Hello. I am a memeber (one of 15) assigned to Squad 3. We are a new unit with Orange County Fire Departmant, FL. We are assigned to SPecial Operations. We are the group of firefighters who respond to the extra ordinary calls, like Hazardous Materials, confined spaces, accidents with entrapment, engulfment, high angle rope resuces and so on.

Several other stations in the area have patches. We have come up with one, but its not the best and most guys dont like it, so before we SETTLE for this one, we hope to see what you can offer. The winner will receieve one of ANY item we print with this logo and at least 20.00. If more guys like the art work, more money will be presented. (firefighters are cheap and dont get paid much )

We are looking to make this into shirts, patches, hats and stickers and one will be placed on our new unit that is currently being built. Please limit to 7 - 9 colors. When making the patch we will want it to be around 5" size so wording should fit and be readable on that size item.

I am sending some links of other local stations with patches. These are just to get an idea of some art work in the area already used. We want the patch to look fire traditional, easy to see and read, must say SQUAD 3, Orange County on it. We would like some type of slogan also, that is fitting to the logo, so room for it would be nice and any sugestions would be great.

The attachment is the first draft of an idea for our patch. We do NOT like it for the following reasons. Rhino not tough enough looking, wording is too hard to read, does not have "Orange County" on it, helmet looks bad and not fitted on head right, pants look wrong and the maltese cross does not have center circle seperated.

I know this is allot of information, but when your trying to get 15 firefighters to all agree on one logo, its tough to fit all the requests in. Please do your best.

Looking for deadline for this to be January 21, 2004. The SOONER the better. Even if you have nothing but your working on it, please post so I am aware of work in progress. Thanks, and stay safe.

I did the EMT/Search & Rescue thing for several years at a local rescue squad and really loved it. We did a lto of the same things, though, at the time, we were seperate from the fire department so we didn't deal any with the fire, except for assisting with HazMat in an operations sense.

Sorry, a bit late on posting this. I really liked your initial design, just cleaned it up and added some details.

I like it, and will present it to the group. However, we are not 4, we are 3.

I like it, and will present it to the group. However, we are not 4, we are 3. I am also sending a pic of the rhino with the type of helmet and helmet placement we are looking for.

Sorry for the delay in getting this updated, the holidays never seemed to end. :)

Anyways, heres the updated artwork. Corrected the helmet, and the 3, also added the clover on the shoulder, though I wasn't sure if I should add it in green, as that would be an additional color to the design. Let me know what you think.

Thats looking good. I brough the first draft to the group. They like where it is going but they have some feedback already. Im not sure how many more I will get, but wanted to share what I have already. I will understand if you want to wait some more before working, but the items I have would be nice to also.

On top, the 3... anyway to replace that with big bold letters saying SQUAD The patch company we will be working with has a glow in the dark thread, that looks white in daylight. We would like the SQUAD on top and the 3 on the bottom (to be mentioned) in those colors, shadowed in the same blue as the back of the shield (also to be mentioned)

The banner that currently says "special operations squad" could you change that to In Omnia Paratus

The helmet is looking better, but not wuite there yet. needs more of a point above the front shield. Im trying to find a good picture of what our helmets look like and how the 3 shows up on them. Will add that when I find it. The helmet front, could you change the back to a solid blue and make the 3 white. The three we would like to see used is a differnt style also, not sure how to desribe it, but its more of a triangle on top with the bottom being rounded. More "OLD TRADITIONAL" type.. blockish... any of that helping? :D

The truck on the bottom, not sure it works for us. We are thinking just a big 3 (like mentioned above) with the words THE ANIMAL working around it. We are calling our truck the animal. We are very proud of being 3.

The shamrock and axe head could be green. Our tools and equipment get marked with that shade of green, so it sort of fits us.

On the right side of the cross, the blank area, we would like to ghost in our starting date. Im thinking in roman numerals like X - XII - MMIII or EST: 2003.. or something. Not really sure, but something along those lines.

A mentioned, its hard to get all 15 people to have some say in the patch, and I really do appreciate your work on this. Im sure once we get this all done, that the patches and stickers will look great as well as the shirts.

well the guys like that one allot. Could you please remove the #3 from the top, slide the banner up some and move SQUAD down some, make the #3 on the bottom like the one on the helmet front. (that is a great looking 3)

The shamrock on the arm, could you please move it up some to not overlay the axe.

Only concern is the overall shape of the patch, we liked your first submission shape with the sides not being a circle or oval, could you please clean up some of the black from the sides and just make it more unique or individual looking.

Its a nice looking design and the guys are really getting into it. Look forward to having it made into our patches real soon.

The guys on one of our shifts reminded me we need to have "Orange County, Florida" on the bottom like we had in your first draft. Once this is done I will again show and hopefully have the guys all vote on it and get this approved. If you could just show the blue lines around "Squad" "3" "The Animal" a little thicker also, it would be awesome.

Well, I had planned on posting the last of the changes by today. When I got to work this morning, another shift found an upsetting item on the web. Our design is in use by another agency and is almost identical. We loved your design and will declare you the winner of this contest.


Sadly, we will not be able to use the design and will be reposting a new design sometime later today.

We really appreciate your hard work on this patch. Your design is a hundred times better then the other agency using it, and we really wish we would of had it up and running first.
