wow) $60 US

For a total of $90 in winnings for avatars!

Palmer, I'll get all this squared away, so you can give these great designers their winnings!

Hey j-design - what happened to all the pics?

I can still see them, but if you cant you can get them here. (http://members.lycos.co.uk/secsummit03/avatars.htm)

Or if you want I could send them to you.

j-design, your ISP must've been down. They're back now. Maybe you're on VenturesOnline? They were having problems yesterday (that's where my site is). Oh - and quit keeping me in suspense - what IS that one avatar I couldn't figure out?

Palmer, things are all squared away on my end - please give these fine folks their money. :santa:

It was a close-up of a man planing a piece of wood. :P
