Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy is a Chicagoland, USA 501c3 all volunteer charity made up of over 120 specially trained dogs and their owners.
We mainly focus on working with special needs children, but also work with adult populations too.
We've had a website for about two years now. I was the one to come up with the idea for the site, so like most organizations, the person with the idea is made to do it! The site isn't so hot (I am NOT a graphic artist nor illustrator), so one of my goals for 2004 is to revamp the site.
"Robbie the Rainbow Dog" is a new mascot that we came up with this fall (we didn't have one before that time). Robbie walks in parades, makes apperances at community fairs & pet shows, etc. Robbie also has an ongoing "Coloring Contest" where young kids can color the flyer and send it in to win a stuffed animal.
You can see our current website at www.rainbowaat.org. There are additional pictures of the Robbie costume at www.rainbowaat.org/RobbiePreview.html along with a link to the Coloring Contest flyer in .pdf form.
Here's what I'd like to have done: Since Robbie is the new "voice" of Rainbow, I'd like to have a logo design that is "Robbie centric". The current website doesn't show it, but my vision is that Robbie always wears a "Rainbow Sash" where the Rainbow colors run lengthwise (the current one on the website has the colors going horizontally!)
We'll use this logo on our website, but we'd like to use it on our printed material (to us, a cash strapped charity, "printed material" typically translates into 4th generation Xeroxed pages, but I'm trying to change that), fundraising t-shirts and the like--so I guess ease of reproduction is perhaps important??? (These are things I don't know too much about.)
As you can see, Robbie is a black and white generic dog. The Rainbow Board of Directors were adamant that he be a generic black and white dog so as to not stir up any emotions people have about some breeds (I.e. some people feel that Dalamations, Pit Bulls, [fill in your least favorite breed here] make poor therapy dogs). Having said that, feel free to include Robbie' friends (other dogs or kids!) in there with Robbie if you think it adds to the design.
Since Robbie is a cartoonish character, one site I can point you to of a style of cartoonish drawing I happen to like is www.drawshop.com.
Since 1) I don't know alot about this subject, 2) everyone's time is worth money, and 3) I really want a good logo, I decided to forgo the $20 offer for charities.
Deadline: Is January 25th, 2004 reasonable?
Questions? Ask away, I'll be checking back frequently.
