$70.00 logo contest - Ends March 27th

We are in the planning stages of building a website/business that will sell garments and decorative items from India.

Meaning
Nishka by name means pure, unblemished and was used in ancient India to describe Gold.

Products
Our products will range from traditional indian clothing to jewelry to various home decoration items. Basically it can be anything - but will be a product of india. Think Indian Pier1Imports + clothing. :D

Colors/design
We'd like the logo to be simple yet rich and elegant. Logo will dictate the design & colors of the website. Logo should represent a connection to India - maybe a letter modified into a indian saree border or a gold ornament - It should be subtle and not take away from the name. No limitations on color.

I can give more direction based on some samples.

Name
I am not sure if we want to add the .com to the logo. If incorporated, it should be understated yet easy to read.

Contest
Logo will be initially used solely on the Website and eventually as a label on our products.

Prize for this contest is $70.00 USD and the contest ends on March 27, 2004.

Hello Ushkand,
I'd like to submit this design, if I may.
I originally created it for another client, but it wasn't what they wanted.
Please advise.

Thanks cre8or for the submission and I remember your design for ethnicelements. Infact we were thinking of naming our company ethnicindia or something like that but decided against it as we were afraid people would get the wrong idea about our products.

Your design would have been a betterfit if we had decided to go with ethnicindia but for Nishka, we'd like to project a much more refined/sophisticated look. Our products are a fusion of traditional indian culture and modern design. Our logo should reflect the same image.

Here is one of the other submissions that we think is more in line with what we are hoping for:

Thanks again.

Chocolate : you are going in the right direction but we need to work on Fonts and image. I like the way you incorporated the indian connection thru the use of saree but looking at the logo, it seems to say our web store is catered only towards women & sarees.

Like I mentioned in my second post, the example I gave (Raja's earlier design) is the look we are going for, a refined look which is targeted at the image conscious customer. Our logo should project the image of a designer store rather than that of a Walmart or JCPenney :lol2: .

An icon or an image with the name is not a requirement, but we'd like to have something in the name that shows a connection to india. What I originally envisioned was the first | in NISHKA to be tranformed into a saree border, and I into some ear-ring etc. Just some subtle transformations like that.

hope this helps in presenting my needs more clearly. Thanks.

Here's a working layout/design of our website to help you with the image we are striving for.

Thanks.

Do you guys think $70 is too little to have more designers participate in this contest?

A logo concept with just fonts and subtle ethnic elements like saree folds, gold motif, letter 'S' shown as a musical instrument:

Chocolate: I like the design and somewht close to what I'm looking at, but there are few things that I want you to incorporate if possible I.e., the colors need to be more darker and brighter I.e., I just tried my hand at it and added some color
to your image. You see when you look at this image the design and the colors give some kinda of an impression. And also the fonts need to be bold and thicker, not so much visible white space between the letters.

Artemii : The 'namaste' logo looks cool, but the colors and the fonts need some richness.

Well, I changed the sample a bit, as you asked...

Am I heading in right direction?

I am so sorry guys for the lack of feedback from me  . In my defense I was out with little or no access to the internet.

I just came back and will be giving you my thoughts on the entries so far very shortly. I have extended the deadline to March 27 because of this.
