Hey folks,

I'm running this competition for a new business my brother and sister will be starting soon. I'll try and give as much feedback as possible, heres the info...

I’m after a logo for a new e-commerce website that is to launch soon, selling dragon-related items :)

Prize: $125

Website URL: DragonElements.co.uk (There is nothing there at the moment) We do not want the .co.uk in the logo.

The types of products we will sell are: Everything to do with dragons - posters, art, carvings, statues etc.

Ideas: A dragon in the logo would be good (not a cute looking one). Maybe some sort of magic element like fire from the dragons mouth.

We’ re after something smart and professional looking on a white background.

Logos we like:
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/dragonlance - top of page logo
http://www.blizzard.com/wow/ - The World of Warcraft logo at top of page
http://www.princeofpersiagame.com/index.php - Skip the intro, Prince of Persia logo on top right
http://ffcc.nintendo.com/launch/ - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles logo
http://www.goblincommander.com/ - Goblin Commander logo

No specific colours required, just that it should be on a white background.

He said it does not need to be vector based, but if you could make it 300 dpi.

Deadline: Sunday March 18th 2004

Format: We would like to have the logo in .png and .eps files

Thanks.

Expect an entry from me this weekend! I love dragons - sounds like a cool company.

Hey,

Good to hear Rhonda

Eagle: If your planning to enter this, my brother suggested using the same font/style you used in your Ethnic Elements logo, as he thought that would suit this very nicely too.

Kamran, thought I would show you my starting point before getting too wrapped up in the heavy details and coloring.

No, he does not have teeth yet. I was thinking that the fire could underline the text. And if you want hind legs, I can work those in too.

Any thoughts?

I'm definitely in. What is the highest resolution you're looking for? And you're not requesting any vector art of any kind for this, right?

Hi Kamran! My design for DragonElements logo. 3-D effects, shading and other details can be done in photoshop and delivered in png format.

Well here it is, was definitely very fun to make! Some things still need a little tweaking but I'll fix those after I get your opinion on things.

Kamran

Hey,

Rhonda: That looks great, good idea about the fire too...looking forward to seeing more :)

Christian: He said it does not need to be vector based, but if you could make it 300 dpi. (I'll mention this in the main post now)

Chocolate: They felt it was too cartoony..maybe try it with darker colours...also they didnt like his feet :) They mentioned that the text was difficult to read against the dragon too...so maybe change the colour for that too.

Christian: Good start, they really like the font/style of "Dragon Elements" text, but they suggested making the wings of the dragon bigger as they thought they looked abit like bat wings. Also if possible could you make the dragon alittle brighter, they felt it was too dark.

Thanks.

A more fiery-looking dragon:

Kamran

Chocolate: Thats a better dragon, could you work on the Dragon Elements sign now - the name looks squashed in there, and we're not sure what the black side of it is for... is it suppose to be burned?

Thanks.

Hello
here's one from MOZ.

Before I became a designer here, I would have never attempted to compete in this contest
due to illustration factor. But by watching and learning and competing against such great artist
you guys have built up my confidence  THANK YOU

Sorry about the speach, but I'm so glad to be here at DO!

Here he is without the batlike wings! ;) This one's a little more drafty than the other one but just want to know if I'm headed in the right direction before polishing it up. I was thinking I could even add the dragon's arms and hands holding up the banner from the bottom.

*Thanks Baker, appreciated!

Hey,

Looks like you lot have been busy then :)

beatz: Looks good, he prefers the 2nd one of the 2nd post the best, could you make the dragon abit bigger? Nice font and colours used :)

Eagle: Looking good...if possible could you add more of a body to the dragon, if not theres no more changes :)

CBaker14: The font is nice but he doesnt like the dragon, any chance of changing it? (He prefers more detail)

pennyln: Looks good...cant think of anymore changes :)

MOZ: He prefers the first one you submitted, the dragon is nice, could you cut down the fire...or remove it all together? Also could you try to make the name stand out more (might help by removing fire, different font or different colours)

Chocolate: Looks good...cant think of anymore changes :)

Christian: Looks good, he likes your idea of adding the dragon's arms and hands holding up the banner from the bottom, so if you could add those he'd appreciate it.

Thanks all

Hey,

MOZ: He likes that first logo, the dragon is OK now, could you change the font of the name to something more oldish looking :) Also if possible could you put the dragon in the middle above the text.

CBaker14: He likes the font and colours, just not the dragon, hes after a dragon similar to some of the other entries, upright with the wings spread out.

Rhonda: The image isnt working for us at the moment, we'll check back later.

Thanks.

Hi Kamran,

I thought I'd take a little bit different approach here using dragons as letterforms. Let me know if you like the direction. I'll be glad to make any changes you'd like to see.

Thank you,

Hey,

Sorry for the delay folks, heres the comments:

Rhonda: Its looking good...would you be able to make the "dragon elements" stand out more - maybe try a different font? (if possible). Also theres a few marks on the dragon - the right wing (red smudge) and a few marks on the tail - would you be able to fix these so they are not as noticeable? Lastly once its finished, would you be able to make the image have a more glossy feel?

Raja: He likes the font, but prefers the dragon you used above the logo to the one in the logo :) Would you be able to try it with that, and add some colour to the logo?

CBaker14: He likes it - no more changes :)

MOZ: He likes it - no more changes :)

dbenton: Looking good...could you try it with Gold and/or silver ish colours please?

Christian: He likes the bottom one with the brown background better - no more changes :)

Thanks.

Hi Kamran

I've agonised over your revision request on my entry here! :o The text is the dominant factor in the design and I feel that to add any more of the dragon would affect the (relative) simplicity of the logo. Therefore, I'd like to stay with my existing entry less any positional/colour tweaks etc...

Please accept my apologies but I hope you understand. :)
