Hello all,

I am posting another competition... currently have a contest in Charitable Casses for a committee I am on trying to gain funding for a homeless youth shelter.

This contest is however for my baby... my company. :)

I had a logo designed on here by Jmberra last year and it was exactly what I was looking for at the time...

However I have revised my logo due to a unexpected new direction my business has taken on over the last four or five months.

So I am looking for a design for my new business cards and letterhead. I never really had a formal layout before... and my business cards were layed out by the printer... not good lol. So hopefully you all can help.

As part of the competition I would also like the winner to clean the logo up I made... don't laugh I think it turned out pretty good... basically I just need it put into the correct color and proper format. Hopefully that is not a big deal.. .if it is let me know. The printers wanted everything saved in a AI format and the logo converted to curves... I don't know what that means...

Can someone tell me how much work I am asking for? Palmer? am I asking to much for the prize?

I will have more business for the winner in the next few weeks as I need to get a window/door decals layed out and possibly some newspaper advertisments.

The layout of the cards and letterhead I don't have a clue about... sorry. I suck at it tried to think of something myself but it was horrible. Oh the logo should be in pantone #194 on both the card and letterhead. as far as other colors I am not sure. I was thinking maybe black but the logo is fairly dark already and I don't want make it to bleak... hmmmm

The business cards, I would like them to be double sided and use our tag line " Your local, Fraser Valley, alarm company." (should be on the letterhead as well) I would also like to list our services (maybe on the back) they are: We Install and Service: Monitored and Non-monitored security systems, CCTV (cameras), Access control, Sound Systems, Home Theatre, Intercoms and more... The personal information I will have to update as I am also in the process of moving and getting an 800 #.

If you want to check out my website it is : www.cityscapesecurity.com

I will also attach the logo I made... there you go laughing again... actually I am quite proud of it... It reflects the area I am in quite well...

Any questions just shout this is generally a slow month for my industry so I will probably be able to check in regularly

Thanks
Clayton

I forgot to put a deadline on... I was hoping to get it wrapped by midle of next week so how about if I will decide the morning of Jan 22nd. Does that sound fair to everyone.

Can you provide the logo as an EPS? In order the make the logo Pantone 194 it would need to be redrawn. Right now the posted image is low-rez RGB jpeg

Just thought I would add the reverse of my logo... this one is on my intro page to my website...

I put a bit of a shadow on this one so it would stand out a bit better online.

well here it is...

Thanks for the information Elkootchoo

Unfortunately I did the logo myself and I am by no means a graphic designer. Might call myself a bit of a closet artist but definetly not on the computer. I guess I will have to get someone to redraw it for me.

That sounds like it will be a bit of work so if it is alright with DO, anyone willing to redraw it for me can you email me what you would charge and your paypal number.

Do you know what the fonts are that you used?

ClayEvoy

Elkotchoo

I believe the Cityscape was Verdana

the SECURITY SYSTEMS was Arial (I did put a space between each letter of Security Systems to space it out the proper distance)

Does that help?

ElKootcho

Yep, that helped. :D Take a gander and let me know if this is accurate enough for you.

Here are a couple cards for our consideration. The first uses 2 inks for the front and 1 for the back. The second uses 3 inks on the front and 1 on the back.

They look good Elkootcho,

I like the use of the yellow seems to give it a bit more punch.

I am leaning towards the use of the three colors in the 2nd one but having the text layout that the first does. I think the card is easier to read when things are stacked (as in the first one)

Did you have any ideas for the letterhead yet?

I should give dummie text...

That looks like a lot of information to put on there... we could drop the email address if things were getting a little cluttered, but I would prefer to have everything on there if possible.

Letterhead of course would only need the company name, address, tel #'s and website.

If anyone else is working on something I really like how Elkootcho used a third color to punch things up a bit. I want the over all look to be prfessional and of a fair size company, and the third color I think seems to do that. So if you all can keep that in mind that would be great! :D

Thanks

Elkootcho

I was just wondering if it would be possible to have a kind of watermark of my logo on the back of the card and the writing placed overtop. Does that make sense?

I like the yellow back though, I was thinking that if the white part of my logo was just a slightly lighter shade of yellow on the back it would be quite subtle behind the text. Of course I don't know anything about computers so if this is not possible don't worry about it.

Otherwise I like the back of the cards

Hiya Clayton, I squeezed in all that info and incorporated the watermark on the back. This look is sort of a mixed between the previous two looks: stacked info with curved graphic. Let me know if you'd like to see any changes.

Yah I like that Elkootcho,

can you make the watermark a little more noticeable? and I was wondering if we can try and reverse the curve on the front to see what that looks like?

But out of your designs I like the white one on the last entry the best.

Nice work!

ElKootcho

I did a little swapping around of the arches and made the watermark more noticable.

Evening Elkootcho,

Looks like you might not get any competition! :ermm:

Would be nice to have a few different perspctives... but at least from what I have seen I have one of the best on here working on my layouts... So I am not complaining.

I hate to keep asking you for changes but I was just wondering what the back would look like if it was the burgandy with white lettering and with the last watermark. And what the opposite color layout of 04 would look like. ie burgandy text with white background and burgandy background around the logo.

I like the curve going the direction that number 4 is going the best.

It is hard to tell from the images you posted but I assume the white letters on the burgandy background will still be nice and clear, will they not?

When you get a chance, can I see some ideas for letterhead too?

If I don't see any other entries or here from anyone saying they are working on something as soon as we decide on what card and letterhead of yours I like best I'll call the competition...

To everyone else... that means hurry up if you are going to enter. You might only have another day or so left.

Thanks

Clayton

I have been meaning to put something up for this, but time hasn't been cooperating. If this is still open to submissions, I would Love to throw up some ideas a bit later this evening.

Thanks,

This is the full stationary package for card number 4 above. The specs are as follows: Business card - 2 color front, 2 color back. Letterhead 2 color.

As always, let me know if you'd like to see any tweaks.

Elkootcho,

Thank you fro the extra submissions :D

I like number 6 the best for the front and definetely a yellow back, haven't decided if I like the watermark or not yet... The solid yellow seemed to make everything pop a little better.

Can I see a letterhead to match number 6?

Everyone...

Elemeno is going to put in a submission tonight so now that we have a competition going I am going to keep it open until the original deadline. :D

Incase you missed when that is it is Jan 22nd.

Thank you,
Clayton

Elkootcho,

Didn't see your post before my last one.

That letterhead would work for number 6 as well.

Do you have any ideas for a vertical style? rather than a horizontal.

I like that layout though just wondering what it would look like.

That is too bad Anne :(

Elkootcho,

I must appolagize I didnt really make myself clear I was looking for a vertical layout of the letterhead. I have seen some you and others have done in other contests that the information runs down the right hand size and was wondering what that would look like with my logo.

I do however really like the layout of the vertical card. The information seems to fit better this way.

You have put in lots of submissions thank you! There are a least three or four that I could use easily, so I don't want to waste anymore of your time on the cards. If there will be changes to the card it just be minor. ie changing text and choosing a color for the back,

I wouldn't mind seeing a different layout of the letterhead though. I like your 04 entry on crossroads contest. I think a Similar layout with my tag line under my logo would work nicely. Can you try that? or something similar?

Thanks,

Clayton.

Sorry a bit confusing my last post, forget the part I said about the right side, the layout I seem to like best is the style you did in 04 of crossroads.

My brain is mush  this morning sorry. If you can get something similar to that layout, that will be the last thing I ask of you.

I appreciate all the work you are doing in this contest Elkootcho!

Excellent Elkootcho,

Ok lets just hold on that, to see if anyone else is going to submit. I think I will probably get you to reverse the curve of the burgandy and yellow on the last letterhead, but I can get you to do that if you are the winner. I have got you to do enough work as it is.

As it stands right now, I would go with the vertical card, and the last letterhead you did, but with a reverse angle on the curve. I am still considering wether I like the yellow back or the burgandy back.

I will be finding out my new office's full address on monday, so I can update the specific text then.

Everyone else, I can understand if you don't work on weekends so I will give you sometime to get things in, but I don't think it is fair to Elkootcho to wait until thursday after all the hard work he has done. Once again I am pushing up the deadline to tuesday morning. If you think you have a winning design please have it in before tuesday morning.

Great work Elkootcho! :D

Thank you,
Clayton Evoy

That is nice Josh,

Do you have any ideas for the back if I went with a vertical card?

And I was wondering the blend of the yellow and grey looks a little stagered is there anyway to blend that smoothly? Can you try some different colors besides the yellow and grey as well? The only color that I am stuck on is the burgandy (pantone 194).

Otherwise I like the idea.

Thanks

Clayton

ClayEvoy
01-18-2004, 09:39 AM
I just printed the image up and the blend went smoother so it is probably just the net that makes it look that way. :D

As far as other colors I was wondering what some different shades of blue would look like.. maybe keep the greyish color.

Thx

Hi Elemeno.

I was just wondering if your design will print up as three colors or will the printer say it is more because of the blends?

If I go with yours I will need a little bit of jugling as to the placement of the text on the business cards.

If you are going to be putting in a revision, can I see what the letterhead would look like with the contact info at the top across from the logo?

If you haven't done so already, don't worry about coming up with a back to the vertical business card, as I have decided I like your horizontal one better anyways.

Thanks

Clayton

doh, Didn't receive a notice that you replied in my email, so I just worked up a bunch of vertical revisions for you. I'll get the revised horizontals up shortly. I will also revise the letterhead as well :)

As for the colors, these will separate out perfectly as a 3 color design. The gradients are blends of 100% - 0% so there will be no issues.

Anyways, here's what I came up with.

<img src='http://www.platypie.com/samples/cityscape/contrasting_collateral.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Business Collateral - Contrasting Colors - Pantone 194(Red), Pantone 5757(Green), Pantone Cool Grey 9

<img src='http://www.platypie.com/samples/cityscape/blueandred_collateral.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Business Collateral - Blue and Red - Pantone 194(Red), Pantone 540(Blue), Pantone Cool Grey 9

<img src='http://www.platypie.com/samples/cityscape/bright_collateral.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Business Collateral - Bright - Pantone 194(Red), Pantone 5757(Green), Pantone 115 (Yellow)

Thats what I got so far. Let me know if any of those do anything for you. I'll get back here within the hour with the horizontal card and the letterhead with that change. Also, if you do decide to go with mine, I have no problem making minor changes after the fact.

ClayEvoy

Elemeno,

Elemeno,

Thanks for the latest entries.

Unfotunately they were not the direction of change that I was looking for. I liked the placement you originally had of the burgandy down the bottom and the grey at the top, what I was looking for was to replace the yellow color with a few different shades of blue.

Sorry, I must not have explained myself properly... sometimes it is hard to actually describe what I have swirling around in my mind

I think that I am going to like the yellow and burgandy the best anyways so don't spend to much time on the revising it. Your latest blue entry kind of gives me an idea of what it would have looked like anyways.

I will be showing yours and Elkootcho's entries to friends and business colleagues tomorrow afternoon, and will have a decision first thing on tuesday morning.

Thank you,

Clayton

Hello again, :D

I know it isn't tuesday morning yet, but I decided to make my decision tonight as I finally was able to come up with one. And it was a hard decision to make... Both my final picks of each Elkootcho and Elemeno could easily have been used.

But unfortunately I have to choose one, and although I really appreciate all the hard work Elkootcho put in on this contest, I am going to go with Elemeno's. His first entry with the yellow, burgandy and grey really caught my attention and from all the feedback I got from friends and colleagues, it is exactly what I am looking for.

Congratulations Elemeno!! :D

I might have a few minor changes but nothing to much. I have to get my new office's address tomorrow, so I will forward you the specifics and any revisions tomorrow afternoon.

Once again another successful competition! Thanks everyone.

Clayton
