(Admin code added by Palmer - K856754R)
Geek To Me is a computer consulting type operation that provides tech support (the geeks) to users at their homes (or small business').
I would like the logo to have a symbol that can be used separate from the text.
The logo needs to be vector based since it is going to go on everything (I hope :D ) It will need to be reproduced on letterhead / forms, color and b/w print advertising, vinyl vehicle lettering and embroidered clothing. I am leaning toward orange and blue as the main colors.
I would prefer the end result to be in a layered PSD file with at least the font listing that you used.
Geek To Me will appeal to home computer users that want deskside tech support in their homes at a convienent time for them. The typical home pc user is easily lost in tech speak, and Geek To Me will strive to unravel the tech talk, and provide superior service to quickly solve their problems. Additionally we'd like users to keep us in mind for their computer needs because in their minds "It's All Geek To Me".
For a starting point... I really like the "geek" in Gladding's Geek Scripts logo contest (if you saw me, you would understand!)
The Prize is $60, I'd like to wrap this up by 3/21 but that is not a hard date. You folks do some great work, and I'm excited to see what comes!
For your conveience, I've cropped out the "Geek" from Gladding's post and added it below (I hope that's ok?! )

Thanks for the contest. :) Yes it's fine that you cropped that part of his logo as long as the design team uses it as a reference, and not copy it. It is the property of Gladding and would be considered illegal to have someone else use it without his permission.

Is there a particular reason that you would like this as a PSD file? With so many possible applications (Letterhead, vehicle, clothing, etc.) you would be MUCH better off with a vector file (i.e. Illustrator or Corel Draw) since vector art scales smoothly with no loss of reproduction quality at all sizes.

Photoshop creates vector imagery just fine. It's tools aren't as extensive as Illustrator's, but it will export an EPS, a file-format any printer will accept for printing.

Ah, my spirits were crushed by GeekScripts, but I think this will redeem me! I'll come up with something tonight. I use Corel Draw and I will export it in to Adobe Illustrator, but sometimes, it shows up funny. :-/

I didn't want this to turn into a big discussion on Photoshop vs. Illustrator <_< I was just wondering if there was a specific reason that PSD was being requested. Obviously solutions can be reached with either program. If you prefer to design logos is Photoshop, then by all means, go-for-it. I just wanted to make sure that Illustrator was an OK format for the final logo. :D
Photoshop vs. Illustrator is a discussion that should be held in another forum.

OK, here's my first shot... let me know your thoughts.
I honestly believe that you can not compare Ps7's vectoring tool to the almighty (lol) Illustrator. That's a no-no.
But anyway my desing is coming in a few.

Gladding - not sure I like the font.. however, I don't have a good suggestion either!!
QSDA - I like the concept, not so sure I like the guy, but I can't put my finger on why.
Keep those creative juices flowing!
Thanks!
Could please tell me what exactly you don't like? Is it maybe too detailed?, not enough detailed?, or just the character, colors?
thanks.

how bout these? Any of these work a little better?

QSDA - The detail is good.. I think it's the characater colors that aren't doing it for me.
Gladding - The font on the bottom right is better, but I don't think I like the shape behind it all.
Thanks for your work!

Huhhso - nice start.. not sure I like the "swirlies" in _02. Could you take those out and perhaps put an orangey flat top haircut on the geek?
To the other lurking designers.. have I scared you off saying I like Gladding's guy? Not intentional if I did do that. When I talked about logo's with my wife, she drew (not very well) something that closely resembled Gladding's guy.
Think Drew Carey! (<a href="http://www.emerchandise.com/product/SWDRC0001/s.crjeMbJ3"> http://www.emerchandise.com/product/SWDRC0...MbJ3</a>) (http://www.emerchandise.com/product/SWDRC0001/s.crjeMbJ3</a>))

Here's my first entry to your contest. I stayed away from the comic "geek" and went more upscale while still adding a "geeky" element: the Clark Kent style glasses.

ElKootcho - thanks for your entries.. how about some Harry Potter type glasses instead of Clark Kent?
And on the second one, I don't really care for the Geek Font.
J-Design, Palmer... where are your entries ;)

You want me to enter? Thanks! I just try to help in the Charity Cases forum where logos are concerned. I still consider my logo designs a "work in progress" ;)
But since you asked, sure, I'll give your contest a try :wee:

Here is my first idea, what do you think? The font is a century gothic.

Wow..
Comments
J-Design - interesting concept.. I'm concerned that people would see it and say "What the heck is that?"
Ondarox - I like it.. I like the subtle geek as the mouth too.. The hair is a little much, and I don't care for the font. Perhaps something like QSDA's font choice?
Palmer - 1.0 - I'm confused
1.1 Could I see it with orange instead of red? Perhaps a little color in the geek?
QSDA - the glasses seem a little contrived. I like the font, but I liked it better in your first entry when it was just straight.. perhaps some blue in the "to" instead of gray? What is the font that you are using?
Huhhso - I like it - the second better than the first. I'm not sure about the font, again perhaps QSDA font choice?
Thanks for your hardwork on this!! One of the first places this logo will go is on the side of a new Patriot Blue PT Cruiser!!

See... this is why I don't enter many logo contests :P
1.0 - This is the back of a "geeks" head looking at a computer. You can see the glasses poking out from the front of his head. I tried to put in one of those rubber-band eyeglass holder in the back and it didn't look right.
1.1 - Sure, it looked orange to me when I made it, it does look red compared to the other entries though. I'll make some changes and send up a new one.
Thanks for the comments :)

How's this one?
Tried to fix the glasses but it just didn't look right. It looked too small.

Wow! Coming down to the wire.
Palmer - nice touch putting it on the back of the PT! One minor change, could you make the GEEK the same font as the to me?
Huhhso - Could you try something close to QSDA's font?
Chelle - I like the second better than the first, could you also try something close to QSDA's font?
Ondarox - I love your sense of humor, you make looking at these much fun! I like the idea, not sure that I like the GEEK font choice..
QSDA - Thanks for sharing the font name. I love the font, I like the idea of the guy in the computer, but... I don't know if it's the glasses or what, but the guy is just not right.
Gladding - I like the guy (OK.. I'm biased), still not a fan of the font. Also, I'm not sure if it would work, but I do like QSDA's "geek in the box".
Tommorow is supposed to be the end of this contest, but I'll be traveling, so if it's ok with Palmer I'd like to extend until Monday the 24th.

Thanks, I'll make the changes. Regarding the extension of the contest, that's fine. We'll just have to wait til the 24th. I'd like to say that this was a lot of fun. I think the designers really enjoyed themselves with your contest and it shows. You did a great job keeping up with it too. You have a lot of great entries to sift through. :)

It was the same font, just one word was upper case and the other was lower case. So now they're both the same. :D
Just so you know, if you need some color changes to maybe show up on the car better, any of the designers would be happy to make those for you after the contest at no charge :)

Ok.. I apologize for not wrapping this up sooner, I've been sick  and didn't want to spread my germs!
Palmer - thanks for making this forum available, you are enabling (and providing) a great service.
Palmer, Gladding, QSDA, Huhhso, ElKootcho, J-Design, Ondarax and Chelle thank you all for your great design ideas, and your tolerance for my changes. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to being able to say "I knew him/her when...."
After some thought, and my "focus" group (the wife, the parents, the brothers and sisters-in-law), I'm pleased to say Gladding is the winner. The winning logo is the one on the convertable PT Cruiser.
Palmer, what's next?
Testimonial coming up next. And I have another logo request in the hopper (as soon as we decide on the name!). ProgrammingOutpost.. can't wait to see that one too!
