Storbase

DEADLINE: We'd like something ASAP as we are currently out of business cards with our old logo :) But we're flexible.
Storbase provides infomation technology related products and services, primarily in the network security arena. However, we would prefer to keep things generic so that we are not pigeonholed. The information technology market is very dynamic and we would like to remain flexible and adaptive to any new markets.
Our preference would be simple, clean and corporate yet maybe a little "techie". No 3d balls or swooshes please...a bit overdone in our market.
We have an existing web site which may help you generate some ideas. Including our existing logo:
http://www.storbase.com
Please remember though that we don't want to be pigeonholed into a security arena. So don't put any padlocks or whatever into the logo ;)
This logo will be used on the web site, on business cards, promotional materials, etc.
We will certainly be interested in working with winning artist on an ongoing basis. We are interested in business cards, a new web site template, promotional materials, and perhaps even advertising.
I apologize that we aren't giving you any more ideas! But we will monitor this thread and provide as much feedback as possible!
Thanks!
Ben

Ok,
I just showed the early designs to our staff.
I want to say THANKS!
Everyone is excited, even though you guys are just getting started :D
We liked most of the designs. A few comments on colors though. One of my co-workers felt like some of the colors were too pastel. Perhaps because we're viewing them on an LCD panel that seems to be "brighter".
In general we liked the designs from Disturb Reality and Ruairi.
Its funny that my boss saw the S from Ruairi as an E ;) I had to explain to him that was really a big S for "Storbase".
For colors my boss seems to prefer the darker blues, black, and perhaps a dark blue violet.
Great work so far guys,
Ben Fitts

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for such a quick response.
Initially I'd say Storbase is not prominent enough in the logo. The S seems to overpower the "storbase".
Feel free to play around with other colors as well to highlight the blues... I think I can get my boss to agree that another color may be neccessary :)

how is this idea? the shape forms a modern 'S' shape...

I'll rework the logo soon... any feedback on the logo itself rather than the correctness of the spelling?

A few comments.
I really appreciate all of your hard work! Thanks so much guys!
Zing - As I mentioned earlier my boss prefers darker colors, even darker shades of blue.
I think Storbase isn't two seperate things. It isn't like "Store" or even like "Storage". It's sort of one feeling and identity. So seperating the word by seperate color schemes isn't going the right direction. I'd say keep the word one color, or even do a fade or whatever you want to do but don't break it into two seperate words.
I also wasn't sure about the graphic part of your logo. I wasn't sure what it was supposed to represent?
Gilles - We liked your logo. One comment was the "S". One of my coworkers didn't think it matched the rest of the text. Can you modify the graphical "s" to have a little bit more of the same feel?
Another question was how would that fit on a business card. Would the graphical "s" be seperated out... I guess thats a whole different topic that we don't need to get into :) But we will be wanting to get business cards and other work done using these logos.
Thanks again guys!

Thanks guys. I really appreciate all your work. I'm sure that in the next day or two we'll start to get a feel for this and some of you will develop some great "second drafts".
Comment to Stephen, and others,
Your graphical elements are too detached from Storbase. It is basically just some random graphical element.
If you look at Jon from Disturb Reality.. his graphical element was a way to highlight and bring attention to the company name.
In some of the other designs I think their graphical elements compete with the name because they are overpowering. The graphical element sort of dwarfs the name.
The thing we liked most about Gilles and Ruairi is that their graphical elements were the "s" in Storbase. So that sort of followed a a"theme" where some of the other graphical elements just seemed arbitrary.
Thanks!

PS. You don't have to all use the "S" as your graphical elements! Just try to make it all a unified piece.

Can we see some versions of your logo where you remove the web site address from underneath Storbase? And can we get you to try to put a version of the text over the graphical "s"? I dunno if it will "wash" out too much. I dunno if the graphical S will stand out enough with the Storbase over it? But we'd like to see what you can do!
Thanks!

Hello Ben :)
Here are some changes to your logo. First, a solution with the "S". I kept the original S inside the circle and placed another to complete the word Storbase. I did that thinking that sometimes you will use for something just the circle with the S inside..Then I replaced the original S and placed your logo on a business card and website :) Please let me know what else I can do for you.
Best regards,
Gilles.

Hi guys.
I really appreciate everyone's hard work so far.
We still like the logo from Ruairi the best.
I showed Gilles work to my boss. He didn't like it. I think it was too progressive for him. I don't think he liked the chrome effect.
Think in terms of big corporate logos. Thats the kind of thing my boss likes. It can be sort of progressive but not too much.
Thanks guys!

Hi everyone. Keep up the good work! We still prefer the way Ruairi is going with his designs.
Ruairi
We like design #2 (without the url) and #3.
Can you try a couple different shades of blue?
And maybe try another font or two? Something about that thickness is fine, nothing too "blocky". But maybe some fonts that are a little more stylish?
We're not sure if we want to go with the plain or something fancier, we'd just like to compare them.
Thanks!

Great work guys!
Gilles,
I like your logo from 5:19pm. It isn't numbered so I don't know how to tell you which one we like :) The only problem is the font... We weren't real confident of that font.
Ruairi,
Great work.
We liked the color from #2-5. Actually we really like 2-5 although I have one concern. The font if you look closely looks weird. Like it's been stretched or in didn't dither well or something. If you look the A in Storbase looks wider than the other letters. Can you take a look at that? Or try the font from the original version which is #3 at the top of page 3.
Thanks guys!
We're getting close!

We have a winner!
We want to thank everyone for your entries. We had lots of great entries. We had a lot of debate over whose logo was best.
We decided on Ruari!
Version #3!
Thanks again everyone!
Ruari I'll be in contact via email to get a few final modifications done (color, etc.)
Thanks!
