I am presently initiating a company that is a legal documentation assistance company. This is not a law office. I have the concept of an ink quill and bottle and a parchment sheet. I do want to stay away from anything that looks or suggests that I am an attorney. It needs to be formal, yet relaxed, and possibly a hint of femininity. :help:
Company colors are burgundy, gold, and black or dark charcoal.
The image needs to be simple and elegant, but above all professional.
thank you for any help you provide! :)

Also, what is the name of your company?

oops - slapping my forehead for the sure stupidity of omittng the one most important thing.
The name of the company is "To The Letter".
The initial prize is $75. I dont think that this will take very long to create.
thank you for bearing with me

Hello Dee :)
Allow me to get things underway. ;)
Formal, yet relaxed...

Hi Eagle- thanks for the speedy reply and submission...
QQ: the single larger parchment - could this become a transparency that could be used on stationary? (kind of like a sheer picture that can be typed over without blocking the text? - I prolly sound like a moron, does this make sense?) This is an afterthought - also, the logo will eventually need to be used on flyers, business cards, web page and signage - if all goes well.

is it possible to use the Brush Script font for the company letters? or would it look to heavy? I did like the text from Jayson's submission. Its more contemporary than the New Times Roman.
Also, just because curiosity killed the cat, and satisfaction brought it back... what would the logo look like using a burgundy quill with gold accents? Can we add an ink well to the logo?
These are only thoughts shared for some feedback as to what is possible

Jayson, is there anything we can do about the placement of the blocking that I will presume to the parchment? For a business card it would be perfect; however, for the stationary, brochures and envelopes and the usual la-ti-das of the coorporate environment, it wastes a lot of space. Most logos are presented at the top of the page and this format would be best placed at the bottom of a page.
What can I assist with to ease the creative development?

Dee,
Here is the switch in colors, I will work on adding the well.
I think this concept allows you to place the logo wherever you would like on stationery, envelopes, brochures, etc. I could always come up with design solutions for all those types of materials.
I am favoring the middle of the three fonts, let me know what you think?

OMG! wow!
very very classy! flows nicely - maybe I should leave out the ink well....::thunk thunk::
What can we do about the stripe on the quill? It appears to be orange rather than gold- or dark yellow?
Mowling
12-03-2003, 01:26 PM
I can make it a lighter yellow...just a few minutes

12-03-2003, 01:49 PM
thank you Jon for your submission, but its not really what I am looking for...its more old world than what I need.
Mowling - is it just me, or does this now look more like pepe' le pew's tail than a quill? Can we try to make the quill a solid color? try the yellow first...then the burgundy... :o)

Avatar - that is great! :o) I like the simplicity of the overall design, and it will do well to carry over to other medias as well -
Mowling - out of the 3 submitted the upper left is preferred....the stripe is not doing anything for me.
Amanda - the quills are fine- but its a bit to plain (?) and the font is to fancy. I do like the last/bottom entry though.
This is going to be a real toss up for me.
QQ for all involved..... if you had free reign to design a logo for this company without any design concepts from me - what would they look like?
DResent
12-03-2003, 04:06 PM
this is what happens when I try to do to many things at once....
Jon your design is very nice...I am concerned however about the white light that seems to emminate from the center. Is there a way to tone it down a bit? Its a clean style and succinct.

12-03-2003, 04:21 PM
Jon- thank you for revising the image- the darker red- no light is much better and easier on the eyes. I am searching for something that can be used in all media types and this would work.
I have not made any decisions yet...please be patient.. I promise I wont be long or drawn out.

So far the choices are staggering.
Im leaning towards, Jon, Eagle and Mowling
However, please note that if you have any new concepts I am interested. As I am a legal documentation assistance company I want to stay away from any justice symbols that would lead people to think I am an attorney for liability reasons.
Any ideas?

Dee,
Just wanted to toss this out there.
Since you are in legal documentation, I would tend to think part of your work requires faxing and/or photocopying. I would just like you to think about what your logo would look like on a fax or on something photocopied. This may help you in making your decision. All of the above are great designs!

sorry its taking so long to get back to you - Avatar is unfortunately - you Jayson I goofed big time! Additionally, as I deal in legal documentation assistance, photocopies are not allowed really, Signatures must be original when presented to the court. What I do is assist the common person in representing themselves in a court of law without the high hourly rate of an attorney. Bankrupty, Simple Divorce,Child custody, notary, small business set up, budgeting assistance with creditors, and other legal issues to numerous to mention.
Beatz- I like the compactness of the logo you created; especially #7, any ideas for a "slogan"? also, any way to make the font more solid and less striped? Im not a person that is into stripes really, nor flowers for that matter. Clean and simple with class and elegance.

Dee,
here are some revisions; 7b is what 7 looks like but with the "letter" non-striped and the ink well and quill more defined - the others are variations of that.
8-8e are versions with a more solid yet elegant font.
Hope you like 'em :)
Thanks,
Frank

good morning one and all - It was a long night spent looking and relooking and opining about which graphic to choose.
First let me thank each and every one of you for all the effort you put into this forum and my "preconcieved" ideas that you may (or may not)have laughed at.
Jayson, your last submission is very nice - can you please provide a mock-up of how it would appear on letterhead, business cards, brochures/flyers ? As it is - it makes for a great sign! :D
Doug, this last design from you is fantastic! and it photocopies nicely too ::wink @Jayson::
Jon, if you are still with us here- could you also provide the mock-up of your design on letterhead, business cards, brochures/flyers?
As soon as I receive these - I will be rendering my decision....

Dee,
Below is one concept for what your letterhead and business card MAY look like. Designing you these items is a whole other process, one which I would also love to work with you on. Let me know what you think, and as I said before, the possibilities for your letterhead, business cards, envelopes, and any brochure work, can be limitless.

I really hate this part - Frank.
The idea was great - but for some reason, I could not get past the font - it was just to - - I cant quite find the words to describe what it is, they were to "large" "cartoonish (?)" these may be the wrong adjectives, but I cant figure it out yet. :(

just to be clear , which font do you mean - the original (striped) one in 7 or the one in 8-8e ? Or both :D ?

First - again let me say that all the work that was done looks great and the decision was a very difficult one to make. ::notworthy::
In fairness to all, thank you so much for all your efforts, you are extremely talented and I can appreciate all the referrals that you must get from previous members.
I have made the choice to go with Doug's entry. ::clap::
Doug, if you could let me see the graphic on the left side of the page as I stated earlier, I'd appreciate it.
So at this point, I must now refer to Palmer and ask him - what do I do now?
Thank you so much for everything - one and all!

Why does everyone always ask that? :D
The next step is to contact the winnning designer by private message or email letting them know that they are "the chosen one".
The 2 of you can work out any minor revisions you might need (no charge) and then the the designer sends you a zip file with a few different file formats of the logo.
Thanks
Congratulations Doug!!!
