(Admin code added by Palmer - 549842W)

Amount for flash changed to $145

This is for an illustration..or if you are ambitious and prefer a flash thingy for website(would raise prize to $145 if a flash one won--would want it as a graphic (sttic as well as flash animation)), and possibly Tshirt , Print or various uses (hopefuly sometime also for a calendar once I pull that off;-)

It can be done in ancient style or modern...
even would consider cartoonish..IF it was a moving depiction and not silly

Djehuty(Thoth Greek) gives Aset (isis in greek) written words which She makes efficacious by speaking them and brings Wesir (Osiris Greek) to eternal life and later to protect the newborn Heru (Horus-Hawk (closest Red tail Hawk) as he grew up in the swamp

Aset of course gives Djehuty Speak to make writing efficacious. The interplay and speak and writing makes community or civillization possible

The illustration must have Djehuty and Aset --
most likely wesir or his tomb should somehow be depicted
and a hawk flying by ...
swamp or swampy river bank

It should convey:

* The interplay between Aset and Djheuty...as productive of new life (Wesir) and Civillization (Heru or Hawk)

Though pups are always MORE than welcome..one need not have been a pup in a past life to enter. (I suspect pup has a full bowl at the moment)

Oh and by posting in this contest you agree if selected to give buyer full copywrite to Per Ankh: The Traditional Religion of Ancient Egypt..

(unless a separate agreement is discussed prior to posting--In any event buyer wants to be sure graphic will not be sold to others for use on websites or as logo or for resale by any other organization)

By the way...participants here may want to check up the Egyptian illustration and template contest (if they have not already)

I give a sense there of what I like and do not like in Egyptian take offs
And links to pictures of the deities/symbols/myths and some different artist folks on the web who did original work

Feel free to ask me to post good urls for you here as the resources there are a bit...err extensive.

I heard a rumor that some university was offering a degree in Egyptology to anyone who reads that entire thread ;)

rlevant
01-19-2004, 11:34 AM
wow neat..

While this would not work for the temple page (not sort of regal enough) it is something I am sure we will buy for other things

I know your still working on it..and love the concept

A few possible changes and a question

1. The bird rising up..is that a pheonix (heron)? Or?
Do I understand the imagery to be that the iteraction raises the heron and we see Wesir Rise as King?

If it is a heron longer legs and neck might make that more clear

Very cool

I would like more size equality between Djehuty and Aset

Also Djehuty .especially his face can look more realistic and he can seem stronger/more regal;

Also not sure but thinking that one of the most original aspects what you did here is making the hieroglyph headress of Aset into Hawk...I don;t want that to get lost in te picture...maybe with nore of an equality between Aset and Djehuty that would be handled:)

Also not essential...just wondering if there is a way to have more of a sense of deliberate interaction between Djehuty and Aset...This may not be necessary..or possible composition wise....but wanted to mention the thought

Terrific work

I cannot imagine we would let anyone else nd up with it ;-)

ok! I'll make all the adjustments. While designing this I wanted to place Osiris's tomb but I wasn't sure how that looks. I was also wondering if you would rather this be done like a realistic painting? Or more as how it is? Thank you for your time! :)

Hi There

Let me link you to a wesir tomb pict

I tend personally toward realistic BUT I am trying to break out of my narrowness on that... I LOVE the Aset and that head piece as Falcon is just brilliant

She is more realistic looking than Thoth(Djehuty) there..but ...I'll check with my people..While for the temple of Aset I would probably go more realistic .OR more traditional egyptian stylized like....I REALLY love what you are doing and would hate to loose it ;-)

And I know so far all comments from my Peanut Gallery (Priesthood) have been they loveit too:)

And we have been known more than once to take more than one in a contest...

and we have other projects this could really work for (illustrations for online calendar Henrique is making :))

I do like the idea of adding in the tomb and I'll pass that link to ya. I have to post another contest first

I would say go with the changes rather than going realistic unless you are inspired to do the changes AND try another LOL

Given the time this takes I really suspect you will be fine:)

Hi, this is a member of the peanut gallery, Rev Sedgwick.

I gather that the circular motif between Djehuty and Aset indicates the relationship between speaking and writing and the way those actions reinforce each other.

If so . . . wow (as Rev Renee would say). I could not imagine how that would be pictured.

And here's my comment: Oh, my!

I thought I'd post my 2-cents:

As with everyhting else, I think faster with a pencil, so here's the story:

The green arrow points to some squiggles (that represent "structured" heiroglyphics -- meaning they're laid out in straight lines, etc.) representing written words.

The red arrow points to "dancing" heiroglyphs that represent spoken words (floating int he air). These words transform themselves into Horus in his bird form, while Wesir's shadow looks on.

Aset & Djehuty are shown with their arms raised, which I believe, if I'm not mistaken is a symbol of "worship", "humility" or perhaps "Ka".

Please advise, if you would like to see it worked out, or if I should just eat what's on my plate. ;)

Okay...
Here's the "still" version:

<img src='http://www.kimberart.com/clients/egypt/screenShot.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

You can see it move HERE! (http://www.kimberart.com/clients/egypt/egyptSpeak.htm)

Now, it does have some of the same elements as the NitFestival Flash,
namely the Scarab pre-loader, and the winged sun disk.
I thought it would lend to a sense of continuity.

Please advise.
Kimber.

rlevant
01-22-2004, 07:48 PM
The elements you repeated are gorgeous:)

And so long as no one ElSE gets em hheheheee

I love it..especially the words becoming the hawk..I love love love that winged disk and having it with the Sun in which Stuff can appear is Very VERY Neat!

(Gives me some net ideas for the Calendar project--I can imagine the same winged disk with Sun or Moon and different colorations with different pictures in them each month---just a thought)

Three sorts of possible changes:

Sort One:

I would like to get a little more motion and have the connection between

1. The transfer of power between Aset and Djehuty

2. That raises Wesir from the dead

clearer...

I had a few idea on that

On #1: If the written words more clearly come from djehuty
and flow to Aset and from her

djehuty could write the words with his stylus..role them out over the river on papyrus..
Aset could gather these in her hands..put hands to mouth and release them?

A little complex this way but you get the idea

On #2_ I would love if the Coffin of Wesir was there and Wesir rises After Aset speaks:)

Sort Two

1..I would love Aset in this one to have a more colorful dress ..white is our ritual tandard but heck She is a God chuckling

2. I would also love to get some blue and green in ..maybe Djehuty whose face is sometimes green :)?

And the idea of a river on which the words flow would be REALLY powerful since (as you know I suspect) Mythologically it is said that Aset Brings Wesir to Life
And the Coffin would be another way to bring some more colors

Sort Three is the ending:)

I love the idea of a play again button and it looks great

I would love it though if it ended with a picture like what you have..with the Hawk

So that if it is on the main page of the site for Aset's temple the picture with the Risen Wesir , the Hawk , Aset and Djehuty will be there: as a static picture
(with the replay animation button)

Maybe ater the screen darkens fro Hawk expamsion..ahh I shouldn't try thinking the art part LOL

Fabulous...as usual WoW

I am getting jaded here.Look I posted and could even talk afterwards! !!!!

I am debating if for this I might want the throne headress..and if a little bit larger/Taller, stronger, darker skinned Aset might be more appropriate for the myths energy..but this is just a mumbling thought before talkig to anyone..and not something we would feel absolutely necessary I suspect)

Kimberly:

WOW :flowers: :palmer: :notworthy:

This is Rev Sedgwick. Excuse me. I mean "Oh My"

I adore the movement of the hawk and the sound and the little pause as the hawk flys up.

The movement of the hieroglyphics is wonderful, and you are correct that they can go from right to left

You consistently use that red and gold in such a spectacular way.

Wesir's face is extremely powerful.

I agree with Rev Renee that it would be effective to turn that papyrus into blue Nile River Wesir's coffin on the side and to give Aset a colorful dress. That would add color to the design.

I think if the hieroglyphs flowed on the water it would not be necessary to do anything more to Djehuty and Aset than simply to put a stylus in His hand.

Also for the rising of Wesir to come AFTER and as a result of Aset's speaking the Words and be connected to the rising of the Nile (The innundation) would be perfect theology :)

and then finally after the hawk's cry rather than ending on darkness, bring back to picture with the Risen Wesir and Heru (Hawk)

Finally, We are woundering about adding a very very short Audo from Andy as Djehuty and Rev Renee as Aset saying a few words of a Hymn about Aset causing Wesir to Rise. If we created that could it be very easily incorporated..or would that require a bunch of work?

Thank you so so much

Rev Sedgwick

Just had a thought incase it would be of interest to either of you..

This scene could easily have the winged Aset

In many of the Myths She either becomes a bird or flaps her beautiful wings returning breath of life to thedead to Wesir as She speaks

Lady lumini If you are doing that realistic version This might be a really neat way to go... especially since we will have (ahem assuming it wins--re are the flash contest) one that focused in the writing and words ....

If you do decide to go with creating a realistic one making it somewhat different from the story Cre*tor and your "less realistic' version tell..would increase chances of it being chosen (or added to our booty in addition)

Here are some possible variations on the reviving of Wesir by Aset

1. The Winged Aset really asppeals to me here..winged tall and dark

2. In some versions Aset flaps Her wings returning Life to Wesir...
Just enough life for them to have child....Heru (Horus or a Hawk)

3. In other versions Aset BECOMES a bird..the birs flaps huge wings over Wesir and revive him enough..ahem to ..err..well...he gets rather stimulated nd has a female bird hoover right over Him..Next thing you know--Heru (Horus/Hawk) is born t

In other versions it is simple Her words and breath that revive Wesir

One final thing

Aset is said to BRING the innundation..the rising of the water of the Nile..
gets assocayed with Wesir Rising from the dead and the sunrise

LOLOL.. We like symbolism

Do I ever sleep?

Night...

Audio would be cool. The only thing I can see is
it may inflate the file size for people on dial-up (Me).

But you could always have a broadband version: With Audio
and a Dial-up version: Without Audio

Or... maybe I'm just worrying about nothing much.
It may not inflate it that much.

If you'd like to produce then post the audio here,
I'd be pleased to attempt to incorporate it into my design.

I'm sorry. Every time I sat down to work on this illustration (I didn't feel bord), I Kept feeling something was missing....something is missing...I didn't mean to take this long. I wanted to improve my style at the same time and when I did and I looked at the other illustration I wanted to start over again.

Well, I can give you this illustration at no cost because of how long it has taken me. You can use it for whatever you wish. I have enjoyed working on this illustration and want to express how much I truly didn't mean for this to take so long.

Thats the part I really love

The new version I don;t know what I will think.;-)

Thank you. :)

May I clarify?
The illustration portion is null/void? Or, LadyLumini has won the illustration portion? Or, the illustartion portion is still "open"?

Forgive me if I sound rude.

You bet

We will cancel the illustration portion. (Since it had only 1 participant and LadyLumini was busy being hard on herself :))

That willl free her up to participate in my next Egypt Illustration contest

(And if she or I want to make an arrangement on the side for the Aset winged headress from her first version we can do that:))

Best
