Yes it is true.

They now offer a $99 replacement system and an extended warranty.

My issue with that is, if it expires after that term, you are still screwed and poured in $59 + 99 and shipping costs to Apple.

If you pay $400 + for a product, it should work with no issues or problems for a few years. But that is just me.

I think it has changed now or the support rep didn't know what he was talking about. Here is a thread that discusses it...

I am not sure what you are speaking of Palmer.

This IS currently an issue, per referencing the article on MSNBC which was published on the 20th of December.

Apple has addressed this issue, but amazingly close to the bros Neistat calling on them to face the issue. Even now, their replacement system is insane for a product which you pay $400 + for.

I think THAT is the issue at hand. You claim your products don't have the problems that Microsoft, Windows or mass produced products have, then thousands of people send them back to have their 'issue' taken care of for a few hundred dollars.

It was obviously an issue, and still obviously is to a degree. Personally I think the whole iPod thing is pop culture at best. There is nothing that is does or has which makes me want to even contemplate spending the $400 dollars on it...maybe that is the same reason Apple has never seen a dime of the thousands myself of hundreds of thousands have spent on personal computers over the years...

3% of the market share will never get you anywhere; especially when your products costs twice as much as the competitor(s).
