"ELEVATE" - is now the name for our student-led church service for teenagers 13-18. We have a separate service for teens on Sunday mornings and havn't had a name for it to help identify our purpose and vision. We've finally gotten around to naming our service and need a logo to help students to identify with it on our web and in print.
The name and logo should communicate our purpose and vision.
We chose the name because of it's definition:
Elevate, v.
To move (something) to a higher place or position from a lower one; lift.
To increase the amplitude, intensity, or volume of.
To promote to a higher rank.
To raise to a higher moral, cultural, or intellectual level.
To lift the spirits of; elate. See Synonyms at lift.
This seems to explain exactly what it is we are trying to do which is to:
“Move students from where they are to where God wants them.”
Elevate Christ in worship
Elevate our faith through the Word and teaching
Elevate each other through encouragement
Elevate our commitment to Christ through making life changing decisions.
Elevate our influence on friends and community by committing to a 412 life (see 1 Timothy 4:12 - speech, life, love, faith and purity).
Other great logos I've gotten done here will help you understand our look. Hopefully I won't be let down by the great design team at DO.

On the web you'll find the following description of ELEVATE (this name has not yet been made public):
Do you think church is boring? Well, not anymore. We know you like your music loud and we know you like to hang out with your friends. And we know you want to hear a message that actually matters to your life. So, add that all together and you get a Sunday morning student worship service to meet your needs. It's great music led by our [412] Student Band and an interesting message from our student pastor that will not put you to sleep. Join almost 100 students every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM for this encounter with God for students by students.
I look forward to what you all come up with.

Here are two concepts for your consideration.

Thank you all for the start.
MOZ - nope, sorry.
Mowling - yep! something along that line. Here's a link to "Element" skate board company's logo for further inspiration. I like an edgy skate board look. I think the arrow needs to be more abstract and edgy like the logo below. Kind of tatoo art like. I like the concept though.

SBDesign - sorry - I can't see your images. I'm not sure why not, but they aren't appearing. I'd like to see what you've done though.

David...here is a new concept...I created an arrow with a human type figure...moving upward. Let me know what you think.
thanks,

I used this "guy" in another contest. I just figured he'd fit in nicely here. Let me know what you think.

Blackspot - sorry my fellow Floridian, not the look.
Mowling - I like the changes. Here's some suggestions on the logo:
Please thicken up both circles and have 3 broken sections in the outer cirlce (since "element" has four, I will have 3 broken lines symbolizing the trinity - Father, Son, Spirit) & also symbolizing our purpose statement - elevate Christ in worship, your faith through teaching the Word and each other through encouragement.
I don't know if I like the little head circle at top or not but instead of the arms falling down, having them lifted up as in "worship" to God. Two ways to go on this one:
1) more abstract, drop the head and leg and just have double lines angled up from center
<or>
2) stay with the more literal person - thicken lines, lift up arms, leave head and leg.
also, the "L" in "element" looks like an "I"
You are right on though and this has the edgy feel I want especially with the font change to the distressed look. However, I would need one with distressed look font and another with a solid font for those vector based sign guys who hate weeding and masking such minute pieces of vinyl. If you think you can keep working with me on this one with these final touch ups, I'm ready to declare a winner. Thanks,
David

Sure I will work with you ;) I was going to show you one without the distressed text. I know exactly what your talking about with the weeding...I design for a sign company & our production guys would kill me if I handed them that to be weeded...anyways I will try and get you those revisions tomorrow.
thanks,

Oops, I don't think I communicated clearly. Not quite the changes I wanted. Let's just call you the winner and then work on revisions in the forum for that. I have some changes that need to be made though - O.K.??

O.K. great! when I said:
I don't know if I like the little head circle at top or not but instead of the arms falling down, having them lifted up as in "worship" to God.
I didn't mean to make the stick figure more realistic.
actually what I mean is make it look just like the element logo but have the lines on angles up instead of down. I like the line thickness to be consistant.
When I said to make three breaks in the outer circle, I didn't mean make them the same length around the cirlce. I liked your first design with 5 small sections on the bottom third of the outer circle. Make it with 3 small sections on the outer circle all at the bottem third of the circle, so from 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock make it solid and from 4 o'clock to 8 o'clock have 3 small sections just like you did before but with only 3.
Also, I just noticed that the arrow logo in the element logo is 2 "E's" back to back for an E - for element. We need not copy the element logo, but makin the arrow figure in the middle to have the appearance of an E would be awesome.
I hope this makes sense. if not, I'll just draw it out and scan it in as a document and then let you see it. let me know if that will help some.

Don't laugh - but here's a quick example I manipulated the element logo in Paint. It explains the three bottom breaks and the arrow lines which are now pointing up (arms). they are just for example and you don't have to copy it but maybe some thing like that - it looks like an E also.

Hey thanks. Lot's of work for $25 but I appreciate it. I inverted the 'element' log to see if that would look better (not too sure about my creation). I think this might look better (as long as you don't think it's too close for copyright reasons). LMK
Thanks,
Dave

p.s. - I'd like to just see the logo in larger format like you see on my website.
Thanks again.

Dave...here is the graphic enlarged...I flipped the trinity-section so that it will be less like the other logo.

Thanks,
Actually, the original "element" logo has the broken lines on top, so mine would need to be on the bottom to avoid too much like copying. I may have confused you by flipping the image on my website. I'm going crazy - You'll see what I mean when you look at my site again. Don't worry about doing anything right now, let me think on it a day and then we'll make a final decision. Thanks,
David

Mowling,
Here's my final final final logo idea (after showing it to a teenager):
<img src='http://www.gobrower.com/elevatefinalcopy.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
This one has an arrow pointing up, a cross, the negative red around arrow and cross look like an "e" and there are 5 small red spaces in the top outer circle that symbolize 5 words in our purpose statement. can't beat that symbolism. Let's go with it looking like this.
Thanks for your patience and diligence, but this is it!! Yeah!
David.
Remember - one solid for vector guys, then one distressed look will be great. I like the different configs, but I would like to be able to separate the logo from the text part as well. Also, if it's not too much trouble - I like to have one with a clear background.
Thanks - it will be awesome!

Great! dave@new-community.org
I think I should really put the breaks of the outer circle on the bottom half so as not to copy "element" so much. What do you think??? I hate to be such a pain.
Thanks a bunch

Have you had a chance to get me those files yet? I've been out a couple of days and haven't checked my E-mial, so disregard if you have already sent them.
