View Full Version : Philip's Lawn Service - $100
(Admin code added by Palmer - F162330J)
$100.00
Hey guys you all do great work and this service is exactly what I was looking for. To increase my professional look I will be needing a more professional logo. This logo will be going on all invoices, advertisements, a website, and a sign on the trailer. In the future this logo might appear on t-shirts and the side of my truck.
My services mostly include mowing and fall clean up. I would like the logo to be crisp and clean. I would like to see dark green (forest) and silver (I run silver dixie chopper mowers) included in the logo. However I am not limited to these colors and other colors would be ok. I think blades of grass would look good as well since mowing is my main service.
Philip's Lawn Service
quality-reliability-flexibility
I would like the information above to be included in the logo, if the 3 bullets are too much include "quality lawn care" instead.
my phone number is ***-****and if that could be worked in that would be cool. But I think that would be over the top.
This contest will end March 17 2003
however I might pick a winner before then because I need to start advertising, updating my website, and getting the sign made.
I will be checking the progress 2-3 times a day to keep you guys updated.
You all are great!
Thanks
phil

I will be entering in the next couple days.
My guess is that most designers are working on contests that have a closer deadline.
You set yours at March 17th.
I am in and you will see something by Friday or sooner.

Thanks so much for the prompt responses!!!
CURSAL:
I not a big fan of showing equipment in logos. I would also like to see darker green an some silver if possible.
CADII:
Heading in the rigt direction with the colors and grass. However I would like the grass to be more like blades and not a lawn. I also would like the blades of grass to be more incorportaed with the txt and not so stand-alone.
JULIET:
Awesome color choice. A little too bold and ridgid. I dont want my name to stand out quite so much. (Only 1 L not 2)
BETHIE:
Not what I am looking for. I would like to have grass and not a tree, its too round and hard to read.
Mark B:
Solid design, I like the colors, the grass is ok but still needs too look a little more real. However I dont like the leaf floating across it seems a little destracting
Thanks so much guys! you all are doing great, I will be checking very a couple times a day.

Nice revision. I would not like so much grass dominating the logo. 3-6 blades should be plenty, all in a little clump.
The green is still a little too light
here are some colors I am looking for:

A little too plane, my name is too big and the grass looks too fake. I do like the rectangle format.
Cadii
Looks great. the 1st and 2nd are my favorite. Could you try out some different font types and different grass layouts with that oval shape???
Thanks, everyone is doing great!
I just saw this logo on this site today.
I like the way the grass is a main part in the logo but not too overbearing.

I like the colors. Try to make it fit together better and with more pronounced grass like that in Green Quest's logo.

Ok Philip, here are the revisions:
Top row uses the drop of the second p as the space to allow better alignment of the text below "Lawn Care"
Second Colum has a "shadow" behind the grass and underline,
#4 has just a hint of the black behind it to pull it out more.
<img src='http://www.deluxebanners.com/contests/phil_lawn4.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Getting closer?
Thanks for your comments :)

Cadii
I love 1 and 2. Could you try that design with different grass. The ones currently on it seem too unrealistic and out of control. Could you try Philip's Lawn Care and not Philip's Lawn Service, I just want to see how it will look. Thanks

2 and 4 look awesome. Could you try making the phone number bigger and try out different fonts?

Thanks for the new imput on my logo designs. I am looking for something a little more complex and not quite as simple as your entrys. The grass in the background makes the words hard to read.
I really like cadiis last entry (#1 and 2). The grass is a part of the logo but does not interfear with the txt and looks sharp. cadii needs to make the grass look a little more real and not like a weed. lol

Great work! I am just concerned that it might be a little over bearing and hard to read. Could you give me some similar entries with a little twist?
Dyan
Little too simple and not what I am looking for. but good effort.
DG
Thank you for your effort with so many entries!
However it is just not what I am looking for.
Cadii
Awesome Work! Keep Philip's Lawn Service and not Philip's Lawn Care. I like the 1st one the best. Any small revisions you could make to the grass would be good also. (it does not look like a weed anymore lol)

Can you give me a more detailed feedback. What you like and what you don't like in my entries? Do you like the font treatment I used?
Better grass? I also cleaned up the text, fixed the widths of the fonts, cleaned up the oval around the fonts.
Enjoy...
NICE!
could you make a thin outline wtih that silver around the oval or would that look stupid?
I like the grass as it is but just curious to see how it would look with slightly thicker blades and less pointy tips.
GREAT WORK!
DG
You logo is solid but I really dont like the grass. The font is too ridgid and needs more roundness. I am looking for rounded shapes with some blades of realistic grass that is simple but not too homemade.
hope that helps
thanks for your hard work!
pls,
I will work on the revisions. I will have them for you later this evening. I have to run some errands and will be back.

Hi pls
Here's my entry - a two color design with the third (gradient) being four color (CMYK). Works well in black & white too. :)
WOW guys great work!
Just a reminder this contest will now end on MARCH 1st at 7pm eastern time.
DG
I like the first one of the 6 you submitted. However I dont like the grass being incorportaed into the L. The grass needs to be more realistic and more spread out. Could you try outlining the phone number in black. I still dont really like the "3D" look of the oval.
Wax
I like this concept. The first entry was my favorite. Could you make the shadow behind Philip's Lawn Service a dark silver instead of black to make the name stand out. The grass needs to be a little darker green also.
Dynagril
Looks great. I love how crisp it is. Could you make the oval horizontal and not vertical. Also try and make the silver in the back ground "shiny" and not one color. Also a shadow or outline of my name might be cool
Cadii
I like the last entry with the silver just bordering the oval and not the grass. There is still something missing from the grass. The blades are too thin and wirey. Please try and make the grass fan out a little also. I also really like how you outlined each blade of grass in the original logo on the last page.
Dyangril
The last entry is not quite what I have in mind. The color is a little too overbearing, and the grass needs to be more realistic. I like your first entry better.
Eagle
Nice. The green is a little too light. The one on the right side is my favorite. I dont really like the "star" of grass look. Could you also make the silver a little darker? thanks
Cursal
Your design is solid. I needs some less bold fonts and dont outline PHILP so many times. Maybe try some italics. I am looking for a less overbearing background. I would also like some different looking grass. Thanks!

DG

I like the black border. Experiment with a thicker black border lined with the silver. The grass "explodes" too much.

Very nice. #2 is my favorite. The three words at the bottom need more emphasis.

sorry cadii I just reread my last comment to you and it sounds like I am saying opposite things to you between posts. I like the grass in the #2 logo. I just dont want quite so much of it. Hi pls
Here's your revisions.
The second one represents the file which would be supplied with a Pantone spot color reference for metallic silver. For obvious reasons, this cannot display properly on a monitor. Metallic lustre may vary dependant on substrate used and the printing process itself. :)
If you haven't done so already, I would thoroughly recommend getting a metallic job priced up at your printers as they are often prohibitively expensive. However, I could still supply the simulated silver as in the first version. :)

Carl...
One small revision and we are finished!
could you please outline the silver text in my name and the 3 words. I think it might be hard to read otherwise. Grass looks great!
Maybe a few clicks darker green in the oval.
Your awesome!
Sorry I liked the first one the best... lol
pls,
I cleaned up the edges on the text - added proper outlines - they will print well - it doesn't look as good on a monitor, but they are there.
I moved the green color down to the darkest forest green PMS color available. It was one step down from what was originally in the file.
I know you are interested in printing the silver color as a metallic finish, and that is how I have the files setup.
I will be travelling out of town beginning tomorrow and will only be checking in occassionally, but will have my files for this job with me to make changes if necessary.
You can always email me at diedrich@comcast.net

pls,
I will be getting all the files together for you.
I just need to know what file formats you need everything in for your printer.
I can do them tomorrow and email the files as needed.
Carl...
sounds good. I would assume my printer could use just JPEG and GIF files.
Also I noticed on your final logo there was a color problem just to the left of the grass in the oval. Like a like a little section of black covers the green.
Below:
[edited for privacy]
pls,
I noticed that too. I rechecked the file and it happened on the transfer to a web image. It WILL NOT look that way in the final artwork.
Also, do you need a black and white image for faxing, checks, etc.?
Carl...
sure that would be great!
pls,
I have the logos ready to go in Illustrator Format and zipped up. I know you said you wanted the logos in JPEG or GIF format, but unless I know the exact use for the logo, I will have to make the logos very large and they will have to be put on disk for you.
I can email the zipped Illustrator files and you can see if those are ok for your printer to use.
Generally, the Illustrator files are preferred because they are in Vector format which makes them very easy to scale. Also, the color information, including the Pantone Spot Color for the Metallic Silver will be embedded in the file.
I took the liberty of creating just your name "Philip's Lawn Service" as a seperate service mark for you to use when the full logo isn't appropriate.
I will email the zip file to you.
I will still be doing a disk for you, which will have everything on it, including all Vector and Raster (JPEG or GIF) images.
I will need your mailing address. The disk will most likely be sent out Tuesday, unless you need it sooner.
Let me know!
Carl...
BTW, Here are all the marks that I have made for you:
