Company Name: 2BigFeet.com
Brand Name: P. Bunyan Footwear

Company Description:

2BigFeet.com sells large shoes for men and women, and have been trying to find an affordable, high quality men's dress shoe line up to size 20 to no luck... so we decided to have them made for us. We are manufacturing our own brand of shoes for men with large feet, from sizes 14 - 24 D-4E widths.

UPDATE: Take a look at the pre-production mock-ups of the shoes:
http://www.2bigfeet.com/pbunyan.php

Project Brief:

We need a logo for the private label shoe company, named P. Bunyan after the folk hero. We originally thought of a logo in just a silhouette (black knockout) of a tall lumberjack and his ox (named Babe) with an axe over his shoulder. The Ox behind him slightly as he walked to the left with the name P. Bunyan to the right of the logo.

However, we are open to new suggestions as to the design of the logol, but it has to be simple yet very high quality because these shoes will be priced at about $150/pair. They are comprable to other high-end dress shoes available. The logo will have to be stamped into the sole of the shoe, so must be simple enough to be scaled down to a small size.

Please be creative but remember this brand of dress shoes will be comprable to any other high end shoes such as Johnston & Murphy or Allen Edmonds and must reflect the same high quality.

Deadline:
We have to have this logo finished soon to have the shoes manufactured... they will stamp the logo into the sole of the shoes.

The contest will end on Friday, March 5, 2004.

If you have any questions, you can visit our website at http://www.2bigfeet.com to see more about what we do. If you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing the entries!

Thanks for the great submissons! I had one small error in the original post... the Ox's name was not Blue, it was Babe. Sorry if there was any confusion.

About the entries... I like the first two entries, but they are not images of an ox, they are a steer (cow). pennyln, we especially liked your image. Is there any way you could use an image of an ox? Also, could you possibly show a variation with more of a full body shot to see.

The last submission was very nice as well beatz. The colors look great, especially with the circle but that wouldn't burn well into the sole of a shoe (will all turn out black anyway). Also, could you incorporate an ox into the design, just to see what it looks like?

CBaker14, congrats on finding a pic of an ox! My partner mentioned that he likes the ox and lumberjack but thinks it looks like the lumberjack is cutting his own head off with the ax :) Also, we're not too fond of the font. I was thinking more of a nice serif font like Garamond or similar. It definately has to look upscale even though it's a lumberjack.

Again, thanks for the entries... I hope we'll also get some new artists. I'm always scanning these forums and love to see all the great designs. I know there are more than 4 talented artists here ;)

No problem...I'll fix the lumberjack and change the fonts...I'll see what alternatives I can come up with for you.

Hi again,

glad you like my designs - here is a submission to show you how the logos would look like in all black; as you can see, even the ones with the circle come out pretty nice.

As for the ox - will submit some variations with an ox in it soon. :)

I may have an entry soon.
I know this is tedious, but an ox is any castrated bovine that is used for work only, it is not an actual breed. Well, I am from upstate NY you know....Anyway, great entries everyone.

Hello
Moz here. Just wanted to let you know that the ox Babe is always illustrated as a very long horn. That's why I chose the steer, it really does represent the traditional BABE. Most likely that's why your getting some many "long horns"

I'll be sending a couple more ideas. Thanks for this fun project!

beley,

Was my last attempt more to your liking? Any changes you would like to see?

Thanks,

I've been going over the entries with my business partner... we really like Penny Lane's design with the knockout of the Ox. Its simple and effective. Could we possibly see some variations on the hair/hat? Do you have any ideas what hair or hat might look a little more appropriate? Also my partner mentioned that the hand holding the axe isn't very defined... if it is the hand. If so, could we possibly see some definition such as knuckles around the ax.

We really like the other entries too. Chris, thank you for resubmitting the entry. It looks good, but the lumberjack doesn't have much definition in the head area. And as pointed out by some other people here, I believe an ox may be a cow, not a buffalo.

I was also hoping to see some other entries, possibly even some a bit different. If anyone has any ideas please submit them.

Thanks for the replies. Penny, I really like the changes. I'll call Neil and see what he thinks and post again sometime today.

arthouse, I really like the concept... really simplistic. However, I can't really make out the detail in the head. I'm guessing it's a beard?

Thanks beley. Here's a beardless version for you... any better?

Thanks for the revision... it is much clearer now. And seeing this version I can see the beard in the above.

We'll be picking a winner today, if anyone else has any ideas... even different from what we originally wanted... post them now. I'm guessing we'll decide a winner at about 6 PM EST, that is when we're done packing and shipping orders for the day.

Thanks for all the entries and hard work... they are all excellent.

Thanks to everyone, Penny is the winner. We really like the last design...

If you can possibly trim up his hair so it's not so long, maybe a little more clean cut, I think we've got a perfect logo.

Thanks again to everyone... all the entries were excellent.

Bill,

Despite the log-in name that may appear, this is Neil (the "partner" Beley keeps mentioning.) The logo you did is head & shoulders above the rest (pardon the pun!) I'm still having trouble w/ the head/hair/hat area, though. Looking at it, I get the idea that he's supposed to be walking almost directly away from the viewer, and I like imagining him that way. (If I'm wrong, PLEASE tell me.) But if I'm right, shouldn't he have a neck and an ear on the right side to resemble the one visible on the left?

I appreciate you toning down the haircut! Most of the images I saw online when did a Google image search for "bunyan" show men w/ tight, short haircuts (I.e., no long hairs that flip up at the end.) The one I'm thinking of is:

http://www.bangorinfo.com/Focus/focus_paul_bunyan.html

I'm imagining that the statue in the above photo would have a rather "ordinary" looking head and neck if veiwed from directly behind. I also know that many of the Paul Bunyans out there have sideburns and long beards which doesn't matter because those features would be hidden in a silhouette anyway.

Your P. Bunyan appears to have a beard visible below the axe handle on the right side only. If so, and that means he's walking to the right, then my above observations are moot.

In summary, the biceps, axe, ox, and shoulders are perfect. But the head and neck/beard are leaving me confused. It may be easier for us to talk about this and understand each other over the phone instead of e-mail. Feel free to call me before investing more time into it. Don't worry about the time of day or night. Toll-free 877-840-0743.

I looked at your website. You've done incredible logos. P. Bunyan is simple compared to many of the others, but it's REAL important to us. I appreciate your patience and willingness to make it perfect! --Neil

No problem... I see what you mean. I hope this revision makes sense to you. I was actually thinking he was coming at you, sort of to the right, but that's okay... this version works too.

All I can say is WOW!. Bill, you've done an excellent job... I can't imaging a better P. Bunyan!

You can email the final logo to brandon@2bigfeet.com, my email address. Any vector format is great... I have almost all programs, Illustrator, Freehand, etc. Vector is preferred over tiff, jpg, etc. because we may need to scale the image quite a bit (we have billboards and other large advertisements it may appear on).

Also, what font did you use? We may want to rewrite the name a few different ways on our website for space purposes... is it a freeware font or one we may already have installed?

Thanks again for all your hard work... I'll definately be back next time I need graphic design work done.
