camcorder recommendations

Okay - everyone here is artistic, good with PCs and software, etc... so, I thought this might not be a far stretch to ask people for camcorder recommendations.

Prefer to pay under 1,000 USD, mini-dv but prefer dv-r/dv-rw, really want one with superb audio. Night filming isn't critical. I've researched until I'm totally confused! :rip: I currently have an old Panasonic PV-L758 which is a mini-cassette. I think my wife and I bought it in the VERY early 90s. It's audio always sounded like the subject was under water. :tdown:

Appreciate any advice, recommendations, suggestions, etc. :D

I don't have a digital camcorder yet myself, but I've been eyeing up the Canon Elura 50 (http://www.canondv.com/elura50/elura50_flash.html). My brother bought one of those a few months back and loves it. And my husband and I just bought one of them for my other brother as a graduation gift and he loves it. The waulity and usability both seem really good on it from my very limited experience and hearing what they've both told me. It's also pretty reasonably priced (it was priced under $600 at amazon.com).

My regular digital camera is a Canon and I couldn't be more pleased with it. So, I'm very sold on the Canon brand anyway. As far as audio quality fo the Canon Elura 50 goes, my brother (that I recently bought it for) graduated from music production school and he's had no complaints about the sound quality. So I guess that says something.

A good idea is to check out consumer reports or a magazine that focuses on electronic equipment and see what their artcles say on what is best. I was told by a camcorder repairman that the brand he sees the less of is JVC. That's what we own and we haven't ever had any problems with it.
