View Full Version : Harry's True Blue Australia - $100
(Admin code added by Palmer - H3LL0Z03)
Hi guys...
A client of mine is starting a small business and is in the process of looking at packaging etc... He has been on quite a few trips Outback Australia and has put together information that he wishes to offer to people overseas.
Anyways, he was showing me his logo and well... it is a photo, no contrast, etc...
So I managed to talk him to having a logo created. However he would like the same logo, just recreated to be vector based. The only thing I ask is if you could somehow incorporate the name with the logo.
Name: Harry's True Blue Australia (Australia can be small)
Here is the current business card
<img src='http://www.demexdesign.com/harry_bizcard.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Here is a close up of Harry and the 4x4
<img src='http://www.demexdesign.com/4x4_harry.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Timeframe: Yesterday :P Likely that a winner will be chosen from the first couple of designs. Would prefer to have something within a week if possible. The short notice is my fault. He wasn't expecting on having a logo designed... lol
Thanks - looking forward to what you come up with!

G'day Mate. I'm moving house at the moment, but should be able to get something in over the next couple of days.
great - looking forward to it. :)
Is the expectation to use the exact photograph, or create artwork based on the photo?
Thanks!
Carl...

Hi
I'll show you something soon.
Cheers
Fabian
Please create artwork based on the photo.
Would still like the map of Australia with a guy leaning on a 4x4. Also wish to include the G'Day text somehow.
So you are creating the same logo, just in vector format.
Colours are not a concern, as he will be using 4 colour process.

I'll try to come up with something :)
Please note: that if possible I would prefer not to use clipart.
If you use clipart please let me know where it was from.

How detailed does this have to be?
Also, does he want this to be simplified, more along the lines of a true logo, or a vector version of exactly what you gave us? (I gave you a little of both...)
Hi Arthouse,
That is looking great. I like the detail you have povided here.
Could you add the flap over the back window like in the photo.
Increase the size of Australia and make it an orange type colour.
Add the word G'Day on Australia above the illustration.
Provide a few more ideas for the placement of Harry's True Blue Australia.
I also think that the wording should possibly be, greens, reds, browns, yellows or oranges....
I am getting excited! : ) Thanks!
I would also be interested in seeing the image a little larger so that I can see the details closer.

A little more detail... oops.. just saw your post and I've gotta run... I'll make those edits tonight!
Thanks,
I think I like the darker colours used on the 4x4 in the first entry better. :) But I like the detail. :)

Do you mean make the map of Australia bigger and orange, or the word?

Lucky for you , my ride was late... ;)
that is looking great.
Leave it for now and I will show Harry. :)
Here's one from MOZ.
Since you're printing process, you can use your picture
PLMK what you think
Hi MOZ,
No sorry. The whole idea is that we don't want to use the photo for scaling purposes.

Here's a quick taste on what im currently working on for you.
thanks! That is coming together nicely. I love Harry! He looks great!

Ok,here it is :)
CM: Thanks, looking really good.
A couple of comments.
Could you please make the 4x4 green like in the photo.
Also the wheels are not quite round.
Harry needs a moustash.
There needs to be a thin divider in the windsheild and could you make the surrounds green instead of white?
Could you remove the divisions of Australia. The colour is great!
Could you bring the Name Harry back together with True Blue and make the word Australia smaller.

Added some more details: tire tread, better highlighting/shadowing, adjusted the color scheme and typefaces.
thanks guys.
They both look great.
I will talk with Harry tonight and let you know our thoughts.
We will probably choose a winner out of one of these two and then start a few revisions. :)
Thanks for the great work.
Ok - I have spoken to Harry and at this stage he is still turning towards his photo.
The reason eing is that he likes the detail and reality of the photo.
If you could work more on Harry and try and make it really look like him I think he will be more likely to go with a vector version of his logo.
See what you can come up with. :)
Thanks

Zoe, do you have other photos of him? Particularly - of his face.
yep - just scanned some in.
Shaddow from the hat though.
Quick entry from me:

Hey is MOZ still in the running?
Remember I used the photo first
Maybe this will help the vector artist
ahhh... are we using Adobe Steamline or something similar?? :D

...here's a draft illustration, the bells and whistles - in the morning :D
It's a reconstruction, so he may not look like Harry... But I did my best ;)
thanks Alex,
I think he will prefer to have it designed from the same perspective.

Alas then :(
Could you show it to him, just in case?... Tell him that details on the car can be added, and that from this angle, the details of the illustration can be seen much better because of the relative size of the figure and the grill in the illustration.
It's just that the rest is redundant, the idea is there: a man leaning to an off-road car.
would you draw the rest of the 4x4 though?
At the moment it could sort of be any type of car. He is dropping by shortly and I will show him. :)

Here's the new and improved face... with the same layout as before. I'm fooling around with the fonts though.

would you draw the rest of the 4x4 though?
Yes, this sounds like a reasonable trade-off :D
Do you want me to draw it and then shw it to him, or will you just show him this variant?
already showed him and he would like you to run with the idea... thumbs up so far. Likes the different perspective as it is different and looks macho!

Mine not what he had in mind?
Thanks,

Hi Liz,
Asked if you had used some type of program similar to Adobe Streamline to create your logo? It is vector based right?
My only thoughts is that some coloured areas don't look quite right... :)
oh, I thought you were asking MOZ :D
It's vector, and strictly Corel. I'd be happy to clean up any areas that are of concern.
I did too! Am I still in the running PLMK
MOZ
Any Changes??? Remember I used the photo idea 1st
MOZ, the problem is that you USED the photo. The whole idea of this competition was to get away from using the photo. If you want to turn the photo into vector then you can continue. :)

Am I confused or what
You said that Harry wants the photo (see above)
Just looking for a straight answer
MOZ
Before I posted this competition, Harry has been using his photo as his logo.
I posted this competition to show him that he shouldn't need to use his photo, as using a 'Photo' as a logo is not the best solution.
As I have said time and time again... I would like the logos to be vector based please.
Thanks...I'm finished
MOZ
Liz: Harry really likes your logo.
Could you please work on tidying up the areas that apear to have been obscured when you converted the photo to vector? The shirt, canvas around the back window and the wheels need the most work.
Could you also remove the brown layer behind the image. Place the photoin a similar placement to what I have shown in the first post. The map of Australia should be a red/brown colour.
I have also included a font that Harry would like to use. All designers may like to try using this font.

cool! I'll work on it as soon as I get home tonight and post then.

Here's an update:
<img src='http://clients.snapfire.com/contests/trueblue2.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
thanks guys I will show Harry. :)
Hi everyone...
I have been talking to Harry and we have gone over all of the logos and have found it REALLY hard to decide. Every logo had certain elements that appealed to us.
But unfortunately there can only be one winner and the winner is
Alex!
It was decided in the end that the different perspective really made Harry more prominent. It was a good choice Alex, to try a different approach.
We would like to see the design in colour as well and also would like a small change made to the step bar at the bottom. It should actually span right across rather than half way.
Could you possibly work on these changes ASAP as I am going to need to create a business card to send to the printer as soon as I can?
AlexKogan

Haven't seen this, Zoe, sorry :)
What colors would you like for the logo? Do you want it to be a full-color or two-three colors design?
Also, I'm really confused with the step bar at the bottom that spans across :) Sorry, which is the step bar and where does it have to span? :D
Could you try and use the same colours that are in the photo.
Colours can be full colour as it doesn't cost much for full colour printing here. (Actually cost more for spot colours) We will also use the black version for other media.
I have attached an image with a circle around the bar. If you could have this stretch right across the car.

here's the B&W with the text and the map.
It will be somewhat difficult to make it a full-color thing, I'll be just making another illustration and it won't work on small scale. If you ask me, I'd suggest to make it a 2-3 colors logo: it'd be much more simple and recognizable than a full color one.
I'll render a simple variant for you to see.
Meanwhile, what do you think of the lettering and the map?
AlexKogan
03-18-2004, 07:33 AM
...something like this:
would really prefer full colour.
Will this require more $$?
Don't need map or lettering anymore.
See attached for what I have done.
keep the map of Australia - It is growing on me...
Don't worry about the text though. I will muck around with that

Ok, Zoe, here's a render. Comments are welcome.
This one I can send in EPS and I doubt that Corel will have problems with it, but just in case - have you got Illustrator at last? :)
EXCELLENT!!
It is just what I wanted. :)
Yes please do send the EPS. Haven't got Illustrator yet but should be OK. :)
