Ed,
The logo will remain pretty much as is (that's basically what's on their letterhead and such) But, you can use different background colors for it, and under it use the phrase "Precision Manufacturing"
I'm going to make a zipped file of some possible images, which I'll post in the next 30 minutes.
I don't know if there will be many additional features, b/c they site won't be 'dynamic', programming-wise.

Forgot to add -
I don't know what the content will be (text-wise) on the front page, but put in some gobbledy-gook text as a place holder.
Here are some zipped pics, just as a starting point. Feel free to add others which might go well.

EvenEd,
Nice first try.
Here are some thoughts -
Nice use of blue and the metallic idea.
Instead of 3 columns under the 'big top', let's just use 2 at about a 75% - 25% split.
Also, let's use a white bg for that area, and a softer gray for the text itself.
I'm worried that TOO MUCH blue might look a bit too "Terminator"-ish, which we're trying to avoid.

Interesting stuff so far. We're seeing the client Friday.
We're taking all designs in, and we'll get comments then.

Here is my entry. I figured since it is precision manufacturing, it should have clean lines.

Jereme,
Try This:
Move the 'BSC' text on the top bar to either left or right side, and on the bottom, include the usual email/phone contact space
Thanks

I added the contact info and made a couple of other changes as well. I would like to see a photo of the facility where the picture in the contact area is.

Does this means that your client didn't like the entries so far?
did they not comment on any of the designs specifically?

Comments/Feedback
Here were some sites/designs the client mentioned that he liked:
Overall, they want a simple understated site (Not in a flashy industry)
http://spcmfg.com/dmmain.html (same industry but would want something a little more creative than this)
Another similar type of industry is http://www.ultratoolmfg.com/ultrawebpages/special.htm (however, BSC does not sell parts this way or make anything this simple)

Here is a new design from me.
Feedback appriciated.

Thanks, Anne.
I think that's closer where we need to be.
Can you make the middle text area a different color ?
michaelk
03-11-2004, 08:35 AM
Actually, what I meant was not the text itself, but make that whole area white or a grayish; just for contrast. Might make it stick out more.
Ok, I'll work on it later tonight.
this is just a start... any ideas/comments?
michaelk
03-11-2004, 11:48 AM
Interesting, Zing.
Try making the top "buttons" a little smaller
Here is a new improved one :)
ill make the changes asap and other comments thus far?
michaelk
03-11-2004, 12:42 PM
Zing,
Maybe left-justify the logo on top bar
you mean above the menu? if so ill make the main graphical bit under the menu much better ect...
michaelk
03-11-2004, 12:51 PM
Yeah - Give it a shot.
im gonna put this one on hold and try something new, bear with me :)
any feedback on this concept?

Hey everyone,
Thanks for your submissions. here are some thoughts. the client is very conservative and really wasn't struck with any of the posts so far. :( I think I threw you guys off track by listing pictures of gears, etc.)
Let's make it more conservative. The postings on the top of page 6 for casper for the posting for software consultants are really good. Let's move in that direction.
Remember : their logo is B / S / C and is in gold so we want to work in that color family.
also, some of the pictures that have been used are of a foundry which is a totally different industry. This is what they do: they make high end parts that fit into other parts of major equipment like Nasa's space shuttle, Navy radar systems etc.
thanks!!! ;)
could you try and provide some more ideas if possible... any new pics that are more suited to the industry? are you looking for a minimal look then? also do you want mostly gold colouring for the layout? I havent seen many nice looking gold websites... any secondary colours you would like?
The postings on the top of page 6 for casper for the posting for software consultants are really good. Let's move in that direction.
Which entry in particular? It will also help us designers if you can provide suiting images.

Hey everyone,
 Sorry if I wasn't specific enough, sometimes I have to show the ideas to the client to see what they are looking for. I would say the minimal look would be better with this client. lebdesign and Luc posting on march 11th for casper's site we like.
As for the gold color. I agree that gold as a predominant color might not look the best but at least either the border or background shading should use that color.
