Hello everyone,
AnimalActors.biz is getting ready to launch. We need a professional logo a.s.a.p. to match our site. Contest will end in about 2 weeks on Jan. 25th
To assist you I will describe a bit of what our business is about. We are an online Animal Talent Directory. We also teach trick training classes and conduct seminars around the country. We are looking to represent peoples pets (mainly dogs) as well as animal trainers/shows/performances. e.g. Think the taco bell dog or Frisbee dogs at a halftime game. Also parrot shows ... http://www.exoticbirdshow.com/
Stupid Pet Tricks on David Letterman may call us for acts to appear on his show.
You get the idea.
Our logo needs to be easy to read with pet-related artwork and the domain name AnimalActors.biz listed. .biz really needs to stand out as I do not want folks going to the .com site
The logo will be used for the website, apparel (embroidery and screen printing for t-shirts, hats, etc.) and marketing material.
It should still be intelligible when reduced to 120 pixels and also adapt well to B&W for newspaper ads/promotion. In the future we may do more with it such as graphics for vinyl signage, etc
Black, blue and red would be my color choices although I welcome your ideas. Our training facility is done in bright primary colors. Red, blue, yellow, green. We also use a lot of stars (curtains, signs, etc) patriotic themed and circus type props.
It would be great to have one version of the logo in three colors and another version with just two colors. I know 3 color business cards, fridge magnets, etc are a lot more than 2 color.
I would like the logo to incorporate a cartoon version on our company mascot
Ms. Hope.... The dog on this page with the spot on her head. You can find more pictures of her http://www.animalactors.biz/mshope.htm
I would like the logo in a number of formats including Photoshop. I want to be able to email it to a professional printer.
Dogs, cats, birds are all ok to use in the logo but no exotics please.
As far as a tagline goes, I'm open to your ideas. I have been advertising it as K-9 star search but that does not encompass all animals. We cannot use star pet, pet star or make your pet a star. The logo does not need to include a tag line but if I found a good one I would use it.
Thanks a bunch for your help. I am excited to begin the process!

Hi,
here are a few simple suggestions...:D
Note #3 is the same as #1 just with the color of the star slightly changes and a parrot added.
Let me know what you think and I'll be happy to work on any revisions you suggest.
Thanks,

cre8or Thanks for the complement. She is a GREAT dog.
We are off to a great start. I still hope a few more designers will take a shot at designing our logo. I do appreciate Beatz & pennyln getting things rolling. Wow you guys are fast.
Beatz I like #2 the best but am not sure how this design would look on a t-shirt. It looks like a sign I would hang outside of my business. Please can you start from scratch and give it another try. You obviously are VERY talented.
Pennyln I love that you got Ms. Hope's face so perfect. Very cool. The body looks a bit stiff though. I also like your choice in font and the star. Can you make it in a straight line like you did on the rabbit logo?
The tag line is great but it has already been used on a trick training series that I did not do <_<
Can you try again please incorporating the things I like and see what you can come up with. Thanks!
Please take a look at the page below. It may help you get a better idea for what I like.

Everyone....when you show me your idea's is it possible for you to show them to me like the example on the page below?

Raja Thanks for taking a shot at it. I really do want to use my little dog Ms. Hope in the logo. I hope you will give it another go. :D
piece of mind Can you show me this design with the star red? Also the font is a bit hard to read. Lastly can you remove the bandana and let me see what that looks like?
Designers please keep in mind I need a eye catching, easy to read design, that will be used on t-shirts/jackets/hats with embroidery and screen print.
Is anyone else interested in entering?

Since I really don't have a whole lot of an idea of what I want. I have been taking my time in replying till more designs have come in. I have been printing each design out and hanging them on the wall to see which ones guests to my home prefer. Also I have sent the link to my friends, family and fellow dog trainers asking for their input. I have not gotten a whole lotta feedback just yet so rather than wait any longer here we go..... P.S. please allow me a day or so between giving feedback on designs. But please keep submitting them. Thanks :)
Piece of mind The simple logo you came up with is really growing on me. Can you play around with it a bit more? Show me a few different fonts? Maybe make the dogs legs a little longer and the face a little narrower. I do really like the dog you made don't get me wrong. Just would like to see what else you could do with it.
Chocolate I like your second design better than the first. I do not like the font at all though. Can you keep animalactors.biz going all the way around half of it. The way the .biz sticks out I don't like. Also remember the logo will be embroidered on baseball caps, etc.
pennyln I LOVE your four colored design. But don't think it is right for the company logo. When Ms. Hope gets famous I think it will be perfect
B) The one with her with the top hat looks good but almost to much like a wanted poster. What you did for four winds is more what I am looking for. The very first design you submitted the font was great. I loved it. Just didn't like the layout.
beatz Out of the three simplified version the top and bottom ones look the best. The font is too hard to read though. Also can you please take away the red background on the bottom design and let me see what that looks like? The spotlight theme another company uses. Yours is a bit different but if you have any other design ideas I would love to see them.
Thanks again everyone. I do appreciate your assistance on this project. We will be receiving a lot of press once we launch so our logo is very important to our image.

Hi Everyone,
Like I said in my last post. I really did not have much of an idea of what I wanted in a logo. That is why I decided to hold this contest instead of hiring a design firm. Well after seeing a few designs I am starting to get a feel for what I think the direction of the logo contest should go. I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to enter so far. I have taken the logo's to the street and asked folks for their feedback ( Blockbuster, Boston Market, the local grocery store, etc)
So far there are few designs that have consistently been picked as possibilities..
In no particular order...
Alex Kogan .....Clappy
Betz.....BOTH the spotlight and camera
Piece of mind.....your last design of Ms. Hope with a star behind her
Markbeaudry.... dog in a directors chair concept
What we have figured out is that we would like a simple but unique image. One that can stand on it's own to convey what our company is about if you take away the words and web address.
We would like to thank all of the artists who have submitted so far. If your design did not come out on top so far, feel free to keep trying and submit a new one. We still are very open to suggestions and the contest still has over a week to go.
We have a few suggestions to our top four designers....
Alex Kogan .....Clappy The concept is great. You may have already tried some of the following idea's and they just won't work. But if not could we see what it would look like if you moved the dogs tongue and fit the lettering on the clapper. Also would the body look bad if it were white? One comment we got from some kids is it looks like a trash can. Can you show me what Clappy would look like on a black t-shirt and a blue-jean colored shirt or baseball cap. Thanks
Markbeaudry.... Can you simplify the whole thing? The dogs bandana would be hard to reproduce. We do like the star.
Betz.....both concepts 1.animals in a spotlight 2. animal looking camera DO convey what we our biz is. I would like it if you can show each design as a stand alone logo #2 can you get everything in the circle. Can you change the circle to a star? Or maybe a star and circle combined? The dog with cat on back is OK but feel free to try something else.
Piece of mind.....your last design of Ms. Hope with a star behind her folks really like. It is nice and simple. It does not exactly scream animal actors if you take the words away. But it is cute. If you can think of a way to improve on it go for it.
Special message to pennyln: You have really captured Ms. Hope. Please do not discard anything you have done. We do need content for her web site, publicity material, etc. I have saved your website and will contact you to do some work for us. If you want to submit another concept for this contest that would be awesome. You really have some skills.
If designers can show us what their logo would look like on a black t-shirt, white t-shirt, and a blue-jean colored shirt or baseball cap it would really help. Or on stationary, biz card, white work Van, etc We really want to know how they would look if we used them. Please try to use red, white, black and blue colors please. No gradients. Please re-read earlier post for other tips.
We hope everyone is having a great weekend. Again thanks to everyone for your help.

Chocolate I liked your first entry but it did not rank high when we showed it to people. The second one I did not really care for. If you want to keep working on the first one that is fine. Maybe take the AA off the ball to start as that was most peoples #1 thing the said should be changed. ;)
CreativeETC Your design looks like a cartoon Warner Brothers would put out. It is VERY good. Thanks for entering our contest. I have not had a chance to get any feedback on it yet as we did our survey last night. If you have any other design concepts please post them by Monday if you can. Yours and any new or modified entries that come in over the weekend I will take out to the shopping mall on Monday afternoon for opinions. I will get back to everyone on Monday night with more feedback.
I was browsing the gallery yesterday to get a feel for logos and designers. I have not made it through all of the the designers portfolios yet. So far I came across 5 that I would like to invite to enter if they have the time....

...the black t-shirt.
Personally, I don't think that lettering on the clapboard would work well on this scale, either with silkscreen or embroidery, so I haven't put it as an option.
A question about the blue shirts: do they have pockets? For if they do, you have various otpions about putting an art on it. Usually, the left breast is used to embroider/silkscreen. With shirts with pockets, you can either embroider/silkscreen on a finished piece slightly upwards from the pocket, or you can ask the people if they can take the pocket off, embroider/silkscreen it and sew it back. The first option is cheaper, but in most of the cases the art over the pocket doesn't look good. The second option - the art on the pocket, will most probably cost you some extra money, for the process is tedious.
Another option (well, a variant of the second option, actually) is to find some place where they do shirts and embroider/silkscreen them as well: these people could place the art on a fabric and then make pockets of it. Costwise, it's somewhere in between the first two options.
And the better way, IMHO, is to find shirts without pockets or with pocket only on the right side.
Cheers ;)

Hi Everyone,
Well we have been hitting the street with all the entries. Thanks 2square, Creative ETC and Chocolate for submitting your ideas over the weekend.
We do appreciate your efforts. None of your designs however came out on top :(
Here are the results so far in order of popularity....
1. Beatz your design A-1 animals with the camera is coming out on top consistently in our informal polls. Here are a couple of modifications I am requesting. Let me see the camera and animals in the circle as a stand alone logo. No words. Please stick to the blue, white, black and red. Then show it to me with no circle behind the animals and camera. Anyway I could get you to show it to me on a black t-shirt and a white t-shirt? I weare a lot of blue jean shirts (no pockets) and cowboy hats. :cowboy:
2. Markbeaudry can you take the dog in a directors chair concept and try a couple of new designs. Hope looks great but she needs sunglasses on or something. B) Or maybe use a "faceless" dog like beatz did? Show me it as a logo with no words.
3. piece of mind everyone likes the star and dog better than the spotlight. Can you make the star red please. Not off colored red but bright red. That's it.
4. Clappy is great. Thanks Alex for showing me him on t-shirts. It is a great concept. Nothing I can say to improve upon you design. Just not sure if it is the "image" we want or not. People either really love it or they hate it.
Special message to pennyln: Pennyln awhile back you came up with a couple of logo designs for a dog trainer friend of mine dogstar. I really liked the red. white and blue star with the hunting dogs face. Is it possible that you could try to modify it to enter it in this contest? :wizard:
As much as I love this little dog Ms Hope what I am seeing is the only way to really use her, is to use her likeness, like piece of mind did.
I think adding words and trying different fonts with the winning designer will be the easy part. What I really want to see now are stand alone logos with no words. If you want to throw in a version with words that is fine too.
To reiterate ....If designers can show us what their logo would look like on a black t-shirt, white t-shirt, and a blue-jean colored shirt or baseball cap it would really help. Or on stationary, biz card, white work Van, etc We really want to know how they would look if we used them.
Please try to use red, white, black and blue in bright primary colors please.
No gradients. I also need to see it in greyscale.
The whole logo when completed with words should still be intelligible when reduced to 120 pixels
It needs to work well in all media. Paper to embroidery
We will want a version of the words AnimalActors.biz on the side of the logo as well as one version with them underneith. The reason why we need them to the side is because it will be our "header" on our website. Like I said though I think the text will be the easy part. ;)
Thanks again everyone. I am gonna call it a night. I feel like I am starting to ramble. Once all of our top designer get the modifications made I will give more feedback. Ohh...still looking forward to see your entry kalvinhobs
Goodnight all....

You are so freakin funny Alex.
I think Clappy is awesome. Don't take the way I wrote my post at 3am to heart. What I meant to say was that people either love Clappy or they just don't get who he is.
I will say I like him best as a black dog. The contest isn't over till it's over. I need to see the revisions from the other designers before I can put Clappy to a fair vote.
I think Clappy is a really good dog who just acts bad because he is bored. People don't have problems with stupid dogs. It is the really smart dogs that get into trouble. Have you taught Clappy any tricks? You know like play dead, crawl, sneeze, take a bow, sit pretty, wave, or fetch?
Miss Hope does all that and more. Besides a trick dog she also a drug dog, loves to do protection/attack work, is awesome at catching Frisbees, and just started to learn tracking.
JRT can be really, really bad dogs. I get a calls everyday from someone who is at their wits end because of their jack. They respond very well to the training I do and are able to avoid going to a new home or worse....getting the blue juice. The one in the picture with me below I met on a Sunday. He was scheduled to be put to sleep 3 days later on Wed.. They decided to try my training instead thank goodness.
I was born to be an animal trainer. I love my job. You were given a great talent Alex but I can see you love your job too. ;)

Hi Everyone,
Thanks a bunch to everyone that entered our contest. I got so much more out it than I expected. We got a new logo, a new dog Clappy who will be the company mascot, and awesome folks to contact in the future ( pennyln and piece of mind) for promotional material for my dog Ms. Hope. Wow!
So here is what we want to do. Because Alex really poured his wonderful self into Clappy we would like to have Palmer award him the contest prize. Congratulations Alex & Clappy!!! Clappy will now be known as AnimalActors.biz's official mascot!
Secondly if it is OK with Frank we would like him to make a few easy modifications to the Camera design and it will become our new logo. We will award you $150 as well for your efforts. Congratulations on coming up with a winning design for us.
We are so happy with the outcome of this contest we deceided we are going to hold a template contest next month and redesign our site to really showcase our new logo and Clappy.
Take care and please stop by our site in the future and see what Clappy is up too.
