Ok guys,

Your task is to create a full color one sided door hanger that will produce the most calls. Use your imagination.

I will be posting my logo that was created on Design Outpost as soon as I figure out how to post it (it's larger than the limits set on the attachment restrictions).

Dimensions: 4.25"w X 11"h

Remember, there will be a hole cut out in the top of the door hanger where the doorknob will slide through, so be sure you don't place any text there.

It is your decision to come up with the best advertisement using your own good judgement and common sense. There are two main reasons why people buy from me 1.) It frees their time to do other stuff and 2.) It makes their landscape look nice. Personally, I kind of think selling the free time is better than selling the immaculate landscape, but you decide how you want to approach it.

Again, we're selling free time and pretty landscapes. Pretty simple. You figure out how best to sell one or both of these products, you win.

Here are some things that you may want to include in the door hanger, but are not required. I'm listing them in the order of importance (at least in my mind):

Mace Meier - owner/operator - has a BS in Landscape Contracting from Oklahoma State University
We accept Mastercard, Visa & Discover
We bill monthly for services
We do not require year long contracts/commitments
Very reliable service

If it helps, you may list all or some or none of the standard services we offer:

Weekly Lawn Mowing
Bi-Weekly Lawn Mowing
Bed Weed Control
Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control
Fire Ant Control
Seasonal Color
Seasonal Color Soil Ammendment
Seasonal Color Maintenance
Cypress Mulch & Bed Clean-Up
Shrub Trimming & Pruning
Small Tree & Shrub Insect Prevention
Autumn Leaf Clean-Up
Grub Prevention
Irrigation System Analysis
Irrigation System Control
Winter Over Seed
Landscape Design & Proposal

I'm not a huge fan of listing every service offered, but if you think it helps, do it. As for services that sell the most, they are weekly lawn mowing, bi-weekly lawn mowing, bed weed control and lawn fertilization and weed control. I think those are the four products that will generate the most calls. The other products are pretty much upsells.

You'll need to include our telephone number, 972-365-8772, as well as the domain, www.meierslandscape.com

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of any work I did last year, so you'll have to figure out what to design. I'm not a fan of cartoon characters, so it might be good to stay away from that.

That's about it for now.

Thanks,
Mace Meier

Here is an entry from me (the front). I made it clean and simple. This can also be used for the back side if you think it's too simple. Let me know what you think before I start on the other side.

Dynagirl,

I think you may be on to somthing with this one. Can we make the following changes:

1.) Move the picture of the lawn chairs up such that it says "Wouldn't it be nice to relax?" at the top of the picture. The photo will be in the middle, more or less, of the door hanger.

2.) Below the picture, put the logo down there. And below that, say "Complete Landscape Maintenance". Below that, in slightly smaller font size, list these services/selling points: Weekly Lawn Mowing, Bi-Weekly Lawn Mowing, Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control, Bed Weed Control, Monthly Billing and No Long Term Commitments.

3.) Just below that, list the phone number and websight.

4.) Just under that, can you show the actual credit card logos?

5.) Just under that, in very small font, let's try writing "BS Landscape Contracting, Oklahoma State University". All on one line, if possible.

I think that might flow a little better.

Thanks,
Mace Meier

Mace,

I took the suggestions you already gave and incorporated imagery that I think will play to your target audience. Having not talked to you before, I am only guessing that the majority of your target is Male, Family, Middle Class to Affluent. That demographic also hits very high for golfing - hence the tie-in.

I may be off base - just let me know.

Mace,

Do you have feedback on these?

Ok, here's the feedback.

I'm very impressed with what each of you have come up with. Very professional. Congratulations to each of you.

It's coming down to a three horse race between DesignGeneral's coastline, Dynagirl's lawnchairs (the second one) and Cadii's golfer.

As far as appearance goes, I like the golfer the most. I really like the rounded edge at the bottom of the picture with the background logo. I just think the appearance of that one rocks. But my goal is to generate the most calls. The only reservation I have with the golfer is that just about 55% of my sales came from women last year. Typically, men are more likely to play golf, so this ad may not appeal to women as much. My wife has never played golf and she votes for the golfer, so my marketing guesses may be all f'd up anyway. Another fear I have with the golfer is that someone may find the door hanger, see the golfer and immediately assume it's there to sell them something for golf, never read the text and toss it.

I'm thinking the lawn chairs might be the most likely to get someone curios enough to continue reading the text. The coastline looks really good too, but I just don't think the coastline photo says "relax" as much as the lawnchairs. Those lawnchairs just say "relax", in my opinion. But I also think the lawnchairs with the question "Wouldn't it be nice to relax?" might be more likely to get someone to invest another three seconds of their day to continue reading and see what we're selling.

All in all, I'd probably get similar response rates from any of these. It's a numbers game in the end. The more I advertise, the more inquiries I'll get. I wanted my advertisement to look professional and any of these will accomplish that goal.

That's the feed back for now. These are awesome, guys. It's a tough, tough decision to select to a winner from these. You've thoroughly exceeded my expectations.

If I had to decide today, it would be either the golfer or the lawnchairs. I'll ask some friends over the weekend for their input.

Dynagirl,

You are the winner. I think we're going to use the first design you posted, but I'd like to make a few changes:

1.) Change Complete Landscaping & Lawn Care Services to Complete Landscape Maintenance

2.) Change all the services listed under that to Weekly Lawn Mowing, Bi-Weekly Lawn Mowing, Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control, Bed Weed Control, Monthly Billing and No Long Term Commitments.

3.) Incorporate the Visa, MaterCard and Discover logos somewhere on the design, at your discretion.

4.) Beneath www.meierslandscape.com write "BS Landscape Contracting, Oklahoma State University"

I'll need this in the original file format that it was created as well as a JPEG so I can view it before I send it off to the printer. Please e-mail the files to mace at bigballsincowtown.net. The sooner, the better.

Thanks,
Mace Meier

Thanks Mace.
I think we can finish this up in a day. Let me make the changes and I'll post a revision for you. And once you're satisfied with the finished product I'll get the files together for you to download.

What happened to the picture? The one you had posted the other day looked good. I still need you to e-mail the file to me at mace@bigballsincowtown.net.

Sorry about that. I've apparrently got something seriously wrong with my server today and so far I've not been able to get to the bottom of it. But it sounds like you saw the revision and were happy with it, so I'll get the files together and email them to you this evening.
