UNIQUE LOGO NEEDED - AREA 51 SKIMBOARDS!!! $100 [Archive]

Ok, this one should be fun – “AREA 51” skimboards.

We are launching a new line of skimboards (related to surfboards see attached photograph) called AREA 51 skimboards. The logo will be in the shape of an oval approximately 6.5” in length and 3.75” high and will be placed on the top of the 42” black skimboard (think of a wider skateboard).

This product has a very unique design and is marketed for the young MTV “skateboard” riders (8-15 yrs old). Since the entire deck of the board is black, the logo will need to really stand out and should incorporate bright (fluorescent) colors such as green, bright red, and silver.

The logo should have an Alien head in the logo (for those that don’t know, AREA 51 is a reference to a secret military facility north of Las Vegas associated with various government UFO coverup stories). I’ve attached some ideas for the Alien head. The name needs to be very futurisitc and unique. The name AREA 51 should be in the oval and should be prominent while KICKTAIL should be in smaller letters (its the model). The word “skimboards” should be outside the oval and will not be used on the board – just in marketing literature.

This logo needs to look really unique and edgy and must appeal to teenagers (meaning not too cute). We want it to be COOL and CREATIVE!

Not a bad start! The second alien is my favorite so far We'll need to make the name much bigger and I would like to stay away from a BLACK background as the entire skimboard will be black. Can we incorporate a flourescent red into the logo? I also thought a cool effect for the background would be something like in this Matrix poster (minus the black). Not sure if that's possible though.

Anthony - very, VERY cool - but would probably scare the s@#t out of an 8 year old. Since mom and dad are ponying up the cash for the board in all liklihood, I don't want to go that hard core and alienate (parden the pun) them.

The previous skeleton/alien/fish thingy is very cool - A+ for creativity, I'm just not sure it would work given the small oval we have to work with on this board. We will be introducing a board in a few months in which we can screen artwork like that directly on a wood board which would be TOTALLY KIller!

AWESOME STUFF FROM EVERBODY!!!

GENERAL CONCEPTS:

ALIEN - pattern after the one in initial attachment, PENNY LN (spot on!)
AREA 51 FONT - KEEP FUTURISTIC
COLORS/SHAPE - AVOID BLACK, KEEP IN AN OVAL
LIKE - incorporate satellite in logo, "AREA 51" Government sign concept w/font
PLEASE ADD a line under "KICKTAIL" w/an arrow at the end so it looks like a tail.

SPECIFIC FEEDBACK:

PENNYLN - OUR FAVORITE ALIEN (#2). Like the white cloak under the head too.
Like font for "kicktail." Keep Alien head the same size (move it down a little) and make AREA 51 larger on an ARC w/the head in the middle. Like "kicktail" font. Great 1st attempt!

DYNAGIRL - Really cool design - LOVE the AREA 51 font - it's really out there! Please replace the black with silver or another color. Pattern Alien eyes more like my attachment. Great job!

EL Kootcho - Like the 1st submission in yellow - Like the Government sign concept w/the name "AREA 51" - GREAT EFFECT. Would like the alien head bigger.

Disturb Reality - Cool design - Great font and light effect w/alien. We need to get away from a black background.

MUTE DESIGN - Very creative. The Skull concept will work great for another model. Looking for more of a futuristic "TERMINATOR 2" FONT. Like the satellite.

Now that's seriously C-O-O-L and definitely the direction we want to go in on this model!!! A couple of tweaks - give the backsground more of a silver color rather than the current dark look. Make "AREA" biggger, put the word "skimboards" outside the oval and running the length of the oval. Add a little "tail" of some sort to the word kicktail - it's a whole new design to skimboards and we really want to brand it!

DEADLINE FOR A WINNER HAS BEEN PUSHED UP TO THIS MONDAY, 12/01!
Several are contenders so the 1st to nail it is the winner!

My more pragmatic partner has reminded me to keep it simple. I realize we can't possibly incorporate all your great ideas in a 4" x 6" skimboard logo.

Here are the basic essentials:

1) the name "AREA 51" needs to be prominent in the logo as we are launching this as a new brand. It needs to be in a futuristic font.

2) need an Alien head. I would prefer that it is in the center of the logo.

4) the word "skimboards" should be outside the logo.

5) the word kicktail should be readable and have a little tail incorporated into the name. This is a new concept and we really want to brand the name.

6) Colors should be neon, flourescent greens & red, as well as silver. Dynagirl, you can keep the silver/blue.

Bonus:

Given these requirements there's not room for much else. However, it would be cool to incorporate either a) an alien hand flashing the "hang loose" symbol (instead of a peace sign!) or B) two symmetrical alien hands at the top of the logo holding the logo.

I'm losing my mind w/ this stuff! Let's wrap it up before I'm in a mental ward.

Really like the last one a lot but realize it's a little too busy. We may need to lose the satellite/background mountain on this one even though I love it (another logo perhaps in a few weeks). We need the "AREA 51" name to be large and easily legible. Please use the same font (TERMINATOR 2 style) for the word "Area" as you have for the "51." The 51 should be smaller. Let's do the word "kicktail" in that gothic font (red) that you used for Voodoo (where the lady is running away from the board). I would like to use brighter colors like a neon green (rain forest green?) as well as a flourescent red.

Whooaa! Spooky....

The colours represented here are for monitor display only; the 'pms' numbers quoted refer to the Pantone Matching System 'Dayglo' colours which include bright, metallic silver (877) used on the text. Which material they are printed on will also influence the final colours and vibrancy. Please refer to a PMS color guide for further info.

These bright monitor colours will not translate to print; however, logos supplied for printing purposes will have the Pantone 'dayglo' colours referenced and will print correctly.

DYNAGIRL - I REALLY LIKE THE FLYING SAUCER CONCEPT. I don't know if it's possible to pull that off using a regular oval shape - We absolutely can't deviate from the standard oval.

Really would like to stick w/neon/flourescent greens, reds - and silver.

Beatz My 3 year old nephew likes yours the Most. He says the green is the "Bestest." I like too but would like to see a larger, more detailed font in green and red/orange if possible. I like the "Kicktail font in #1. Not sure about the alien though.
Raja - I like the font style but not the alien. I really want to pattern the Alien after my attachment - it says "I believe" under it. PennyLn is the closest to the Alien head I like.

I've been trying to revise my flying saucer design for fitting on an oval, but I can't seem to get an alien head into it. So maybe I'll try the hand sign instead. If I can pull it off, I'll post it ;)

In the meantime, here are some revisons of my previous entries. I tried to make the other fonts as cool as the Area 51 font and tinkered with some other details as well.

Great job with the "Hang Loose" - REALLY COOL - it gives the brand an edgy feel all the while not taking ourselves too seriously.

On the last version, could you try to keep the "Hang Loose" w/in the oval and use a red for the "area" font and silver for the word "kicktail."

If you are able to access this on Friday, Can you take your entry (alien head -the blue/ red and green logos and make a couple of changes. I've been informed that it will be difficult to transfer a very detailed logo on a skimboard so we need to simplify w/solid colors and make the font larger..

Please get rid of the 8 round circles on the top of the logo, and raise the font up and make it bigger. Please do the Area 511font in a solid colors such as silver, red or green. Let's also try the alien head in green as well as the current silver.

My personal opinion though is that it looks nicer with the alien from the side as this way you can make the alien bigger. :)

I can access this site, it's just my email that I can't access while I'm away because I'm using an alternate internet service.

Currently, the logo is all done with gradients (everything except the outlines). Do you want me to change everything (background, alien head, alien eyes, text) to solid colors or just parts of it? I'll work on some changes, but if you can be a little more specific, it'll help.

Could you do a couple variations that I can have my manufacturer view? Bottom line, they will be unable to recreate really detaied images (I'm not happy about it but...). I definitely want the font in a solid color.

Not sure if you xan do it but I would like to see the other entry (11/30 -12:22pm) if you can move the head so it's a perfect oval - I really like how you did the curve in the font.

Could you take a stab at the Surfquest logo today too? I think we're pretty close on it.

To my dismay, my manufacturer has informed me that they won't be able to transfer detailed graphics on this skimboard. Thus, we need to simplify a bit (lose gradients, keep it simple.

Can you make the alien fingers a bit thinner - I keep thinking of Kermit the frog when I see green hands! Let's get rid of the alien symbols/graphics on the bottom and make the "kicktail" font horizontal rather than vertical = the "kicktail" name should be larger and more prominant - add a little tail for effect if you can....
