(Admin code added by palmer - 6YD45Y)

Hello again. I am in need of another design. Julie Tiedens designed a great logo for me and now I need to advertise. I need a design for print. The design I am looking for is a man (cartoonish) holding up the logo with a little sweat coming from his forhead. In a bubble caption, it should say, "Check these guys out!" Creativity is always welcome. If you think of something that is more interesting to the eye, I am open to any ideas. I would also like the advertisers' logos to go around the ad.

Thanks.

I have attached the forum logo and all logos to go underneath or around the design.

I will upload all advertiser's logos tommorro.

Also, what dimensions will the ad be and is there a preferred file format?

It is a quater page verticle ad: 4 7/8" X 3 3/8. I know nothing about formats. I just submitted another ad to the magazine and I believe I sent them in Jpeg and that was fine.

Deadline for the contest is 3 weeks. 2/27/04

I'll try and work something up for this. Do you have any copy prepared for the ad or do you simply want the "check these guys out..." line?

Is this ad black & white or color?

lawnforum2sanke
02-12-2004, 02:13 AM
I have nothing as far as copy and it should be in color. I figure a little cartoon guy with a white caption (whatever you call it) with the words in it.

If it is money, I will throw a little more into the mix. I went down the list and found something comparable to this. It was $40, so I added $10 more to it.

I appreciate it Mike!

Hello Coxy,

I don't understand why you are so confused. I thought I explained enough and the design is simple enough.

What purpose of the design and what will it achieve? It is a magazine print ad and will advertise the web site.

Well, it was just that whilst I was (trying) to draw a decent looking guy, I was thinking that I dont see any meaning behind what I was doing. How does a guy with a little bit of sweat coming from his face saying "Check these guys out!" mean anything to your company or any of the sponsors...

Now, it might be blatently obvious why, and I might've just missed it.

I just thought that if it were the case that there was no apparent relevance, that you'd get more of a response to the competition if it was just an open "I'd like an advert to promote my company. Post your ideas/concepts."

And besides, my drawing of the guy was crap.

Sorry if it seems I'm "stepping out of line" or anything - I'm sure Palmer would have a word if I were. But I just thought it will help you get more of a response to your competition. :)

Palmer
02-14-2004, 05:20 AM
The lack of response has nothing to do what she is asking for, it's simply that we do not have as many designers that specialize in print material and illustration. I know a lot of the designers are opposed to using clip art so asking for an illustration in addtion to the rest of the requirements is why the response is limited, not because of what she was asking to have done regarding the sweaty guy. :)

Just a funny little cartoon with a guy having a hard time holding up the logo.

DesignGeneral

I'll try to come up with something here... :)

AlexKogan
02-14-2004, 07:41 PM
A question to the Contest Holder:
the guy is having hard time holding the logo, this part I get clearly. Now, do you want him to be "tired but happy" (which would bring to the picture the positive charge that Coxy was looking for), or do you really want the guy to have the hardest time in his life? :) As a designer, I wouldn't recommend the latter, for it would put your logo in a rather negative atmosphere ;)

Anyway, I'll try to put something tomorrow.

P.S. Note: a "design simple enough" is relative, for, as Palmer said, it includes an illustration, and an illustration, even a small one, takes time to draw it (including various sketches), scan it, trace it and then combine it seamlessly with the logo. And it's then, after all this, where the layout work or the "design for print" work itself comes. Think time, think money... Very few will consider it a favorable inversion of time. :(

I was just thinking of a funny little cartoon. How about a guy just holding up the logo?

There shouldn't be any (legal) problems using clipart.

It's just (usually) illegal to use clipart as part of a company logo....(check the small print) ;)

My concept:

MOZ
02-15-2004, 02:07 AM
Hello
Attached you'll find a few samples that I think gets your point across.
I do ads daily for several newspapers in California, and what I think is that you made your description perfect on what you wanted, however most ad people need a little more of the story to help us see the finished product. It's kinda like telling a joke..two penguins went into a bar...and NOT letting us have the punchline ;)
I hope this helps. All images are clipart (all legal to use..I read the small print) They can be tweaked and or used as a reference for the illustrators out there!

enjoy

PS- I love the two in the lower right corner!

No layout, just the illustration. Hey, is the format horizontal or vertical? Half page is usually horizontal....

lawnforum2sanke
02-15-2004, 08:38 AM
Alex,

The add would be vertical. It's going to be a 1/4 page ad. BTW, I really like that!!!!

Instead of advertiser's logos, can we have something that says, "The Green Industry's best place for the Landscape Professional" ?

lawnforum2sanke
02-16-2004, 05:41 AM
You guys/gals are good! I actually like a background. I kinda like Alex's guy, cause he looks like he cuts grass. lol The lettering for "The Green Industry's best place for the Landscape Professional" is better.

Lawn-Tek
02-16-2004, 05:54 AM
Cos, Alex's #4 is awesome. The sun adds to the reason why he is sweating. Kinda gives the impression that it is very hot outside. Us landscapers can relate to that.

By the way is the Café closed today for presidents day :) I can't get it to load. I received the email the other day stating that you were switching servers soon, but you said it shouldn't effect us members.

That's a nice design. I am leaning towards a more cartoonish guy.

Alex,

Can you put a little blue above his right boot and make the pants match the left leg? The left boot looks okay, but the right looks awkward.

I will be honest. I am leaning towards Alex's right now, but I am open to anything that may sway my opinion. The cartoonish character is what I am looking for. What I like about it is that the guy looks like he is in the sun and the look of sunburn and sweat draws attention to that fact.

Somebody could sneak one in and take it.

AlexKogan

Opps, I'd already prepared it to sending... :D Tomorrow will add the web address :)

As for the other images - it would be a work apart from this contest, I'd have to charge you per image  But I would be glad to help ;)

It could be me, but the one pant leg looks longer than the other.

It's called "perspective" :D The "shorter" leg is farer than the longer one :) If you want them to be of the same length - no problem, just say so :)

Cheers! ;)
