Hello everyone,
I am back, I had my company logo designed on here with great succes!
I am now volunteering on a committee trying to get a homeless youth shelter funded.
In our area there is a consistant demand for a shelter of this sort but currently is nothing at all available for youth.
This is where I could use all of your expertise. I need a logo and a hopefully a layout for business cards and letterhead.
As far as the logo goes...
The logo should obviously have a house in it and hopefully reflect a safe place to be. Keep in mind that this is going to be a place for youth ages 12-18. The committe name is Abbotsford Youth Shelter Committe. I would like a logo that incorporates the name into it. If we are successfull in our efforts the logo would more than likely be adopted by the house to.
As far as colors, I am completly open. preferrably ones that are fairly vibrant.
Oh the logo will be used on all formats, including a website, brochures, and letterhead.
As far as a deadline goes I am going to set it as a week from now (Jan 21st,2004) only because I am eager to get the website up and running as well. If need be I can extend the deadline.
I would also like some ideas for business cards and letterhead if possible.
As far as payment we are on a tight budget as we currently do not have any funding but I personally would be willing to up the regular flat rate of $20 to $40 if I can have a layout for business cards and letterhead as well.
Let me know if this is ok.
Any questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance

I  guess I didn't read the rules properly on this contest. We do not have a taxt except number as we are just starting the committee and looking for support and funding. Basically the committee is made up of a bunch of youth and social workers, police officers, and business owners (such as myself).
I already paid the funds through paypal... so I am not sure what to do now...
Palmer can you let me know what my options are.
Sorry, I have been working to hard today... must not have read things to clearly. :(

It's fine to have the contest in this forum since you will eventually have a tax exempt number.

Taking into account that this is a charity case... I am going to legthen the contest so that all of you designers can put submissions in without interferring with the better money making contests. So lets see. How about Jan 31st as a deadline
[COLOR=red][B]NEW CONTEST DEADLINE IS JAN 31ST,2004

Just me again, :)
Have been giving this logo a bit more thought, I would like to try and keep a fairly simple logo, hopefully two colors. To cut costs we might end up doing some pamphlets in B&W, so a logo that could look good in either color or B&W would be ideal.
Some other thoughts as far as design, we live in what is called the Fraser Valley, and we have a real clear view of the north side of Mt. Baker. (I'll try and get a picture of it for you all) The community is definetly urban with the surrounding areas being mostly farm land.
I'll also check out some other logos that we like and post them in here.
To be honest it is something that I don't really have and idea of what will be best suited, so I am hoping that I get a few ideas to expand my mind.
I should be able to give lots of feeback, so if anyone has any specific questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks,
Clayton

I just found this logo that I personally really like... it is for another similar organization. Might give you an idea what I have in mind... mind you I am only one member of the committee so any and all ideas will be appreciated.
Thx

Doesn't look like there is to much interest in this one... I am going to take the layout of business cards and letterhead out of the competition and make the $40 prize just for the logo...
I realize that would have been alot of work for $40... maybe I will have another competition a little later for the layout of the stationery.
I hope this sparks some interest.

Clayton, sorry for the delay...Here is a concept...I have given the house/shelter structure a human form...the slope of the roof being the protecting human-like arms. The sun/ a brighter day being the human-like head. Just let me know of any revisions you would like to make.
thanks,
Matt

Thanks for your entries !!
Mowlilng... I really like your design, the only criticism I have is that one of the other committee members said it looked kind of like a manger scene (the sun right above) I like the fact that it looks good in any color including black! Good work.
Blackspot I like the idea of yours but the roof looks a little out of place to me. I like the font you used for the text! Maybe if you could add more detail to the person and the roofline it would help.
Once again thanks for your entries

Sorry forgot to add one thing I like the idea of the house having a human form Mowling, I didn't notice it at first glance, but once you see that it makes a difference! I personally like it, I will pass them both around to the other committee members and see if they have some feeback.

ClayEvoy,
I changed the roof and added some detail to the person. Sorry but I'm not very good with a lot of detail. I also added one with less detail, one color and one with the same person but new roof in one color.
Please let me know if you would like anything else changed.

That looks better Blackspot...
psst.. there are two e's at the end of committee :)
Can we try to do one where the person is the solid and the same color as the roof?

Clayton...here it is without the sun...more of an obvious humanlikeform
thanks,

:lol2: Oops... Sorry...
I copied it from something I've read...
The logo should obviously have a house in it and hopefully reflect a safe place to be. Keep in mind that this is going to be a place for youth ages 12-18. The committe name is Abbotsford Youth Shelter Committe.
I won't tell if you don't! ;)
(I should've check my spelling)
Here is the revised version...

Ok I am really liking that one Mowling
That is the logo to beat everyone...
Mowling lets hold on that one... I want to see what other people come up with, and if you have any other ideas.
Because of the great job Mowling did, I am going to bump up the competition.
[B]NEW DEADLINE IS JAN 20th, 2004
That should give anyone working on something time to submit it. And gives me time to get the final decision from the rest of the committee
OH you caught me Blackspot it was my mistake oops
If I throw in another $20 do you think I could get the winner to do a simple layout for letterhead and business cards?

Thanks blackspot...
I think I like the one with different colors in the person the best out of yours.
I'll show both your logos and Mowlings around today and see what feedback I get.

Clayton...here is another revision without the humanlike structure.

I just noticed something Mowling, is it possible to reduce the "Youth Shelter Committee" so that it lines up with the edges of Abbotsford a little better?
As well can I see you latest ones as all one color ie black, blue, or red
Thanks,
Clayton

I just added $20 to the pot... for the winner to do a simple layout of B.Cards and letterhead.
I wish I could give more, but we don't have funding yet so this is coming out of my personal pocket book.

Thank you both for contributing your talents to this cause.

Ok I have a winner!!
It is Mowling!
The committee loved all the submissions but felt one inparticular was perfect.
The winning entry is Mowling's last entry on the 19th, and the logo on the bottom.
The one with the house with two people inside. If it would be possible to get that logo in a two color blue and yellow that would be great. They might need a simple all black one too for black and white leaflets. If I could get them in a high resolution jpeg (for internet) and a AI file for the printers that would be great.
There is some talk right now that we might need to change our committee's name due to some leagal issues and past committees.
There isn't a huge rush on things until we get the name issue figured out.
As I mentioned before there is an additional $20 if you can put a quick layout of a letterhead and business cards together to match that logo. We will pretty much go with anything you layout for that price.
I will PM you with my email address so we can discuss things further.
Congratulations Mowling!! and thank you and Blackspot for taking part in the competition! :D :notworthy:
Lets hope that we will be able to help the kids in the near future!
Clayton
Oh figured out how to do this... Here is the winning entry! :D
