A website is required at http://www.ebuild-xml.org.uk/. The site will probably consist of static, publicly accessible pages. This design competition is for a template for the site.
Although eBuild-XML is a technical standard, the site is aimed at a non-technical, business audience.
It will have a projects page showing who is using the system, FAQS and a public 'members' page where all companies can make a statement in support of the Standard.
The design should reflect the house building sector and the advantages of the standard: savings, efficiency and accuracy.
About eBuild-XML
eBuild-XML is a joint initiative formed by sixteen of the largest UK house
builders to support the development of e-commerce in their sector, reducing
costs and improving efficiency and accuraccy.
The initiative is led by BASDA (the Business Application Software Developers
Association), and it is based on the successful eBIS-XML standard with
sector-specific extensions. A pilot has been completed with great success and
the project is now rolling out across the industry.
"We have identified major savings which can be made by exchanging orders and
invoices electronically. It will reduce costs, save time re-keying data, reduce
errors, and improve delivery to site," explained a housing industry
representative. "For us this provides the ideal low cost e-commerce solution
which fits in perfectly with our 'just in time' delivery requirements and it
benefits both house builders and suppliers."
The concept of eBuild-XML is to be a low cost initiative that any supplier or
house builder can join. The benefits of sixteen major house builders committing
to one e-commerce standard have been well received by the suppliers. "This will
make it easier to trade electronically with a vast number of house builders. A
single standard is very important for the growth of e-commerce in this sector,"
said a supplier's representative. "This is a very attractive proposition for
suppliers".
House builders, who are members of the IT House Building Industry Forum include
Alfred McAlpine, Bellway, Berkeley Group, Bovis Homes, Bryant, Beazer, David
Wilson Homes, Fairview, George Wimpey, McCarthy and Stone, Miller Homes,
Persimmon, Prowting, Redrow, Taywood Homes, and Wilcon Homes. Their combined
turnover exceeds 8 billion pounds sterling each year, building 65,000 plots
processing over 3 million purchase invoices presently printed out on paper, the
majority of which are sent through the post.
The initiative also has the support of a number of key suppliers to the House
Building market sector including Baggeridge Brick, Hanson Bricks, Jewson,
Moores Furniture Group Ltd and Travis Perkins.
