(Admin code added by Palmer - 1199207)
I need a t-shirt design for a Girl Scout Campout. The theme for the campout is: Dive in to Eagles Nest. I am looking for an underwater view.
Elements needed: an Eagle (preferably diving into water or swimming underwater), the words "Dive in to Eagles Nest" (can be formatted as "Dive in to...Eagles Nest"), the year "2004", and water.
I have attached a rough idea provided by my customer. It is just an idea they had and it does not need to be replicated. It does show their concept.
The artwork needs to be limited to 6-7 spot colors in vector format (either Adobe Illustrator 8.0 or below or a .EPS file containing vector information).
Thank you,
Robin DeRouen

Hi! My concept for this T-shirt design. More details (feathers of the eagle, water bubbles etc..) can as well be added. Looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks, this is a great start. Some things that are needed: underwater scenery (treasure chest, fish, bubbles, seaweed) and oddly enough, a happy eagle (or at least not mean or angry looking). The "2004" can be made small to leave room for scenery. It looks like there are currently 5 colors (yellow, black, white, brown and blue) so a couple of more colors can be added.
Thanks again for the design and the quick response.

...there may be more details in the underwater scene.
It's 7 plain colors (no gradients, nor shades, for I was not sure if the media you're going to print it is gradient-tolerant).
Comments are welcome :D

Not to speak for the contest holder... but since I work as an artist at a screen printing shop ....
If the design is going to be screen printed, halftones/gradients of a color still counts as a single color and can be used. Also, it'll prolly help the folks who are printing it if you make sure you are using PMS colors. :)
Hope that helps folks who are entering.
(LOVE the design Alex)

Liz,
some sillkscreen houses (in my experience) can do halftones, some can not or are limited to a specific tone (like 30% or something) due to their process specifics. Well, actually, most of them can do it, but anyway :) In my case, I just didn't want to risk so I left halftones on the shore. Maybe, just overreacting ;)
Also, the silkscreen is the obvious choice when it comes to relatively cheap impressions, but 7 colors isn't exactly cheap. So who knows if they are going to make a transfer sheets or something... And I know too little about transfers to tell you the truth :D I think they support halftones, though. Do they?
(and hey, thanks ;) )
Cheers!

You guys (and gals) are amazing! This is the first time that I've use DesignOutpost, but it sure won't be the last. I'm relatively new to the promotional products business, but my volume is building. I'm getting more people interested in new t-shirt designs, company logos, etc. Hopefully, I can be a continous source of new opportunities for you.
Thanks.

I have submitted all of the options to the group that will be deciding on the artwork. They will be meeting the first week of March. I should be able to pick a winning design at that point and request any modifications that the committee wants. Don't you just LOVE art by committee? If anyone was planning on submitting another entry, it needs to be in by next week.
Thanks,
Robin

Alex,
The committee met and your design was the closest to what they are looking for, but they have not yet committed to the design. They mentioned some things that they would like to be different before committing.
1) The would like to eliminate the border around the design
2) They want the fish styled more like in "Finding Nemo" and without the surprised look.
3) They would like a couple of more fish, similar to the original hand-drawn design.
4) They would like to see a castle in the background.
Thanks for the hard work - I think the design you submitted is amazing. If it were my choice, I would have taken it without changing a thing.

Hi there, Robin :)
Thanks for the feedback and I have a question for you: do you still want to see entries from other designers or are you declaring the winner? If latter, the thread will be moved to the Revisions Forum for private work between the winner and the Contest Holder. If you still want to see other entries - I'll give the guys a heads up :)

Sorry that I took so long to reply - I was expecting to get an email notification when a message got posted.
This is where it stands:
Of the entries that are posted, Alex and Ladylumini's entries are the favorites. I think the changes that I told Alex about would get us closer to getting signoff on that design. For Ladylumini, they like that the design is closer to the original, but the lack of bright colors and the "sad" motif keep it from being their choice.
I don't really want to ask people to submit new designs, but I can't declare a winner because they haven't said "We'll take this design with X changes".
Here's where I would like to go with it for now:
Alex, in addition to the other changes, could you do a version with the eagle's wings pulled to the side like in my original post?
Ladylumini, would it be possible to "happy up" your design - add color and have the characters look happy?
We need to have a decision before March 25th.
Thanks for all your work.
Robin

Hi, Robin :)
Here's the corrections. It's kind of hard to figure the fishes in the original hand-drawn sketch, so I sort of made them generic :) I removed the border, but had to leave a thin line around the underwater scene.
I'll try to draw an eagle with wings pulled, but It's somewhat difficult to make him an "eagle" with wings like that. I remember, when I started working on the design, I had to discard the pose because I just couldn't make him look enough like eagle.

Greetings Robin!
We have just recently joined the Design Team of DesignOutpost. Is it too late to submit an entry? Can we still have an entry on/before March 25, 2004? Please verify. I will be asking the members of Graphics Design Team of Castlemelody to cook up something if it is still ok.
Thank you very much!

Hi all,
The deadline is getting close. The committee is meeting again on the evening of 3/25. They would like to choose a design at that time. Alex - I have submitted your revision to them. Julia - If you have a chance to submit a revision, that would be great.
I think I have a logo design job coming up for a Swimming School. I will post it as soon as I get a commitment from my customer.
Thanks again,
Robin

The committee meeting was delayed until Wednesday evening (3/31). Is there any way that you can get an update done?
