Hi,

This will be a 10-day contest, ending Feb. 26.

I need a logo for the nameplate of a newsletter about seniors prepared as an Illustrator file (Illustrator 9 or earlier).

The newsletter is called "Age in Motion" and what I had in mind is, I hope, quite simple: One colour only, either red or blue. At left, silhouettes of two people -- one male, one female -- walking toward the right, one silhouette at 100%, the other a shade lighter (maybe 30%?). To the right of the people, the words "Age in Motion" without the quotes. Beneath the silhouettes and the text, some sort of line -- straight or with some stylish wave to it.

I haven't given any thought to the font that should be used, but I know I don't want anything in a fancy script. It needs to be easy to read.

The other key is that the silhouetted figures need to be identifiable as mature people as the newsletter is about seniors. So if you can achieve that by using body shape, clothing shape or hairstyle that says 'senior,' that would be great.

Can somebody out there help me?

Thanks,
Paul Lidgate

Hi Paul,
Something like this?

Hi, Jason.

Yes, something like that, but perhaps with the people not quite so hunched over, perhaps only one with a cane. I think I'm trying to suggest they're a little more able bodied & active.

Also, I might be inclined to italicize the font to suggest a bit of that "motion" the title is all about.

Thanks for getting this started. I look forward to your contribution.

Better?
I completely changed the people and text.

Hi, Jason.

Better by far, and thanks for these. Of the two, I'm partial to the second one, with the people more prominent and a nice bold font, Arial Black or whatever it is. I need to get some feedback at my end from people I'm working with, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can. And of course, with eight or nine days left, there may still be other ideas that come forward.

Thanks again,
Paul

Hi, Jason and others.

The group I'm working with has decided they'd like the people part of this logo to be more active again, perhaps a mature couple dancing together as opposed to just walking. Possible to work toward that?

Thanks,
Paul Lidgate

That is a great idea, I'll see if I can come up with something for you.

Hi, Jason. Okay, I think we're just about there. The consensus seems to be that your #4 is the way for us to go, but my group likes the lines you've added in your version #5. So if you could apply the same kind of lines to #4, that would be great.

One other small thing: The woman's skirt seems to flare out a bit too much, making it seem too 'old fashioned' for our group. So if you could trim that, I think we'd be there.

If that will work, I think we may be able to wrap this up in a day or two, though I'm not sure what conventions are here about ending contests early.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul,
I added the lines as requested. Also included are two variations with the lines. About the skirt...
On the left side, when I bring in the skirt it leaves a strange white space (from the opening of the man's legs) so I tried to bring in the right side only and it was very unbalanced. If you want to see any of those changes I would be more than happy to make them for you.
Also, I wasn't sure if you needed PMS colors or if you had a specific color in mind.
Any changes, please feel free to ask.

Hi again,

These are both good, but you better show me the versions with the narrower skirt. We might be fine with the white space, and besides, you know how it goes: if I don't show them, they won't have a basis for judgment. As for color, I'm afraid I'm less literate than I should be. I just know I need one color that is either fully saturated or screened at a lower percentage to get that lighter effect. The newsletter gets printed as black plus one color.

Paul,
Based on option "b" I brought in the skirt a bit and made the man's leg a bit wider as to not show that "white space". Also, I included the same version in black and 70% black (gray) which I am assuming will be the way you see it in the news letter.
If you need anything else, please let me know.

Hi Again Paul,
I just re-read your post and got what you said, so you can ignore the black and gray image.
Sorry about that.

Hi, Jason.

Again, thanks for this. The black and gray image is fine, though I'd lighten it up somewhat. I'll send this back to my group later on today and get back to you, most likely tonight or early tomorrow. Then, assuming all is on track, we can arrange file transfer.

Thanks

No problem at all Paul. I am leaving for Las Vegas at about 6:30pm EST on Saturday, so if I win the contest I can do everything before I leave, or while I'm there I will be checking in every night and I can do it from there (I just won't be able to answer as fast).
