View Full Version : Enthropia.com Logo - Prize: $75

Hola all (Admin code added by Palmer - T9702104)
I am creating a business site, and need a 'spiffy' logo to go with it.
The design [non spliced]: www.enthropia.com/design.gif (http://www.enthropia.com/design.gif)
Basically, I will be replacing where it currently says 'enthropia'. Plus, I would like it if the 'e' could be used as some sort of logo on business cards
I have no 'idea' of what I want ... I am hoping the creativity flows from you guys - I just need the colors to match with the design :)
The logo should be vector based [for resizing], unique and be identifiable as a singular brand. I would like it to be easily modifiable into any type of 'format' use - avatar, ads, print media, letterheads, etc [sort of like how GeekScripts was done].
The 'slicker' the better :)
The prize is $75 and I will let it run until February 28, giving about 2 weeks for the entries. I will also require all files and associated fonts so I can modify it a bit later if needed.
[bonus points to anyone who can come up with a good slogan! ;)]
Good luck everyone - I will be visiting often to look over these entries.

Can you give us an idea of what your website is all about, who it should appeal to, etc.?

Hey! Looks like something out of the mind of "geiger" from over at SitePoint. :D I'll see what I can come up with. :)
I sure he's gland he finally sold it, great design though.
AhmedF
02-13-2003, 04:40 PM
Yeah it is geig's .. fell in love with it right when I saw it :D
Enthropia.com is my 'overall business website'
I own quite a few sites .. ranging from programming to gaming to webmastering etc. Enthropia.com is my registered business in Canada, and thus the 'main' company site.
Hope that clears it up.

Alrighty, here's my entry. I made the 'e' stand out because you mentioned that you'd like it to be used as a branding-type logo on business cards, etc. I hope you like it! :)

And the submissions begin! :)
Adam: The overallish theme looks good, but some things seem a bit off. I like that you sort of isolated the e, but it .. just doesnt seem to work ;). The orange dot looks perfect for business cards and letter heads ... how would it look with actual black text on the blue backrground? Also, dont forget the .com part!
ElKoothcho: I like the way that you have made a brandable 'e'. What I would like it is if the e itself was part of 'Enthropia.com'
Keep them coming guys :D
i will see what i can come up with over the weekend...

a little different style here...What do you think?
AhmedF
02-15-2003, 01:09 PM
Heh ... not what im looking for ;)
Im more into 'blockish' lettering ... plus I need to be able to make it able to be placed on a letterhead etc .. I think that would look sorta weird.
And dont forget the '.com'

Hows this?
AhmedF

A bit too simple.
I would like the 'e' part of the text, and then be able to remove it as the logo.
If that makes sense :)

AhmedF
02-15-2003, 10:46 PM
Ok.
Adam seems to be getting it. Simple, nice, and elegant. I think Im just a bit more partial to that :)
Adam: It is very nice overall, just seems to be 'missing' something. Some sort of little 'pizzaz' heh
Crimson: I like the way the e sigma one looks. Maybe try it in blacker, and have the fonts more vertical? The second one seems too simple :)
uber: I dont think bevelling is working. So bevel is a no no.
Elkootcho: Looks good overall, but I Dont get the corp/professional appearance .. seems more oriented for clothing or a target towards the younger audience.

Okay i'll try your suggestions later tonight. small question: what do you mean by vertical? Do you want the logo itself to be vertical with the 'e' at the top then the 'n' and so on?

Whoops .. sorry I took so long to reply .. my internet was *busted* :(
El Koothcho: The 'e' isnt really blending with the sphere imo. Maybe some changes?
crimson: Hehe .. by vertical, I meant stretch them more vertically so they fill up a bit
Meldy: That looks funky :). Two things again ... maybe a black outline instead? And again .. the 'e'... looks sorta weird.
To All: Im sorry if I am being such a stickler. The 'e' needs to be the strength .. maybe something hand-drawn instead of modified text?
Here is something I came up with...

And im back :)
For the record, our motto/slogan will be 'Shaping the Digital Future'
Demex: Now we are getting the hang of it ... the 'e' could come right out and be used as a logo :). Erm ... is it possible to make it less ... 'bubbly', and maybe something other than a hand? ALong the lines of something cyber/digital.
j-design: 1. LLoks slick, but a tad too simple. 2. Sorry no .. heh.
El Kootcho: The 'nthropia.com' is spot on. Check out my comments to demex for more about what im looking at with that 'e'
crimson: when I said extend it vertically, I didnt mean to axe the slogan part at all! :). Again, I need the 'e' to be usable as a logo itself
Remember guys ... its Enthropia.com .. not JUST Enthropia
had a bit of time this evening because a client's site was down (I'm enjoying it while it lasts) so I thought I'd toss my hat into the ring with two quick entries just in done in black for now:

rabbit: The second one looks much better ... that e could be used in isolation :). Two things .... Anyway to make it a bit more ... colorful with the site colors? And the e itself ... sorta reminds me of glaxo smith ;)
Demex: Looks better now ... but that hand confuses me. Any possiblity to see it with a digital/tech type of image instead? And can you show how it would look in blac kand white
Thanks :)

what sort of digital/tech image do you wish to use? PC, mouse, abstract? the way I was reading the slogan was that the hand was helping to shape the digital future which is the 'e'.
AhmedF
02-18-2003, 01:21 PM
j-design: Hehe .. looks good, but I dont think it will fit with the image.
Demex: Ahh ... now I understand :). Well, when it says 'shaping digital', perhaps have a mouse, disk.. sorry, Im not very creative :(. I would also prefer if it wasnt a standard clip art image .. unique perhaps? B)
Just to clarify when I keep talking about the 'e', imagine taking it away, and then sticking it in the corner of a page. So lets say I have a 10 page report, and in one of the top corners is just the 'e' itself.

And a couple possible print renderings

Here is what I ment with the hand/digital effect. (image attached) its an example of the idea I had...
Palmer, at http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/index....f=4&t=151&st=15 (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/index.php?s=&act=ST&f=4&t=151&st=15) about 6th post down you have made a sample picture of your idea, but I do not belive you were running that contest. You also game your opinion:
"I think it's a neat idea using the UCCC in a circle like that but I'd have to agree, looks more like something you'd see on a metal bands t-shirt. It is a very awesome logo, maybe just not appropriate for a church group. Jon, maybe you can stick with the UCCC in a circle but make it a little softer and rounder. Here, I did something quick to show you what I mean and I used an icthus instead of a cross (your cross looks a little like a dagger)"
I also do not see Syntax asking for help or ideas on there.
Please someone explain to me why the 'refrain' rule apply only to me? (Email bugz51@hotmail.com)
Thank you for your time.

These posts are unnecessary and have nothing to do with the contest. If you have a problem with the way I operate my site then take it up with me via private message. I am allowed to say things because I am the Administrator.
I'm not going to allow someone to barge in and tell my Design Team, especially one of my Moderators, how to design. I would recommend you quit posting in this thread.

And im Back!
Beetle: I Like that stuff. Possible to merge the nthropia from #2 with the outline of #1? :). While the 'e' is getting there, it feels like its ... lacking some flair. Show me the creativity I know you have :D
rabbitdog: That E looks familiar :). But that is DEFINATELY looking nice ... just one thing again [heh] ... as my friend said, the 'e' isnt "distinctive". Maybe a slight spruce up? But it is definately looking good.
El Kootcho: #1 reminded me too much of the older IE 'e' look, and the second one looks ... hehehe .. I dont think it would fit ;). Try imagining the 'e' by itself, on a shirt, right where the breast-pocket is.
I hope my comment to ElKootcho clears up by what I want for the 'e' .. something very brandable and identifiable ... I am likely going to get a plain white shirt made with 'Enthropia' where the breast pocket is, and the 'e' logo on the back.
Sigh im a geek! :D
Btw ... the finalised motto/slogan is 'Empowering the Digital Future'. Also, the '.com' is no longer required.
No more 'design' changes after this promise B)

Oh, and can you clarify 'flair' for me? In color/style or shape?
Hi Ahmed,

Sorry I havent been around.
mhg: looks like you got something going, but I Think it needs a bit more finish. Some color perhaps? ;)
ElKoothcho: Getting there. It gives me a science/atomic vibe, which as a comp engineer, reminds me of my hated chem engineer associates! :D. Perhaps something more techy/digital?
beetle: I like the first one, especially with how the e is close to it. Could you somehow make the text itself like how #2 is? Basically keep the bluish outline, but have hte inner text like #2?
When I talk about flair, I mean .. erm .. pizzaz.. style. Something that would make me look at the 'e' and go 'Wow!' .. or something that when I see that 'e' once, I would remember it.
Demex: Thank YOU for all the effort you have put in. Still a bit of time to go, so maybe you can get some inspiration and blow all of us away ;). I will definately remember your entry though.
Ill be back soon guys... remember.. somehow that 'e' has to have a 'i remember this' factor. Best if it could also incorporate something digital/tech .. perhaps in the background behind it.
beetle
02-19-2003, 11:01 PM
Could you somehow make the text itself like how #2 is? Basically keep the bluish outline, but have hte inner text like #2?
Sure, but you really didn't comment on the curvy 'e', so I'll leave it in for now. I like the dynamic it provides.
http://www.peterbailey.net/clients/do/enthropia/logo8.gif
Or would you rather see the regular 'e' and no slogan?
Also, I don't think putting anything into the background would help, and could possibly hurt. The more complicated a logo is, the harder it can be to remember, something you are obviously key on. Here, try this. Go grab a piece of paper and a pencil. I'll wait
Ready?
Sketch a Pepsi logo. Or Cingular logo.
Not bad, right?
Ready again?
Sketch a Michelen man. How about Reebok or Subaru?
It's not that those companies have bad logos, it's just that this "See it once remember it always" effect you are going for means the 'e' has to be simple.

Oh no you got me there! :)
Just two slight modification ... the 'e' .. can u made that 'point' a bit more curved? [if you dont know which one I am talking about, I can post a picture]
Also, can you bump the slogan down so that enthropia is just on its own? Sorta like your previous #1 was.
Lastly [uhoh #3!], could I see it in black and white?
Thanks!

I have to say, I have been impressed with the logo designs I have seen within this forum so far.
Both QSDA and Huhso are quite impressive logo designers.
Hell I might even have them try and design one for me.
