Just checking to see if there are any 3D animators or the possibilty for that service through DO.

At what standards Maya or Swift 3D?

I have some animators that have applied but we haven't had a need for them yet. We do have some that are skilled in Flash animation. If there was a need we would definately send out some invitations to those qualified to complete the project.

I have seen some of the great Flash animations on the site, I definetly plan to use that feature soon, however I was leaning more towards the Maya or LightWave 3D.
Basically the finished product would just need to be something I can insert into an AVID or Director project. So if the designer could create what I needed, I really don't care what program its created in, as long as I could drop it into an AVID and/or Macromedia Director (Flash would work for that!)

Palmer, if I wanted to start a contest for this, do you think we should put out some feelers to those who had applied, or would I need to deposit the money and start a contest just to see what happens. I would get the money back if nobody joined the contest, correct?

I'm just planning ahead for a project coming up. I love DO and thought I would see if I could utilize you guys!

Thanks,
Jaxon

Yes, I'll do some groundwork and report back to you in this thread. You are correct, if no one enters you will get a refund.

Greetings,

Thanks for the heads up on this thread, Palmer.

Jaxon, I am a Lightwave animator (although I do use many other tools to get the job done). If Palmer can find some other animators to compete, you just might have a venue for a future contest or two.

I'll be watching this thread too!

I will be searching through my applications for the term animation or words similar and I'll see if I can find others. Lee, you mentioned in your email about drumming up interest from fellow animators. Drum away :D Let them know to apply for membership on the team and I will look at their portfolio.

Just out of curiosity, would these be mpegs or Flash or .mov or what?

Ok, Palmer. I will ask around. Will keep the thread posted.

I believe they can be all of those. I am not sure exactly what Maya or LightWave can put out for a file type, but Flash would work in some applications.

I personally could use all in different applications: mpeg, .mov for AVID editing, and Flash in website and CD-ROM applications.

Lee do you have an answer to this? What format do you save these in?

You bet!!

I have heaps of experience with 3D animation, using 3Ds max (over 6 years).

have a look at my website to view some previous work.

3d animation can be produced in many different formats: MPG, MOV, SWF, AVI, GIF...

I have an interesting question.

I have the technical drawings for a boat, as well as lots of photos. The boat is a RIB and can actually be seen in my avatar :)

I would like a 3d model of this created so I could look in/around the boat, spin it etc.

how much would something like this cost? Ballpark figure is fine.

thanks

Can't really make out the boat in your avatar, but a couple of other things whcih are required before ballpark figure.

How detailed do you require the model to be?

Would the model be used in real-time visualisation, if so, using what engine?

Does the model need to include textures(realistic finish)?

Does the interior of the boat need to be modelled?

:)

Here are some more pictures of the boat.

That should give you an idea what the boat looks like, and as you can see its an open boat, so some level of detail will be required for whats in the boat.

Textures, im not sure, not really as long it has the right colours that would be fine.

I have the technical drawings that were used to build the boat, so the scale of the drawings is accurate.

As for what engine, im open to suggestions.

Originallly we wanted to have the boat drawn with a 3d cad programme like solidworks. This has the ability to output the file for web. We can then spin, rotate, flip and zoom into the boat. however we havent found anyone who could do it for us.

I hope that gives you a better idea, the idea is to show people the boat and let people have a look around it!. I suppose it could be done with flash, and people could move around the boat, when they hover over things a pop up can tell them what that area actually is?

You will also notice that there is a tractor and trailer that the boat launches from, we are planning to get these done at some point too, the trailer will be easy, and so would the tractor as it would just be the outside of the tractor.

I can get lots and lots of photos from all angles too if that would help?

I've seen several pictures of that boat and it rarely touches water. I think they call that an airplane where I come from :D

WOW!!! that looks like fun.

Well...I'm interested in the project, and can offer the services needed (including the interactive components. As far as creating the model from the draft pictures, that's perfect, couldn't ask for anything more.

Couple more questions though:

- Will the project be displayed online, ore in a CD-ROM format?

- Is there a particular deadline for the creation of the model?

- Wil the model be reuired for any other purposes, I.e. video displays etc?

I AM leading to offer a ball park figure on this, however, to do so, it really requires some mre info and understanding of the purposes of the model.

I've seen several pictures of that boat and it rarely touches water It does spend a lot of time in the water too, but they dont make such good photos :) As an emergency service (totally manned by volunteers) we do everything possible to get to the rescue, if that means hard, flying boat rides then we get on with it :)

- Will the project be displayed online, ore in a CD-ROM format?
Online mainly, might be put on CD in the future, but there are no plans at present

- Is there a particular deadline for the creation of the model? No, the project has been ongoing for ages, more reasons for that below.

- Wil the model be reuired for any other purposes, I.e. video displays etc?Not sure, probably not.

To put you in the picture, the boat above is Aberystwyth Lifeboat and we are Part of the RNLI, you can read more of what we do at this link www.aberystwythlifeboat.org.uk . The RNLI and all the lifeboat stations around the UK are managed, crewed and run by volunteers.
The station I volunteer at is the aberystwyth one, and I am rebuilding our website as it is now looking dated. As I mentioned above we are volunteers and are funded entirely by voluntary donations. All money the station has go back into the boat, boathouse and saving lives at sea.

I am looking to expand the basis of my business and offer better services and I am thinking of using the virtual boat as an example of my work, and also to add something unique to the lifeboat website. It would benefit the lifeboat site, and also be a good example of work my company can do. (anyone who works with me on this project, will automatically get all the 3d, virtual work we get and I am looking to start a good relationship with you guys through DO.) So the project would be paid for out of my own pockets, which is why I am just looking at a ballpark figure at present.

I hope that makes sense and clears stuff up for you all.

Yeah, sorry hotnuts21, I posted a reply, stating I was gonna be out of town but it would seem it was deleted for some reason. I'll try to get you something by Monday. :)

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Nothing was deleted. I would have a record of that. It may of been that you clicked preview reply instead of add reply. If you're used to using phpBB, the buttons are reversed.
