Company Details

1a) Name of Company
JJLuna.com is the official site of Author JJ Luna. JJ Luna has written many books including his most popular printed book, “How To Be Invisible”.

1b)Company Tag Line or slogan:
None, yet. “I am known as a man to trust,” says Luna, “but I certainly do not wish to say that about myself.”

1c) Do you have a company logo?
We have a new logo, not yet used. It is available at:
http://howtobeinvisible.com/design/JJLuna_Logo_Final_1.png

1d) Do you have a corporate visual identity (a customized (non stock) logo and color scheme carried out throughout your office, stationery, business cards, etc.)?
None exist currently, though we hope to carry the branding of the site throughout our remaining media.

1e) What is the nature of your business?: Briefly describe your products or services:
JJLuna.com provides the following, in the order of importance:

1. Luna encourages the purchase of New Mexico limited liability companies, and directs prospective buyers to Rosie Enríquez, an Organizer in Los Angeles, CA.

2. Luna himself sells ghost addresses in Alaska and in Spain’s Canary Islands.

3. Ebooks are offered for sale, ranging in price from $9 to $29. Subjects include low-profile banking, how to hide things, self defense, home security, living off the grid, surviving financial meltdowns, alternates to college, and how to make money without having a job.

4. Obtaining clients for private consultations ($3,000 and up)

5. Obtain new e-mail addresses by offering free e-books in return. Later, signing them up as members of an inner circle ($99/year)

1f) Who is your target market? Who are you hoping to reach with your site?
HowToBeInvisible is read primarily by men, but also by many women. The most common ages are between 30 and 50. These people are privacy conscious individuals with a keen interest in being discrete in their daily lives. These people are not tax dodgers or conspiracy theorists, rather people that believe government should be there to help people rather than to inspect them. Some are Libertarians, some are home-schoolers, some are wealthy persons out to hide evidence of what they own, and a small number are survivalists. A small percentage are in Europe, especially the UK.

Website Details

1b) Do you have an existing website? If so, what is the URL?
Yes, we own the domains “JJLuna.com”, “HowToBeInvisible.com”, “Invisible-Privacy.com” and “CanaryIslandsPress.com” to name a few. The blog for JJ Luna is http://blog.invisible-privacy.com

2b) IMPORTANT: Please list at least 3 URLs (web addresses) of high quality sites that you like the look of (these do not have to be sites who’s business is similar to yours. It aids us in determining what your design style is.) Please consider layout, colors, navigation, graphics, and typography.

This is the best, with a clean look and a primary navigation, upper toolbar, and call to actions that we like:
http://www.bodyguardz.com/company/about-us

Others
http://www.sovereignman.com/
http://www.bly.com/newsite/Pages/testimonials.php
http://abcnewsradioonline.com/
http://apl-aps.com/id67.html
http://wordpressforpi.com/clients/

3b) What colors or color schemes would you like?
To be defined. Am partial to how Simon Black uses black and white, and how bodyguardz uses gray, with small splashes of bright colors.

4b) List the Navigation links for your Site:

Primary Navigation Tree:
 HOME
 RESOURCES
o PRIVACY
o GHOST ADDRESSES
o SECURITY
o CONSULTING
o NM LLCs
 MEMBERSHIP
 STORE
 SUPPORT

Footer Navigation:
Contact Us | Privacy Policy | Terms of Service

5b) What type of look are you trying to achieve? (e.g. clean, high-tech, conservative, warm, flashy, etc.)

Clean, trustworthy, no trace of a hard sell. We never allow advertising. Over 11 years, Luna has ended up with a small but faithful following. Anything he writes, they buy. Anything he recommends, they buy it. For that reason he uses extreme care in making recommendations.

Adds the webmaster: Clean and ultimately readable. Think “Apple.com”. High quality photos directly related to privacy, security, and self-employment (to avoid being listed on the US “New Hires” database).

6b) Please provide the addresses of competitors' sites, if possible:
At present, only one serious competitor: Their aim is to steal business from Luna and they’ve tried unorthodox methods to do it, including white on white letters on the LLC page that said “ JJ LUNA” and HOW TO BE INVSIBLE” so as to show up on Google searches. They were caught and the website was taken down, so now they have a new one. However, they make claims that are suspicious and so far, do not seem to be catching up to Luna.

7b) Do you have any images for use in the design of your site? If not, do you have images, can you offer suggestions of what you type of imagery you feel would be most suitable for your website:

We have many stock photos that we can upload as part of a design resource package soon.

Deadlines and Deliverables

1c) What is the deadline for your template design?
January 30th with final template delivery by Feb 15th.

2c) Will you require HTML coding? (Yes/No)
Yes – A Drupal 6.x compatible theme template highly preferred. If not, the design should allow for simple theming which we can do after. Would like the PSD file for the design when complete.

3c) If so, will you require it to be ONLY CSS layout? (Yes/No --- {fees})
CSS is Required

4c) How many pages coded will you require delivered? ({fees})
Home page, one inner page, a blog layout page, and possibly an email template

Are there any other comments/specific ideas we should keep in mind while designing your project?

(1) We’ll need a login box near the top or top right corner of the layout. This box should contain “Email: [ ] and Password: [ ]” fields. See Mint.com for an example we like of this. We may also be able to get away with a “login” button that slides out a login window.

(2) If you’d like to use some stock photos we’d be happy to buy them for the final design if reasonable.

(3) Scaling widths are fine, the site needs to fit in the iPad’s ~960 final width screen size.

(4) We will need a “primary” navigation row, then a “secondary” – either right or left handed navigation column on inner pages

(5) A styled footer area with links would be useful for things like the “Contact Us | Privacy Policy | Terms of Use | Copyright” links

I appreciate you considering this project and look forward to the creative results I’ve seen in the past.

Hi Elena,

I'd like to see a closer copy of BODYGUARDZ with black and gray on the top strip, and the home page with a single column. I like the breadcrumb system on BODYGUARDZ and most everything else, especially the clean, uncluttered look.

Do you think you could update the design like that?

Thanks,

JJLuna's Webmaster

Hello,
Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I will post the new version tomorrow.
Would you like to keep some elements or do you want me to create from the sketch? What information do you need to be displayed on the home page? (was it what I've done or different content)?

Thank you,
Elena

I think it's best to start over.

I like most everything about http://www.bodyguardz.com/company/about-us including the single column on the hope page,

For the top bar, there is one other website that also looks good, with gray instead of black:
http://www.bodyguardz.com/company/about-us

I am not sure if the logo should go on the top area. It might work better as a small button on each page, to return to home page (or whatever)

My name should go at the left, (with a small head shot of me to the left of the name?) and perhaps a picture of my book at right, taller than the bar so it sticks both above and below.

However, I am open to other suggestions.

Hi,
I need your confirm, is this job for 4 items:
Home page, one inner page, a blog layout page, and possibly an email template ?
or just for the website? (Home + inner)

thanks

JJLuna

Hi Gig,

We'd like to see at least a home page to start with and can decide on a designer from there. Once we've identified the brand/color scheme/template elements then the rest should fall into place quickly.

The email template is optional, but we would like three variations of the main theme so we can use them on the home page, sub pages, and potentially on a blog screen.

Regards,

JJ Luna Webmaster

Hi Elena,

Here is some feedback from looking at your submission. I've broken it down into Liked, Disliked, and Like To See sections.

Liked:
- The circle arrow you created, good visible widget that we can reuse in the site/email templates.
- eBook cover/border styling. Subtle and very nice touch.
- Privacy requested in the upper left near logo, nice call out area idea
- Navigation, though we'd like it to be a drop down similar to bodyguardz site.

Disliked:
- font choice of stamped/military title font, maybe something different?
- font consistency in the page, we'd like it really readable and have good line spacing/consistency
- privacy requested door knob icon, it can go
- brown color for the top isn't very good with the black on top of it. Maybe a lighter color or gray?

Like To See:
- a single column or at most two column layout
- inline testimonials "block" or right column area
- drop down navigation similar to Bodyguardz site
- white dropshadow or glow behind logo for visibility
- most font / size consistency on the layout

Thanks for your help in this. I'm posting some more stock photos in a sec on this thread if you'd like to use them in the mock up.

Hi Elena,

I have a few updates from the author. I like the navigation you went with and overall the layout is clean and easily read, something we were going for.

A couple tune ups are included in the sketches at:
Click here for dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/54821253/1/JJLuna%20Stock%20Photos?h=efaff4)

Home Page (First sketch block):
- Ditch the login area, turns out we'll handle that elsewhere
- Can you add a slightly tilted rectangle in the upper right that we'll reuse on several pages?
- For the home page, we'd like the floatplane image put in the upper right area. For other pages we'll do as mentioned in the sketch.
- Ignore the message block in the sketch, we'll handle that within the page so that central area can be blank for now (we'll also be able to put shopping cart controls there)
- Can you put the logo back above the navigation bar where the author picture is now with a slight white glow/shadow?
- Where the logo is now can you just label that link HOME
- The new slogan will be "International Privacy Consultant", placed below the author name next to the logo
- The email address and share links in the toolbar can go, probably will need to for the floating upper right image.

Thanks Elena - I think we're getting pretty close here. The font and sizing is spot on for reading and very clean. The three ebook blocks look great as well.

Which version do you like more #19 or #20 (which is just whiter)?

JJLuna
02-14-2012, 08:36 PM
Hi Elena -

Can we go with #20? The sepia was nice but I know that most of our images will be on a white background along with the online store.

JJLuna
02-14-2012, 08:38 PM
Oh also, can we tune up the gray a bit? The black text is a bit too hard to read - can the gray lighten up 20% or so where black text is on top of it?

The gray behind the white text looks good.

Hello, you asked to put the floatplane image in the upper right area. Do you want it in the top bar where login area is or under the menu bar? If you like to put the image where the login box is right now it's better to move login in the menu line.

Hi Elena,

The picture in the upper left (float plane) should go on the upper right where the login is.

The login will go away.

Can the orange stripe on the upper left go away for now?

Can the illustrated logo be larger and where the image floatplane is now?

Thanks

Hi Gig & Elena,

I met with JJ Luna yesterday for a couple hours and we painstakingly went over each design submitted for the items we like. Mr. Luna is very particular about some things and we cycled through many colors and font sizes until deciding on the ones below for the site. I was also able to get a final JJ Luna logo block area along with tagline, also below. From the sketches I put together the general structure for the homepage and one interior page to help with communicating what he'd like.

What is flexible/still very needed:
- home page interior layout
- call to actions blocks / interior page layout ideas
- blog interior page post look & feel
- third level navigation ideas
- an "order now" and other standard button style
- div style for highlighted content
- footer navigation ideas/copyright location

I'm not great with CSS and we'd like to pick someone who can do the best job replicating the layout samples below in HTML/CSS, along with the most creative body call-to-actions. From your next submissions we'll pick the winner.

Site Styles & Layout Info:
H1 Font: Franklin Gothic Medium Condensed
H2 Font: Same as H1, slightly smaller
Navigation Font: Eurostile, Caps for L1/L2, Title case L3
Body Font: Verdana, 11pt, slightly more than 1 em linespacing
Width: 960px total page width, fixed max
Background: #1c1c1c (dark gray)
Page body: White
Logo block: The one below
Navigation: Two tier tabbed navigation, rounded corners
Home Layout:
Single column layout with varying space for three column call outs, two column 70/30 split callouts, etc.
Sub Page Layout:
Similar fluid one column with right hand navigation for tertiary pages
Image In Nav: Floating image spanning between the header, nav, and part of body on each page. On the home page it will be a picture of JJ Luna near the floatplane, at the scale shown. Sub pages will be the copy of the book related to the specific page. Would like to handle this as a separate overlay'd PNG with transparency via CSS.
Search: Box above navigation nested right image

Logo:
http://jjluna.com/design/JJLunaLogo.jpg

Home Layout Example:
Full Size @ http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_Home1.jpg
http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_Home1_Small.jpg (http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_Home1.jpg)

Sub Layout Example:
Full Size @ http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_SubNew.jpg
http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_SubNew_Small.jpg (http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_SubNew.jpg)

I appreciate your hard work and thank you for helping us get through this last mile. JJ Luna is looking forward to picking a winner so we can get the site published.

Hi Gig,

As promised, here is the feedback. We liked many of the subtle differences in your design, the feedback below are the only items we'd like to change.

For the home page concept:
1. Logo and text treatment should be the one from the URL below. It looks like you have the logo right, just not the same font. I can send the layered version and fonts if necessary.
http://jjluna.com/design/JJLunaLogo.jpg
http://jjluna.com/design/JJLunaLogo.jpg
2. Mr. Luna would like the float plane photo from further out, making himself less focal in it. An example for scale is here. (http://jjluna.com/design/JackDesign_Home1.jpg)
The raw image is in the gallery here - float plane is orange. (http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/54821253/1/JJLuna%20Stock%20Photos?h=efaff4)
3. Navigation is good how you have it, though we need the ability to change the items via Drupal so just confirming that they will be done via CSS and "text" in the final.

On the sub pages:
1. Logo and text treatment should be the one from the URL below. It looks like you have the logo right, just not the same font. I can send the layered version and fonts if necessary.
http://jjluna.com/design/JJLunaLogo.jpg
2. He'd like some sort of mailing list sign up widget, either below the navigation or in the content like you did the call-out on the home page.

I believe with those changes we should be able to move onto generating HTML.

Regards,

JJ Luna's Webmaster

Some questions/ need confirmation are:

1. Please confirm that the last design preview is okay. (--> about the JJ Luna portrait, the logo, mailing list widget (inner page)
2. The top banner in the home page (1st best seller book etc) will be a banner image
3. But the book Catalog (Call out at the bottom of page will be a HTML CSS box
4. The picture of JJ Luna (home) and the Book (innerpage) will be flow above menu tabs
5. Is the HTML with table or tableless?

thank you!

JJLuna
02-26-2012, 09:32 PM
Hi Gig -

Thanks for the great work. Here are the answers below, your last submissions look great.

---

1. Please confirm that the last design preview is okay. (--> about the JJ Luna portrait, the logo, mailing list widget (inner page)
Looks great

2. The top banner in the home page (1st best seller book etc) will be a banner image
Sounds good, can we get the layered version of that box then for later content updates?

3. But the book Catalog (Call out at the bottom of page will be a HTML CSS box
That's great, we'll probably have various things to shuttle through there at different times.

4. The picture of JJ Luna (home) and the Book (innerpage) will be flow above menu tabs
That's the plan. It may be overkill on some pages and I bet we'll only use it sparingly. That said, it should be either a z-index float or something similar to avoid a permanent spot in the template that takes up room.

5. Is the HTML with table or tableless?
It's going into a Drupal 6 custom theme and an OpenCart template, so tableless is preferred.

thank you!
