View Full Version : euphonica - electronic music retailer - $100
(Admin code added by 2Square - 952590W)
hi all-
came across this site and felt it might help me get in touch with just the right designer for the job... after logo design will likely come various other design work (business cards, flash animations, banner ads, etc.)
the name of the company is: euphonica
I have a preference for non-capital lettering, but if the font style is strong and unique enough, all-capital lettering would be permitted... not a mixture of capitalization, however... font style would be very contemporary
for colors... I'd prefer blues and blue/purples... but am willing to open my mind to other colors if you have an inspiration...
graphics should be simple, yet dramatic...
and keep this in mind... my main focus will be selling electronic music (dance/trance/techno/etc.)... so I am looking for something ultra dynamic and eye catching... bold and mesmerizing... have fun, and good luck! :)
-paul
format note: definitely want the final design in a vector format... adobe illustrator if possible... also in a lossless bitmap format (.psd or .tif)

thanks for submitting... I like the offset of the name inside the box so that it touches the edges like that... but I'd like there to be more than just one color and I don't really care for the thin lines at all... more bold! :)

it is simple and bold, yes... but I need something more energizing
mowling-
you're on the right track, fontwise... would like more than just one color, though...
pennyln-
sans serif font types would be preferable... of your designs, the last one shows most promise...
carlos-
adding more thin lines wasn't what I had in mind... its rather distracting...

What about something grunge?
carlos(esparza)
03-09-2004, 09:17 PM
cool, I'm glad you didn't like that one actually . . . I wasn't quite sure what you meant though.
here are a couple more ideas= a strictly bold wave form and a digital VU meter.
do you feel like this simple type face is good though? in the digital music world I's about a half and half grouping of designs with really complex fonts and designs with really simple fonts--which is more appropriate for your company?
-carlos
arthouse-
I hadn't originally thought about going grunge... but the idea is not appalling... maybe go with it a bit and see where it leads...
-paul
carlos-
re: simple vs. complex fonts... I would have to say simple would be my preference, but I cannot rule out a complex font which fits this music scene...
VU meter is a better path than the wave...
everyone-
in a perfect world, the designer of this logo will come from a background where the music I am selling is a staple in their own CD collection... this will help immensely in design ideas correlating with the message I want my logo to state...
euphonica is about many things... mostly its about mind-numbing, hypnotic synth melodies that soothe our senses and about technology-laden, pulsating rhythms that drive our souls...
I know I'm being a bit abstract... but that is what this is...

Jean Michel Jarre
Tangerine Dreams
Jan Hammer
Vangelis
Mike Oldfield
ok... before I reply to all of the latest submissions, I've decided to put together some colors I find very attractive... other colors may be added as well, but I wanted to give you all more of a feel on what I'm looking for as far as blue blue/purple... the color on the top layer #8040FF (bottom left square) is about my favorite color in the universe... so incorporating that color somehow will score some points for sure ;)
black is a necessity somewhere to create the boldness I desire...
hope this image comes out ok... its in the png-8 format...
ok... now I'll reply to the earlier submissions...
cbaker14-
#4 of your grouping definitely catches my eye... especially the e... I like that effect of a white object with a colored glow around it... the font has to go, though... not a fan of serif fonts... play around with arrangement of the graphic and name too...
bethie-
these logos are a bit hard to read for me for lack of contrast, especially the first one... and I'm definitely not looking for a square-ish kind of logo... nice choice of colors, however
dynagirl-
interesting idea... needs some black or something to make it jump out a bit more...
arthouse-
I'm glad you're having fun with the fonts... :) I definitely want people to have fun with this project... fun breeds creativity... the last font is kind of cool... try working with that one and building a graphic to support it... the gradient in the font is a plus as well... like it!

I did, but for some reason, when I call out the colors in the program, by the time I optimize the graphics for the web, the colors are skewed. How's this?
arthouse-
still not hitting it... so it looks different on your original? maybe try png-24 for putting it here? or is that too large of a file?

hello paul,
I've been playing with the VU-meter idea, and have come up with this (which also includes a home made font) . . . in two different colorings:
any thoughts?
-carlos
cursal-
turntable... hmmm... interesting... the remainder is much too squared off... of the fonts you used, the first one is best...
arthouse-
after looking at the png file I created there is a slight distortion in my original colors... the intended colors were to be R/G/B:
bottom left: 128/64/255 (#8040FF)
top right: 0/64/192 (#0040C0)
bottom right: 64/32/128 (#402080)
hopefully that helps...
dbenton25-
whoa... I would have never guessed you could even do that... creative points for sure... not too fond of the curve above it, nor that color... too pinkish...
cbaker14-
wrong font... I don't like this font at all... it was the one right below this one in your earlier post... the blurry e is cool as hell (despite the font, blah)... it fits well with my trance theme...
carlos-
yes! I love your homemade font... that is creative... you're hitting it right on...

its both, actually... I like your original idea best... the white e with a glow... maybe the glow could be one of my colors I posted on page 3... and the lettering could be that color or another color... maybe try putting the font underneath the e... maybe through the e somehow... not sure...

I'll do you both gradient versions (for web) and spot colour (for print)...you can use the gradient versions for print as well though...just a bit more expensive...
Any suggestions for colours? :)
Must get a good night's kip now though...I'll get to work on the revisions in the A.M.! :)

Hi Paul
Ok, I've taken a look at your colour selection. The main problem will be matching the blue, bottom left on those swatches, when you go to print. Without going too deep, the colour is very intense and as such is 'out of gamut' I.e. it can only be reproduced on a monitor. :(
There is no problem at all designing your logo with those exact colours if all you will use it for is on the web...however, when it comes to printing time, you will have great inconsistency between 'on screen' and 'on paper' colours!
Let me know if you really wish to have those colours, like I say, it's no problem for web use only! B)
These colours below will be able to be closely aproximated in print... :)
yes! I like the second all-blue one... one more idea... the eye... care to see what it might look like if it were more like a spiral instead of circles?
my thinking: this guy is in a trance listening to this music that's causing an aural explosion in his mind! ;)
what do you think?

So it's a go then? <img src='http://www.eagleimagery.co.uk/smil3y/eaglebrow.gif' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
If so, I'll supply all the usual files...
Also, if you can specify a size in pixels for the web version (the 'glossy' one) I'll prepare one for you as well.
yes, definitely a go!
I'm not sure about the final size for the website... ummm... take a look at the shopping cart (still under development) at http://www5.instantestore.net/merchant7711/ maybe you can think of a proper size for that?
do you have my email address for the files?
also... need to discuss other projects (banner ad, desktop background, business card, etc.)... what's the easiest method?
