I admit I'm still a beginner when it comes to logos. One of my biggest problems is deciding what colors to use. I usually just try to put two together that look right in my eyes. Do you guys have a pallette you work with? How do you decide what colors go with what?

I use the pantone color chart to pick my colors for logos. I use spot colors when I design a logo under 4 colors. It saves cost to the client when its printed and it also gives you the true color, beyond the computer screen. You can get some more info on that at http://www.pantone.com. After that its between you and the client on what colors you chose. Most corporations that I have designed for already have their corporate colors. Otherwise just use your own judgement on color combinations. B)

Colours aren't really my strongest point  But usually I try and use
- something light and something dark (same hue though)...
- Two totally different colours, i.e. Orange and Blue
- Three colours, two similar, and one to stand out.
And a few other combos...
Pantones are great to look at if the logo is for print :)
on a side-note - Adam P. has excellent sense of colour :D - I hope he lets us know what his secret it ;)

I design different stuff, but I refer to a book called 'Color Theory' often. Learn the basics, and refer to the color wheel all the time.

Agreed. A simple color wheel from any art store can be a great help.
Color Theory was one of the few college courses I took that I felt like I actually learned something in.
I could have been the teacher for the rest of them.

I find good inspiration at the Pantone website: www.pantone.com
I also like working with tints off of a main color....or making a gradient with two colors...and then use the "inbetween colors" to come up with some new palettes.
