Hi all. Read about this site on a lawncare forum and am so happy to find it. The yellow pages needs my ad copy in ONE WEEK ! I am amazed by the work I have seen here and really want my ad to stand out.

I have quickly put together the text I would like to see in the add and a pic I took myself and have used for flyers etc which you can use if you like. Also my logo is included. If I go with a full color ad it costs a bit more then 2 colour or 1 colour so if you use more then the 2 colors (black and yellow) really go nuts and use a photo. The only thing I might ad is that the main thing that is different about my company is that I am pesticide free, and use organics. So if that "feeling" came across so much the better.

Ill talk to the yellow pages again tomorrow, your guess as to format is as good as mine. Keep it simple Im guessing (jpeg)

Here is what I need in the ad, in no particular order :

Organic Lawncare Programs - organic fertilizer programs with free pH test and lawn analysis.

Also offering scheduled lawn cutting and maintenance with new low emissions equipment.

Thick healthy turf crowds out weeds naturally.

Delivering top quality, innovative products and services resulting in beautiful low maintenance lawns you can feel good about. Environmentally sustainable lawn care rooted in turfgrass ecology.

Vancouver Islands Pesticide Free Alternative

Additional Services:
Deep-core aeration, Over-seeding , pH testing-lime application ,
Compost Topdressing , Biological insect control , Revolutionary Corn Gluten Meal Fertilizer, Pruning, Flower Bed Mulching and Maintenance.

FREE estimates FREE lawn analysis

If you are having problems attaching any files then feel free to email them to me michael[at]2square.co.uk but as I'm with a client this morning I'm only just checking in. You could even email them to palmer[at]designoutpost.com but he won't be around for another 4-5 hours or so.

I should be back on online in about 1-2 hours :)

I realize the 2 yellows from the pics and from the logo dont match too well. Remember, if you want just use the logo and do a 2 color ad if you like, One more pic you can use, again I have the original scan so can get a bigger image if nec. this is for a 4 inch wide by 2.5 inch high yellow pages ad. ty

Just talked to the sales rep at yellow pages, they want it as a Tiff or EPS. Im not sure if I gave you the jpeg or tiff version of my logo. If I gave you jpeg and you need or want Tiff let me know.

I need to have an ad by Wednesday afternoon. Wed Feb. 25. to get it into the book. ty!

There's a zip file a few posts back. I think it's in there.

Hmmm, that's all he sent me in my email. I thought one of them was the logo. I just saved the attachments, zipped them up and uploaded. I didn't look to see what they were.

Sorry :(

It's ok :D
Yeah, the one in the post is a bit too low res for printing....
I'll use that one for now as a "for placement only" type thing

I dont even know what an eps is but I emailed a 1.5 meg tiff to palmer so he can post it for you. Ty and I have bigger and higher rez files of everything if you need them.
Also let me know if I gave you too much text. Leave some out if you want too.

Here's a design for you ad... I was thinking there was quite a bit of text, but I got it all in there. Let me know if there's any text you'd like removed from the ad :)

Wow im so happy I did this, they look great. I knew I could to better than the "free inhouse design" I was offered.

Both designs are good and I bet now is not the time for details like this but in case it is:

Visual- I live on an island and the area code is the same everywhere so don;t need the area code I think. Also can you highlight - Organic fertilizer programs with free... since that is the main thing I do and main thing I want to sell. If you go to caps keep spelling of pH with the small case p.

Gilles- on the bottom its Vancouver Island's Pesticide-Free Alternative

Hello :)

Here are a few changes. As you can see, I kept the bee from your logo as a watermark ;) Let me know if you want me to change anything else. I will do the changes quickly :)

It looks great ! If you want you can try it with a different bullet and dif color text for the top line. Thats only thing I would even try differently.

Hi :) I'm glad you like it :) Here are the changes, I placed the same red bullet to the top text, it gives continuity somehow, and used green on "organic lawncare". Please let me know if you want some more changes. I will do them quickly :)

Best regards,
Gilles.

visual, I dont think you can improve that great design but just for the heck of it can you give me the sentence Organic fertlizer programs in all caps and another way of highlighting that sentence. Thats the main thing I want to sell, I think its great the way it is but am open to anything we can do to draw attention to that part of my service.

organic lawnguy
02-24-2004, 09:08 AM
IN that same line, I have -- organic lawncare programs... you can try it without the word programs since I repeat that in the next sentence.

organic lawncare - organic fertilizer prgms....

also, did u get to use the higher rez version of my logo? ty

VisualSense
02-24-2004, 09:18 AM
not a problem! :D
I figured moving the "Organic Lawncare" part away from the rest of the text and putting it in a box & making in larger would make it easier to find and read... and yes, I have the high res logo version in there..

I played a little with it to make it more balanced :D

Here we go ...

organic lawnguy
02-24-2004, 12:38 PM
general, I love the first one.

everyone is using no caps in the organic fertilizer sentence since I didnt use caps when I originally typed it out. can u try it in all caps or first letter caps as appropriate (not on the p in pH Test)
also can you put a bullet beside that sentence, using the same bullet you use for the services below.

great design ty. Also you can cap Lime application or Lime Application or however you think it should be. I think spelling is ok but feel free to correct any spelling or grammar or caps I did, I just typed it out any which way.

I think the organic fertlizer programs sentence looks fine with no caps just want to make sure u are doing it that way cause you think it looks better and not cause its the way I happened to type it out. :)

I'll be back with revision :)

.......................................

here is the revision. The sentence from top is looking better without caps because this way is more balanced, I tried it with caps too and first letter, I choosed the best variant :D

Let me know if you want other changes.

Thanks

My friend said I shoulnt have asked for all caps, bad idea, but he kind of likes it the way it is but could try first letter caps. fair enough.

also he says when he read the top he read, vancouver islands pesticide then a pause, then free alternative. so after talking with him we thought we could try pesticide-free with no space before and after the dash. so it looks more like one word. ty very much.

And all CAPS ... :D

This way you can compare better :)

organic lawnguy
02-24-2004, 01:39 PM
super, I like first letter caps the best. And as far as my logo goes, I made it myself and lets just say I really wish I had checked out this site before I spent a month comming up with my logo. Im also wondering how bad it is to change ones logo after a year in business. its to late for this add. I already have my logo on my truck and some clothing and paperwork. How bad is my logo and how bad is it to change it starting in year two? I know I lose some of the work and money I will have spent on 'branding'. If all that is too off topic disregard.
I said Tues night so I'll give a bit more time. I'll pick a winner tonight or tomorrow morning and need to get files pretty quick after that to meet the print deadline.

VisualSense
02-24-2004, 01:42 PM
Yeah know.... I like the logo, the bee is cute. The only thing you might consider is reworking the text part (company name, etc), Maybe having the bee flow more with the company name. Then you wouldn't have to necessarily change your whole image... just update it! :)

organic lawnguy

general

"scheduled lawn cutting with... "

can you try this with a bullet as the first one below the mission statement. the top service listed with the additional services.

If my slogan beneath my logo is to small you can take it out. up to you.

DesignGeneral

ty visual, great advise. I will post a contest in logo giving all my logo and simply asking to have it jazzd up. If you think it is strong enough that it can make an ok logo if re-worked then that would be perfect and I could transition to the new logo as I replace clothing, forms, etc. ty

DesignGeneral
02-24-2004, 02:40 PM
I'm back... :D It taked me more time, because I redrawed your logo; (the quality of the image you provided wasn't good eough, I think I guessed the fonts used :D, also I used other formatting for your slogan and a bigger font size... that is obvious :) ). Please let me know if looks ok.

organic lawnguy
02-24-2004, 02:49 PM
perfect, great idea. can you try same with mission statement (light green part) in bolder text. maybe only slightly bolder, I dont want to change the emphasis or context of the ad, its just right.

or maybe a slightly darker green. whatever u think

organic lawnguy
02-24-2004, 02:53 PM
since it is literally going in the "yellow pages" maybe it wants a dark or interesting border to make it stick out on the page

Ladies and germs we have a winner. It was very very difficult to choose and I am still amazed and so happy I found this site.

The design I choose for my ad is the latest one by Diane at Visual Sense.

Im not positive what happens next but I need the ad as a tiff or eps. (not sure about the second one, it was something like eps, I can double check) I guess if you can give me jpeg too that would be great. my email adress is
bumblebee-lawncare@shaw.ca

ty so much for all who participated, I will be posting for a contest for a combo logo update and 8.5 by 4 brochure. :lol2:

I'm sending over a CMYK tif file, you'll probably just send that to the yellow pages.
I'm also including a jpeg files in there.
