Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
Stephanie Robin Photography & Design
If necessary I could live with ditching the & design part.

What type of product or service do you offer?
fine art custom newborn and maternity portraiture. I also photograph babies, children and families on occasion but newborns make up the majority of my clientele.

How long have you been in business?
2 years

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
attract a higher end clientele. Somehow tie in the idea of being a newborn specialist.

What are your long term goals?
owning and operating a commercial photography property dedicated to newborn fine art portraiture. Recognition within Canada as a newborn specialist.

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
November 5th

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
female. 25-40. mid to high income.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
high income clientele.

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
something classy but whimsical too. Nothing overpowering. I would like the logo to be recognizable yet not overpower the images presented on the site and blog.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
blue. I already use blue and red. I like how they tie in with my business name (Robin's egg blue. Robin redbreast. Etc.)

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
Not definitely but I've toyed with the Robin idea. Not sure I definitely want it though. I would like some graphic element that I could use on a round 1 1/2" sticker

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
high end, newborn specialty (so maybe something fresh or representative of the new, new life etc.)

What is your tagline or slogan?

What is the overall message you are trying to convey to your target audience?
That I am specialized and highly competent at newborn photography

Where will your new logo be used?
website, blog, business cards and other promotional materials

Competitive Positioning:
Who are your competitors and what do you think about their logos?
Most of my local competitors don't have logos. Those that do, likely made them themselves with typical standard fonts which I'm not into.

List competitive URLs if possible

What sets you apart from your competitors?
posing skill and hopefully soon my branding. :)

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
high end and fresh.

Other info/stuff that might help...
current site: www.stephanierobin.ca
current blog: www.stephanierobin.ca/blog (please disregard the abundance of family / child sessions on there at present... it's the fall and the only time of year I photograph anything other than mat/newborns thanks to christmas).

THANKS! I'm totally excited to see what comes of this. I know a couple of other photographers who got great logos this way!
Stephanie

Please let me know if there's anything else you need to know. I'm very eager to see what you talented designers come up with.
I've been thinking about the graphic element and am also drawn to robin's eggs or nests etc. but something small and simple. I currently use a robin's egg as the O in Robin within my name.
Thanks!

Carol thank you so much for your submission. I can't tell you how eager I was to see a few designs.

I do really like the little bird and also the circle is nice but I worry that it might be hard lining it up on a circular sticker if I go that way. I'm a bit of a perfectionist about things lining up for printing and I think a non circular logo might help with that.
Also, the colour scheme of the logo (in terms of the blues used) needs to compliment my current branding on the website (http://www.stephanierobin.ca) and blog (http://www.stephanierobin.ca/blog) so that I don't need to go back and do revisions to that.
I'm including some examples of things that I like.
I really like the simplicity of some of these. I love the way the adore logo pulls in the idea of "adore" by using the heart shape for the center O.

Carol, could I see the logo without the circular S graphic at the top and instead incorporating the bird into the O of the Robin somehow? And maybe incorporating colour within the text elements as well? Thanks

Xpressions, thank you so much for the submission. I think this is definitely close to what I was thinking. I'm not too sure about the parentheses. I would still like to go with my background image on my blog and front page of the site and I find (for me) the square lines of the parentheses don't go well with the damask type background (see attached). Also, Can I see the "Stephanie" beside the Robin instead of on top of it? For where I would be using the logo on the blog it would need to be wide or long in order to have impact although I do like the option of having the more compact version for stickers and business cards etc.

Oooo Thanks Xpressions! This is definitely moving in the right direction.

Things I like about this version... it's long and fits well with the blog header. Love the brown blue combo... never considered it b/c I always went with the red and blue but it certainly makes things easy for my packaging! Brown photo boxes and or bags/ribbons are not that hard to find. Love that I can use that cute little nest on a sticker by itself. If I brand myself well enough, it could hopefully be a recognizable symbol for my business.
I'm having a hard time letting go of the red. Maybe this is stupid... 3 colours might be a bit much anyhow or I suppose I could always bring in the red with ribbons on my packaging but I wonder if I should have some red element in the logo in order to make it more coherent.
Do you have any thoughts on whether I should incorporate the red and/or how?

Red from my current logo... please excuse the shoddy design.

On another note. I am really digging the nest concept and like the graphic here but am wondering if it screams high end or not. I really enjoy the personality of this graphic... it seems young / modern and definitely fresh (which I did ask for)... but I would also like it to say exclusive / pricey.

*side note* does anyone know how I can downsize or replace that crazy background attachment I threw up? I hate having to scroll sideways with every post as I'm sure many of you do too. :)

Thank you for the feedback. Here is another version changing the typeface to someting a bit more formal and adding a bit of red.

Going great places. :)
I'm not in love with the red within the nest. In fact I think your original blue and brown was much more impactful. That said, I don't mind the red wording but I think the Stephanie Robin and the nest aught to be just blue and brown as created above. This nest is nice too but it may be a tad too simplistic now. I'm loving these as examples:
nest 1 (http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-illustration-6411239-bird-nest.php)
nest 2 (http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-illustration-11981146-bird-nest.php)
nest 3 (http://avintagetouch.blogspot.com/2010/03/thinking-of-spring.html)(first image)
nest 4 (http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-10750742-birds-nest-with-golden-egg.php)
nest 5 (http://www.zazzle.ca/robins_nest_poster-228638586356946358)
Something scratchy or twiggy but small like you've presented also.

For fonts... I'm not sure I'm in love with the Titling font. Maybe something scripty?

Thank you so much xpressions for your all your attention and the quick revisions. I really appreciate it. I'd also love to see anyone else's interpretations of the above as well. Carol if you're still there or any others are welcome also. :) Although I'm very fond of the nest, I'm not opposed to seeing interpretations with just an egg or otherwise as well.

That's really beautiful Stephanie. Thank you.
I wonder... could I see it with a filled in nest by replacing the white in whatever way you feel is best to imply depth in the nest. I'm not sure if it will look right as right now the eggs really stand out and that's really appealing but would love to see it for comparison.

Also, I just realized that my phone number ends in SRPD for Stephanie Robin Photography & Design. Could I see a rendition with the & Design added? (design as in albums, birth announcements and storyboards... not anything even close to the talents here lol). Actually, compared to you all it makes me feel a bit like a hack! You are all so talented.

Oh wow. Thank you for the recent edits / submissions!

GLYPHICA - I really quite like your nest concept with the spotted bits. The colour scheme is spot on in terms of the blues and browns. I'd still really like to see a version with the nest filled in. I really like your nest concept however I can't help feeling it may look somewhat like a wreath with the white centre. Would love to see it filled in implying depth in the nest. Also, although I originally stated I could drop the & design, I forgot that my phone number ends in SRPD (7773) for Stephanie Robin Photography & Design. Could I see a version with the & Design? I really like the overall feel of this one. Well done!

XPRESSIONS - The new nest is lovely. I prefer it above as in your last example when paired with script type font. Of the fonts, I like the third one best but am not sure it's perfect for me. I'm not in love with the look of that R. Can you suggest any other fonts that might work?

Thanks so much!

Xpressions - I'm liking version 7 a lot.
Would you mind showing me the nest within the writing using the #7 font? It might have just been that there were no capitals used in the above script versions. I don't mind no caps in the plain font but it didn't sit right with me with the script for some reason but I really like the concept... kind of like the heart shape and the adore logo above.

Glyphica - eager for your revision when you have time. :) No pressure.

Oh Glyphica.. forgot... also with the revision, could I see the nest a bit smaller and also a version of the nest within the name? Thanks.

Thanks Stephanie. I do prefer the nest filled in so to speak however I'm not sure if it's just that the colour is too dark for me or maybe I wish there were texture within the fill but subtle so it doesn't take away from the prominence of the eggs.
I do like version #2. Can I see the nest as the "O" in Robin just as in my original logo the "o" is formed by a Robin's egg? (terrible original logo btw lol).

glyphica
11-01-2010, 03:44 PM
I tried putting texture in the middle, but it didn't look right. Here it is in the "o" as requested :)

stephanieB
11-01-2010, 03:48 PM
Not digging the nest as the "o". :( You probably aren't either in this instance eh? lol.
Okay... what if there were no preconceived "nest" notions to work from... can you throw your best Stephanie Robin logo at me Glyphica? Free reign. :) Not sure if that's a blessing for you or a curse.

Yeah, I will come up with another entry without a nest and post in a day or two.

Thanks Xpressions. It's actually quite cute. I like the option of being able to use the nest within the name and also as a separate element. I also quite like the colour combo and sizing and kerning of the text.
One more favour... could I see the nest with the original simple non-script font? I like this nest a lot better than the other.

Ok... So I think I've made my decision. I'm getting GREAT feedback regarding one design concept in particular and really am quite in love with it.
So, I'm not sure where to go from here but I'd love to work with xpressions on Version 7. :)
I'm very much looking forward to completing the process!

Thanks so much. I really want to comment on your amazing dedication to providing submissions and revisions so quickly. I really appreciated your attention to my project. I also really like your nest. It's has such character and yet also feels high end to me.
I love the idea of the nest within the O of the Robin since I do think it's clever but I'm not sure what to do to make it work for me. Perhaps it is the font that is off. I don't find the original plain font high end enough, yet the script font is too busy for me with the nest within the font. Is there some other middle of the road font option that would look good with the nest as the "O" or do you think I need to go with the plain font if that's the concept I want to go with?

Okay so here's my question. I'm loving 2 renditions of the logo and I can't decide. Am I allowed to have one rendition with one script with the nest above and another with the nest within the writing?
I also would like the graphic of the nest alone so that I can use it on marketing materials and otherwise.
Please let me know when you can.
btw... the versions are 16 and 7.
