We are in desperate need for a logo for our timber stair company!!!

PTS is a timber stair company that manufactures timber stairs to a variety of buyers. At this stage of our business it is mainly to small builders and people doing their own home renovations. (Our company is only a few months old). By the end of the year PTS is more likely to be selling stairs to primarily larger construction companies and gaining contracts with the bigger project home builders.

The design of the stairs varies so much that it is difficult to put us in a category but we can manufacture stock-standard stairs or design modern stairs to suit the client.

We use all types of timber, it usually depends on whether the stairs are going to be covered in carpet or not. Obviously if they are going to be carpeted then the type of timber is not too much of a concern. However, if the staircase is going to be left bare then the client needs to choose the timber that would suit their style, design and budget.

The stairs that we produce can be designed for outdoor and indoor. The outdoor stairs are a bit more confined on the timber range to ensure that they last in all weather conditions. But we do about 50%, at this stage, outdoor timber stairs, using mostly hardwoods.

The fashion at the moment is timber stairs with cast iron and wood balustrades, so we also import these balustrades and incorporate them in our designs and installations.

We don't have a web site at this stage or photos that I can put onto the web but if you look at any stair company web site it might give you some ideas.

At this stage we are open to all types of designs. We are thinking of having navy blue and red as our colours but it's not definate as yet. We would like something funky and modern, maybe a stair somehow involved in the logo but not necessary. We would like the words 'Prestige Timber Stairs Pty Ltd' to appear and also 'PTS'.

We like the idea of having a stair in the logo but not one just scanned off a picture, something really unusual. Curving stairs, handrails, people walking up stairs are some ideas. Even just a squiggle that looks a bit like a stair could be good. We like the words to look quite fancy and the picture to almost be incorporated in the words.

Please keep in mind this logo will be used on our business cards, letterheads and other marketing materials so it needs to be able to look good in lots of sizes. It also needs to be able to be printed out in Black and White and still look good.

Any suggestions would be great

thanks

Do you have any pictures of the work you do? I'd like to try incorporating something you've done into the logo.

A question to the Contest Holder:

could you please explain what exactly does your company do? :) That would help us to grab the direction of the design concept, and maybe, as Julie said, we could use some specific items relted to your workflow in our logos.

Thanks in advance ;)

Did someone say funky and modern? Remember this optical illusion? Here's one color variation. I also like it with green or red stairs. And it looks fine in grey scale or the grey can be removed altogether for a pure black and white. The font can change but I think it should stay either boxy (to match the stairs) or maybe something in a hand-scripted looking font (to compliment the stairs). I've just included boxy because I like it better. Whaddoya think...

Hello
Here's some art work I created featuring stairs and balustrades.

If you like what you see I'll work in the text and as you see it works well in B/W
I can add color (Suggestions of color please)

PLMK if you like

PTS, I'm thinking that from the name that the stairs you make are for the outdoors. If you have some pics to share, or a website, or more info about your product...

Do you construct out of cedar? Treated? Is your work usually stained or painted?

Who do you sell to? The consumer or installers?

Maybe with answers to those questions the creative juices will start to flow. Just some ideas. :)

Velda, if you are contacted by a Contest Holder privately during a contest and regarding the contest, please tell them politely that it's against the rules or contact any member of administration team. You don't have to post here your private correspondence, though.

Also, please check the rules once again, just in case there are more things you'd forgotten ;) Here's the link: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showtopic=35
Read it carefully and check out all the links this tread offers.

Same for the rest of you, Team ;)

HI Nickala,

Not sure if you got our reply before, it seems we sent it to your private email and that's against the rules, so here goes again.

Thanks for the design. What you done is very similar to what we build but not really what we had in mind for a logo. We wanted something more modern and simple.

Frankl - beatz,
Thanks for the designs, not sure if you got our other email but just to repeat.
The first one we like but is a bit too 'surfy' for the image we are trying to sell. We prefer something modern and simple. We're not too keen on the picture of the person on the stairs, but ;oke the idea. We like the second one not sure about the font and different colours might help
thanks

Graphixguy,
Really like your design. It's great. Would like to see it in either red or blue. Is there any way you could make it look like they are stairs and as if they are decending? At the moment we think it looks a little like a rail track but really can't stress how much we like the idea

Radicalseed,
You should work that late at night all the time. We think your design is great. We like the yellow one better, the blue was a little dark. Keep in mind it has to work well in a grayscale copy too. Is there a way you could take the focus off the word Prestige and keep 'Prestige Timber Stairs' all the same size?
Please let us know what you can come up with

Could we make one tiny suggestion??

Can you please keep the emphasis off PRESTIGE and put the same on on the whole business name PRESTIGE TIMBER STAIRS Pty Ltd.

Pty Ltd doesn't need to be as big.

Your new design (the rise and run one) is not really what we want but we still really like the old one. Can you place Prestige TImber Stairs on the right hand side again and put in in the same size font. Could you give us an option of a few fonts to see what we like best? We really like the yellow but we'd like to see if it works in other colours other than the dark blue and red you did first. :cooldude:

After long consideration we have finally decided on a winner!

Thank you very much to all designers who gave us great logos to choose from. We were amazed by the quality and uniqueness of the designs.

And the winner is.....

JASON BLACK - BLACKSPOT!!!!! :D

There are a few things we want to change to get it completely how we want it though.:
We'd like to keep it orange - is ther a shade lighter for the orange? Can you put the two next to each other?
We'd like to change the font so it's a bit sharper and on the right hand side

Jason,

Sorry about our slackness to reply and finish this off. We still really like the logo but have been very busy with other things to decide on the font we like.

I have just noticed that P, T & S could be visually bolder . (I'm not not sure how to express myself... sorry) Maybe put the first letter in a box to emphasis the PTS?? So while you read across the page Prestige Timber Stairs you can also read the company name downwards as PTS. Does this make any sense??

I think I like the bolder stronger looking fonts of c. and d. Probably in all capitals too. But still only 80% confident on the fonts here. Sorry again with all the trouble!!!

Jess

Jason,

From your #1 Revision we like the original colour.

For the font we like the #2 revison font but it's a bit too bold and thick. Can we have something like the Original font but thicker so it stands out a bit more.

We like the P, T & S in orange but can we have those letters outlined in black?

Can we have the Pty Ltd after the word Stairs rather than underneath it.

Once the logo has been finalised, in what format do you give it to us? We are just wondering how we can change the size for different materials such as a business card or letterhead.

thanks

Just J
04-15-2004, 06:34 AM
I will get right to work on those changes for you.
When we are finished with the revisions, I will supply:
300dpi .tif
.eps color
.eps black
(I can substitute .ai files for the .eps if preferred)
.jpg
As for re-sizing for letterhead and business cards... Any designer you choose will be able to work with either the ,tif or .eps. If you would like any other formats just let me know and I will more than happy to supply them.

Hi Jason,

We have decided on the 2nd font!!! YEAH!!!

We'd definately like to have the logo in tiff format with a minimum of 300dpi resolution (this is what I'm told!!!) and all the others you mentioned.

Thanks so much for everything

Jess & Arno

You got it!
Just going to tie up the loose ends and then I will be ready to send them to you. All I need now is your email address so I can send the files (you can send it to me in a PM if you'd like).

Thanks a lot.

Jason

Sure Jess...

The Orange is Pantone 1665PC
The Black is Pantone Black

The files have been sent.
Thank you VERY much Jess. Let me know if you need anything else.

Jason
