Hi everyone,

Now that we have a logo, our attention turns to having some stationery designed.

We need someone to design for us a business letterhead & 2 business cards (the 2 cards will be identical except for the personal details).

The letterhead & cards must match the following dimensions:

Letterhead - A4 (210mm x 297mm) with 3mm bleed & Full Colour
Business Cards (89mm x 54mm) with 3mm bleed & Full Colour on both sides

We will provide some dummy text for use during the design process, and the winning designer will be given the real information to input into the design once the contest is over.

For the business cards, the dummy text is as follows:

-------------------------------------------------

We have attached our logo (actually logos - there's 2) to this posting. What we would like for the business cards is to have the logo with the tagline "Hospitality Employment" on the front of the card with all the other info, and the 2nd logo (the dark background with our url) on the other side, perhaps just by itself taking up the whole side of the card.

For the letterhead we would like to use the logo with the tagline (the logo with the white background).

So there you have it. We are looking forward to seeing some more excellent work.

The deadline for the contest is 8th Feb 2004. :)

Ok, so the file that we tried to attach didn't make it. :(

We will contact Palmer to see how we can get the logo files posted. Until then just try to imagine what our logo looks like :lol2:

Do you have a particular file format that you require these to be delivered as?

gdin2
01-29-2004, 11:28 PM
Hi Mike,

As for file types, the people who will be printing the cards and letterheads told us that they prefer "press ready PDF files" -whatever that means. They also said that they can print from .ai or .eps files. I guess we would like the winning designer to provide multiple file formats if that is not to much of a hassle.

Cheers

elkootcho - Thanks for your submission. Of the 'fronts' we like designs 1 & 2. Is it possible to see design 1 with a little more colour? We just feel it needs something to make it stand out a little more.

In design 2 could we see the blue of the logo's icon worked into the card also?

As for the 'backs', we like A & C. They both look cool. We are leaning more towards design C at the moment, but as we said they both look good.

Thanks

elkootcho - Of the two sets of designs we like stationary set 1 the most. The card front in set 1 is cool, but is it possible to have the colours on the side of the card with the gradient effect as in the logo icon? As for the back of the card we prefer the design of set 2.

The letterhead of set 1 is good. Again could we see it with a gradient effect in the colours on the side of the design? We wondered how it would look if the logo where centred at the top rather than to the right.

Also (and I hope we don't sound to demanding) would it be possible for us to see a letterhead design similiar to set 1, but with the information (dummy text) appearing at the top of the document (either to the side of, or below the logo) rather than at the bottom of the document?

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Just trying to drum up some interest in our contest. Elkootcho has done a fine job thus far, but we feel that in the interest of competition it would be nice to see others entering the contest as well.

Cheers

Ask if your printers if they will accept Corel, TIF or PSD formats (most will - what they've stated is probably just a preference). If they do I'm sure you'll have at least a few more entries! <img src='http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~eeqip/smil3y/eaglethumb.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

The printer will accept Corel & TIF file formats. Hope this encourages more designers to have a go with our contest.

Also -

Our printer will accept PSD file formats, so if anyone wishes to use that type of file in our contest they can.

Elkootcho - Hi & thanks for the revised design. We looked over it and have decided that it looked better the way it was before (with the solid colours). As for the back of the business card, we definitely like that shown in stationary set 2, so could we see the card with that design on the back?

If you feel like it (and have any new ideas & have the time to) please feel free to play around with the stationary design. As we said in an earlier post, perhaps you could try a design with the dummy text at the top of the document.

Thanks

elkootcho - Splitting the dummy text between the top & bottom of the page doesn't seem to work for us. We reviewed everything you have submitted thus far and have decided which elements we definitely wish to keep in this design. They are:

*The design for the back of the card (design c).
*The design for the front of the card (design 1) which does not have the coloured lines on the right hand side. We would like to get rid of the coloured lines on the letterhead too.
*The icon imbedded (is that the right term for it) in the background of the letterhead, but perhaps a bit darker to make it a bit more noticeable.
*The logo centered at the top of the page
*Dummy Text at the bottom of the page

Since you are the only person who has entered the contest, do you have any other different ideas that we could look at in the interest of making a comparison. It is very hard for us to know how much we like a particular style or design if we have nothing to make comparisons with. Sorry if we sound like we are nagging :)

Also we have attached with this post some examples of letterhead styles we like.

Thanks for keeping this contest moving, we really do appreciate your efforts.

Attention All Designers:

In the hope of encouraging more submissions from the talented design team, we have decided to extend our contest. The new deadline is:

Monday 16th February 2004

We understand fully that the success of the DO site has made you all very busy people, so hopefully this extra time will give some of you a chance to consider submitting designs in our contest.

Hi ElKootcho. We are happy with stationery set five, however we really like the line across the top of stationery set seven. Could we possibly see set five with the line of set seven incorporated? Just a quick question, we see that you have made the VH symbol that is imbedded in the background of the letterhead darker, but has this also been done to the one on the business card? If it hasn't could that one be made a bit darker as well? Thanks.

Hi Gloria,

Thank you for the invite to participate here. Please find my submission below. You mentioned in your initial post that there needs to be a 3mm bleed on the letterhead and business card. Is this set in stone? If you were to go with a full bleed, I'd be able to get a bit more creative design-wise with the placement of the faux watermark.

BTW/ what are the dimensions of the envelope and note pad (if you intend to include one in your collateral)?

Let me know what you think. I'll be glad to make any changes you'd like to see.

Thank you, B)

Per the initial request the contest is for letterhead and business cards. No request has been made for envelope or note pad layouts.

Hi everyone,

Sorry for not responding to your postings sooner.

With David raising the issue of having an envelope and note pad to match the letterhead and business cards, we have decided to alter the contest a little. We would now like to ask for an envelope to be added to the stationery we originally asked for (thus we now want a letterhead & business cards & envelope). We did not include it in the original contest posting because we were unsure as to what type of envelope we required. Having looked in to it, we now know that we would like a full colour DL size envelope (110mm x 220mm).

Of course we will be contacting Palmer immediately to increase the prize of our contest to $100.

Another issue raised by David was the 3mm bleed vs Full bleed in the design. We spoke with our printers and the have told us that although the do prefer the 3mm bleed, full bleed is also accepted and poses no real issues for them. Thus if you wish to use full bleed in your design please do so.

And now to comment on your designs:

Elkootcho – Thanks for the new designs. We appreciate all you efforts. As it stands at the moment we like your designs in Set 8 and Set 9. For the moment we don’t wish to see any further alterations to Set 8 (except the addition of an envelope), but could we see the business card in Set 9 with the dark logo design on the back? We must confess to liking the back of the card in both the dark design and the white design and we are having difficulty deciding which we prefer.

Again sorry about not having specified the need for an envelope at the start of the contest. We really didn’t think we would be adding to the contest after it started. Hope this doesn’t cause you too much hassle.

Dbenton25 – Hi David and thanks for your submission. As far as the business card is concerned, we would prefer it if all the information (dummy text) appeared on the front of the card. We would like the back of the card to just show the logo and our URL in a stylized manner. The bottom of the letter head you designed is good, however we think the letterhead overall is a little plain. Now that you can use full bleed please feel free to make creative changes as you see fit.

As for the envelope, we were thinking of just having the logo at the top left hand corner and our mailing address directly under it. Of course we would like any envelope design to match the feel of the rest of the stationery, so feel free to experiment.

Thanks

Gdin2 :)

Depending on the capabilities of your printer you may be able to have the entire flap printed as shown.

ElKootcho - Envelope 3 looks really good :) We emailed our printer and are awaiting a response as to whether they can print it like that. Stationery Set 13 is coming along well. Here are some suggestions for alterations to that set.

Could we see Set 13 with the dark colour (from the background of the logo) as the colour at the top & bottom of the letterhead? As for the card, is it possible to change the arrangement of card so that the tab at the top is on the right hand side of the card like on the letterhead. Also could the logo move to the left of the card, with the dummy text being placed over the watermark?

Thanks

ElKootcho – Although we like the design of envelope 3, the cost of printing that design is a little too high. Could we see a redesigned envelope 3 without the coloured flap? We like where the logo and dummy text are positioned, but could we see a water mark added or perhaps the dark coloured lines as on the letterhead.

Thanks,

Gdin2

ElKootcho

We have decided to go with the envelope from Set 11 and the card and letterhead from Set 13 with the following changes:

• The coloured tabs on the top & bottom of the letterhead to be the same colour as that on the business card (I.e. the dark colour from the logo background).
• We wish to change the job titles on the business cards, and this may affect the card layout. One of the cards will have the job title ‘Operations Manager’, the other will have the title ‘Client Services Manager’. Hopefully this won’t cause too many problems with the card design.

Here is the real information for the cards:
