Yep, another Lawn Care logo contest. This is for TJ's Lawn Care, primarily a lawn maintainence company. I have been in business for quite a while, without ever having a set logo or look. I have had a certain font I've used for quite a while, Cooper Black, but I'm not set on that. I'm looking for a whole new logo, a new look. I want something that identifies my company, something I can use on my website, tshirts, stationary, business cards, and vehicle signage. I would be needing all the usual files, vector and etc.

These following links show what my website look like and some of the advertising and tshirts I have had in the past. I have used a lawnmower guy on my logo, a cheapie clip art guy.

http://tjslawncare.com/pics/logostuff/tshirts.gif

http://www.tjslawncare.com

http://tjslawncare.com/pics/logostuff/sign2.gif

http://tjslawncare.com/pics/logostuff/asign.jpg

I am not real committed to any of those examples or advertising, like I said, but I do like the look of the dark green and black in those signs. I also liked the use of the grass image in the aeration sign, although I'm not sold on it. The colors on my website, green, black, white, yellow and blue, have been the colors I've always considered with my designs.

I really like the work done in this contest for Lawn-Tek: http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showt...opic=2554&st=45 (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showtopic=2554&st=45)

Particularly, I like the concept of creating an identifiable character. I have used that lawn mower guy as I said, and I wouldn't mind a take off on that kind of idea. The work done on that Lawn-Tek contest was great and I'd love to get a similar result.

Other than those references and ideas, I'm wide open to all ideas and concepts. I hope that you all have room for yet one more Lawn Care logo to design!

Thanks

Tom

PS The legal name of the company is TJ's Lawn Care, LLC.

This isn't finished yet, but I wanted to see if you liked the superhero concept before I went any further with it. Let me know!

Honestly, I don't really like that. Not to be rude, the superhero idea just doesn't appeal to me. I like the man idea, but it's a bit too cartoonish.

I am somewhat dismayed that I haven't received more response to this contest. Did I do something wrong?

Taldo, I kinda like that. Can you change the font a bit? I like the concept, but the t and j kinda get lost a little and it looks a little like a u. Can you somehow make the t and j more distinct?

Design General, I'm not really into the wizard. Not really lawn care related. I'm sorry.

Hi--I'm not an illustrator, and I don't use clip art, so I've not entered this contest because of your desire for a character. However, I'm going to throw this in just to give you some options.

Have a good weekend!

Julie

JulieT: I like those designs. If possible, could you maybe try to incorporate the name into the image, make the image a bit bigger? I like the blue and green colors. I really like the work you did, and the theme of many of the other entries, in this contest:

http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showt...=carolina&st=15 (http://www.designoutpost.com/forums/?showtopic=2268&hl=carolina&st=15)

And although the idea of a character is intriguing to me, I am not committed to it. The whole reason I started this contest was so I could get away from the clip art guy I've used in the past. As I said in my first post, I'm open to all ideas.

Also, I am willing to go a bit longer on the deadline if necessary.

:D :D

Well, then, I'm glad you liked the designs. Here are some variations and another idea for you...

Julie

Blackspot and Eagle, those are both nice designs but don't really appeal to me. Blackspot, I'd like to do more with a design and depend less on the lettering of the name. Eagle, the wrench doesn't do much for me, or the guy. Although I do like the striping idea. I'm sorry if I'm not being specific enough, I don't really have any set ideas what I want, just basing off of what appeals to me.

Julie, I like the top left and bottom right designs. If you could somehow get the bottom right design all inside a border like the top designs. Also, I'm not real hot on the font for the bottom right one, if you could change it to the top left style font maybe? Anyway we could work in the phone # and/or website address? And maybe also do one with two hills?

I'm still wide open to other ideas, as well.

Here's the revision you asked for. By the way, if you like the design for Carolina Landscape, I can always revise it for you--I haven't sold it, yet.

Let me know if you'd like that.

Hmm, maybe I would like to see that. Maybe a cross between what you've done for me so far and that one? And I like the one with the two hills you did above. Can you use the lighter blue color, and maybe toss in a yellow sun in the background too?

Sorry, I didn't see yours there when I replied to JulieT. :o

I'm sorry to keep saying this to people, but it just didn't appeal to me. I really do appreciate your continual efforts. I'm looking for something a bit more distinct, something that has more than just the lettering to it. I want it to be somewhat different from a lot of the other lawn care logos I have seen, something to set me apart. I'm not exactly a graphic artist, and haven't ever been able to come up with something more than a variation on lettering the name. So I kinda want something that doesn't necessarily focus on the lettering, but creates a unique visual to associate with the name.

I hope that helps??

Thanks Julie. I was thinking today about the logo, and I think that enclosing it in a border somewhat limits what I can do with it. Maybe go without the border, somewhat like the CLS logo? I do like the 2 hills like what you have done, though. I'd like to see that with a sun like with the CLS logo.

I anxiously await your response.

Hi--

I sqeezed in a quick revision this morning before work. Is this going in the right direction? By the way, I've included a gradient version--its the second from the bottom. It would probably be expensive to reproduce, but if that's not a concern, it's there for you.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, busy day.

I really like those Julie. I like the bottom 2 the best. Can I see that bottom one without the gradient? Also, can you do one where you maybe play with the shape of the blue background a bit? Make it oval-ish, or open instead of the rectangular area? I'd also like to see if you could fit the phone in as well somehow. I really like what you're doing.

Thanks!

Okay JulieT, we're getting close. I really like the top left one. Two requests. Can I see it with a little different color scheme? Closer to the colors in the update table on this page of my website:

http://www.tjslawncare.com/updates.html

And could you do a version in a whole circle? Maybe add my address and email under the phone/website inside the circle?

Thanks Julie. We're almost to what I'm looking for, I think.

Dynagirl, thank you for your entry. That logo, unfortunately, looks rather similar to another lawn company in town here. I don't think I could use that.

Julie
03-23-2004, 04:52 PM
Hi--Here's your revision. I'm going to add a concern of mine here--I think if you add too much text, you end up weakening the impact of your logo. You're approaching that level with the phone number and website, but possibly exceeding it with the addition of your address and email.

That's my professional opinion, but as the CH, you can do what you like :) It's just something to think about.

Julie, I think I'm down with the semicircular version from your last post. And I totally agree with you on the info now that I see it. But, I'm not crazy about the colors. I didn't realize how much my color scheme clashed on my website! Can you darken them up a bit, kinda play around with them a bit? Try the lettering in both green and blue? I think it's obvious that you're the winner, I'd just like to see a little bit of color variance.

Also, would you have an ideas for a business card and/or letterhead version with that design?

Thanks JulieT! I'm really glad you entered the contest!

Julie

I'm happy you're pleased with the results here at DO! I've attached a few more logos, and I can talk to you about a letterhead and business card design after we're finished up here.

Let me know where we should go from these four.

Thanks,

Julie :)

Can you try something with the blue you used in this version? I like the darker green in the left sided logos above.

I like the blue and yellow of the first one, the greens in the second one, and a mixture on the letters. Maybe the name lettering in green, with the phone # and web address in blue?

Also, can you do a sample black only outline of the logo?

Thanks a bunch, Julie!!

Looks good Julie. I only have 1 further request. Can you shift the sun over a bit to the left? the way it is now, it kinda looks like an old vinyl record a bit, especially in the black. Oh, and, can you do a black and white one without coloring in the sky, just outlining it? Then I think we're all set. I'd like to discuss maybe a business card and letterhead design. I'll need copies of the design in the appropriate file forms.

Thanks!
