(Admin code added by Palmer - 3F980197TV735630H)

Hello designers:

I have an urgent design need. I work for a very large international corporate insurance company and we have a new software application called "eFile". It is an electronic document repository, so in other words a "virtual file cabinet" so internal employees across the world can access documents associated with our customers, submissions, and policies.

There are three sub-products under the eFile umbrella:
1) eFile Web - a web application which runs in a browser.

2) eFile Desktop - a windows application which runs on the local users machine and sits in the sys tray when the user is not interacting with it.

3) eFile Office - a Microsoft Office add-in running in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

We need a set of three logos - one for each of these products. Here are the high level goals:

The icons should be very professional in nature. This is an internal application used by internal corporate employees
The three icons should basically be the same image but slightly different from each other - something similar to the icons used by Microsoft Office. The intent is for the user to understand that each of these three products are part of the same software suite
The icon should somehow convey working with electonic documents in a virtual geographically diverse environemnt
No need to convey the insurance domain unless the designer feels it necessaryPlease submit your intent to respond asap.

Bonus will be $100 for delivery of files by Sunday and $50 will be awarded to second place so we get a good turnout and great designs!

I have attached a sample screenshot of one of the eFile Web screens, along with a generic color scheme.

Thank you!

Here is my initial idea for your icons - the explaination is as follows:
1. The sphere represents "global geography".
2. The swoosh represents speed, travel, going around the world
3. The document icons are literal documents
4. There are 3 document icons in each design, representing the 3 facets of the eFile software.
5. The fore-document represents the actual facet of the software: ie: W = web, D = desktop, O = office - the "unused" documents are "greyed out".
6. The accent colours can be changed to whatever your preference may be. I used colour, to differentiate each arm of the software.

I would appreciate your thoughts/feedback.
Respectfully,
Kimber

Designers,

My apologies for leaving out these initial questions and answers. This is my first project on Design Outpost, so I am slightly unfamiliar with the process, etc. In any event, here is some more detail on the project. I have not answered all the questions below, but just the ones I thought might be helpful to you all.

Project Summary:
What text should be included in the main part of the logo?
- Ideally we would like one logo which contained the word "eFile", and then three additional icons that don't contain the word at all, but still reflect eFile in all three of its offerings (web, desktop, office). I usually refer to Microsoft Office as a template. There is an Office icon which contains the word "Office", and then there are multiple icons which don't contain the word (one for each product in the suite).

What type of product or service do you offer?
- This is an internal application used in a large corporate insurance company. The eFile application offers access to electronic documents (searching, indexing, viewing, etc.). These documents are typically underwriting/policy level documents.

What do you hope to accomplish with your new identity?
- The eFile application is not new, but we have received feedback that the three products in the suite do not seem related. There is a lack of cohesion between the three, so we are rebranding them into more of a suite. eFile Web, eFile Desktop and eFile Office. We are hoping that one overarching logo combined with three similar icons will help this rebranding effort.

What are your long term goals?
- For users to identify all three products as similar offerings under the same umbrella. When the user thinks of "eFile", these three products should enter their mind...

When is the deadline for final entries before choosing a designer?
- FRIDAY JUNE 15.

Audience Profile:
Please describe your existing audience
- Corporate employees. Underwriters, etc.

Who would you like to add to your audience?
- Nobody

Perception/Tone/Guidelines:
What type of logo would you like?
- The logo should contain the word "eFile" and be very professional in nature.

Do you have any colors in mind for your logo? (if so, why?)
- Yes. Although I cannot disclose my company or its logo, we would like to use our logo's main color as the main color of the eFile logo, in order to be consistent. This color is the dark blue square (top left) in the color scheme jpeg which is attached to this post. As for the three icons, I was thinking that each of the three could share this color, but also deviate from it and have a unique color unto its own. For instance, the eFile Web could have green in it, the eFile Desktop could have Blue, and the eFile office could have red. Something like that.

Do you have any specific images or icons in mind that you would definitely like to see incorporated into your logo?
- Nothing specific.

Communication Strategy:
What attributes would you like your logo to reflect about your business?
- Documents
- Virtual / Global

Where will your new logo be used?
- The logo will be shown in each of the three products (web, desktop, and office). The icons will be used as well to launch the various components from other applications and the windows operating system.

Targeted Message:
State a single-minded word or phrase that will appropriately describe your company:
Insurance

Just wanted to illustrate my concept with office...

1) There is a logo which contains the word "Office"
http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRWVn9qbAJ7QCM6lUS6lnh_F-pf4n0FQFZrAqSafAd40xdiHLA9

2) These icons all share the same patters but are all slighly different, and of course don't have the word in them at all.

Kimber,

Great first draft - thank you for replying.

I would like to ask you to make the following changes/additions. Please let me know your thoughts.

1) I clarified what I was asking for in the questions and answers post. Please review these, and my apologies for leaving out initially.

2) Could you create a single "eFile" logo that would be shown in all three products? This logo should contain the word "eFile" and use the colors in our color scheme. The icons you designed are nice and I can an attribute or two from them used in this logo.

3) As for the icons themselves, can you please try to incorporate more of our color scheme? I like the ones with the dark blue, since that is our corporate logo color (the top left sqaure in the color scheme). Perhaps this dark blue color and a light blue/ gray is on all three, but then there is a unique color for each of the three. Perhaps this unique color is only on the letter, or something like that.

Again, thank you for your reply and looking forward to seeing your updates.

Gig,

This is great! Very close to what we're looking for.

Unfortunately I can't reveal our corporate logo, but it is a very traditional font design - i.e. Times new Roman-esq. Serif. The font you picked looks jarringly modern compared to it.

I was wondering if you could play around with different fonts for the "eFile" piece... or really just the "File" piece, since the e is part of the icon suite.

I have attached something which i had in mind, although this is very basic and not nearly the quality of your ideas... just something to illustrate the concept.

Thanks!

Dave

Thank for the feed backs.
This is revise a bit. I use Garamond type for e & File
I also skew to left a bit the icon so not too much italic for "File"

thanks

Hello :)
Here is the second iteration: I've tried to keep the colours to your corporate scheme, although the blues may not ba an exact match, I was trying to keep them visually different, so I went for a dark, medium and light blue with grey/black.

Again, I would appreciate your feedback.

Gig,

This looks great. We're going to wait until next Friday to make a decision. In the meantime feel free to send more options on this theme if you have the time. All in all, this is a great design and we'll be making our decision a week from tomorrow.

Thanks again!

Dave

Hi Dave,
this is another way of the same style, complete with logo text and each description, but you can still use the icon stand alone. ;-)

thanks

First off, a big thanks to all the designers who submitted their work: cre8or, djaka, Glyphica, IM3D, and brunocalvin. It was a really hard decision and your work was excellent.

I would like to thank Gig for coming up with what we feel was the best design of the group. We are choing Gig's design for this project.

Moderator: Please move to the revision forum.

Thank you all!

Hi, thank you for choosing my design. Which do you want, the latest submission (post #16) or the icon only version (#12) ?

dwozniak
06-14-2012, 01:28 PM
Hi Gig. Thanks again - great design.

We like post #12. However, can you please also put the word "File" to the right of all of the icons as well (similar to how you did #16).

We don't care about the black and white images.

So to summarize, we're looking for 7 images:
- Large Logo at the top (as is - no mods necessary)
- Three icons (as is - no mods necessary)
- Three icons with the word "File" added in blue to the right of them

Finally... what format do you deliver these in? Do you have a vector based format which supports scaling without loss of quality?

Thanks!

Dave

gig

This is the final result, all 7 logos.

I will deliver in vector format of course!
here are all format: AI, EPS, PSD & JPG. If you another format just let me know!

thanks

Designers,

Sorry for not replying on second place - I complete forgot I promised this in the original request.

After meeting with the team, we have confirmed that Glyphica's design came in second.

I am sending an additional $50 through for Glyphica as I write this. Thanks again for all of your designs!

Gig,

As we discussed, please tweek your icons slightly so they will look good at 16x16 and 32x32...

I've attached the green "desktop" icon as a sample.

For instance:

The icons tend to be more horizontal in nature. Can you make them square so they fill up a square icon space? By having an image which is longer than taller, much of the square icon space is wasted.
The only way I can see doing this is to take out the computer, globe, and office shapes to the left of the folder. Can you possible incorporate hints of these inside the face of the folder? Not sure if this is possible.
The icon you sent was simply blue on white. We still want a fully colored icon similar to your original design, but simply with a transparent background.
Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,
here I make more square icon.
In icon with each hints, I remove the back part of the folder image, just "e" with folder cover
