Logo for online mobile phone retailer : $100
Deadline 14 days - 24th march 2004
My Webpage (http://www.themobileoutlet.co.uk)
hi all,
We are a mobile phone retailer, our website is currently getting a revamp and would like a new logo designed.
To be completely truthful we are open to any suggestions, and dont have very many guidelines as to what the designer needs to abide by.
A couple of pointers:
We do alot of affiliate marketing so the logo is used on banners, sometimes which are fairly small. ideally a small neat logo, simple in design yet still making an impression is what we are after.
Colours - Not too fussed as long as we can carry the theme of the banner to the website, we are inthe process of a redesign for the current website , which is fairly plain, we probably want to go with greys lighter shades and nothing really strong and overpowering.
The logo should be designed with the thought in mind that it may appear on invoices/business cards/ letterheads etc etc so ideally must look in black and white as well as colour.
new design (http://www.themobileoutlet.co.uk/design/index3.asp)
There are a number of mobile phone companies whose logo's I am quite impressed with:
www.mobileshop.co.uk
www.mobilerepublic.com
Both these logos are eye cathching fairly modern and go well with the websites they are designed for.
I have a 14 day deadline, so ideally if we can have something back for the 24th March that would be great.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions I shall do my best to answer or guide anyone if required.
We would like to find a designer we can use for other projects which in all honesty run almost on a weekly basis, so bear this in mind....work we may require...button designs, banner designs, flash designs, page redesigns.
Thanks and happy designing!!

Hi Bethie,
thanks for that....I'm surprised I got something back so quick. Ok I was thinking of something more of a symbol in all honesty, if you revert to the websites I have recommended for their logos you'll see that there is a specific logo design. Something simpler..... I'm sorry if I cant be more specific. We want a logo as well as the text, rather than text.... hey but good try.
The colours on the website we are designed will not remain that colour so splease dont base your logo colours on the site..... thanks.
we are probably gonna go for softer colours....light greys and blues ...pastels etc rather than the stronger colours....

Thanks for these....GoodHaus Graphics Ok its not really what I'm looking for I think that the style that youve used wont fit with the website. What I am gonna suggest is that we get rid of the 'the' and maybe use just 'mobile outlet'....
Blackspot...once again thanx for the design but it really is too texty......and it would be hard for us to fit this sort of design onto banners etc that I was mentioning earlier.
Keep trying....if we are gonna use a symbol we need to come up with something a bit more impacting...... we hope to use this logo for many years to come so it cant fade away with the time...
thanks and keep trying....

It seems to me you want to have something simple that makes a point (?). Here is something simple that will work in well to a banner with the color from your new site.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for todays entries....
Ok blackspot....I'm thinkng the designs your sending may be a touck too classic for a mobile phone retailer....eventually we should have some nice looking animation on the site and buttons so I dont know if this will fit into the site...
Keep away from the maroon on the new website...I dont think we will use that colour.... so ideally please dont use the colours from the site as the colour is again is temporary.....
thanks for for putting in thier designs and hopefully I shall have some more to look at in the morning

hi everyone,
thanks for the latest designs...Radicall seed this is definetly the sort of thing I am looking for....a logo designed around the initials of the company Mayber create an image based around the initials MO - and then have the mobile outlet writen with that, we may want to drop 'the' just to make the logo a little neater looking...
can you throw some more ideas based around that theme but a tad different??
Blackspot thanks again for your design..... I like it but again if you could create a symbol of some kind with the initials and then have the complete name that would be good...
Try 3 d effects possibly.....some different colours etc ..... Everyone thanks for all your efforts.

Will be working on something today.
we may want to drop 'the' just to make the logo a little neater looking If I may throw my 2 cents in here...
If your company is The Mobile Outlet (and your website as well), you might want to keep the "the" in the logo as to not confuse people. Again, just my 2 cents.

Hi All
I work with Teefy and I had some comments regarding the design. I was hoping these may help you guys get closer to what we need and want.
Blackspot
Your comments about The being part of the name are true, but we also have the url www.mobileoutlet.co.uk, so this would not make much of a difference having 'the' included or not. We were thinking it might be easier to present a logo based on MO rather than TMO. It's just a case of finding a balance with the logo. We find the idea of having the emphasis on MO appealing. The MO logo you have done looks nice, but the text used for The Mobile Outlet may be too simple. I suppose it's having the balance between being simple, but having greater impact. So if you can think of a way we could achieve this, that would be great. The 3-d effect is pretty cool. As the website is quite simple, and a 3-d image will lift the page and have the type of effect we are looking for.
I hope my comments have helped, and I look forward to seeing you implementig these ideas.
Thanks for the designs so far. Much appreciated.

Hi Naman,
That helped a lot, thanks. Now that I know you own both domains, it makes more sense why you wouldn't want the "the" in there. I should have some new designs based to the "MO" graphic soon.

Thanks for the designs. Both look very nice and effective. Out of the 2 designs I prefer the second one. Could you show ths design in different colour variations? This design is very professional and the way the M and O are illustrated to capture an image of a phone is pretty cool.

Hi All
I am came in this morning was very surprised to have so many designs waiting for me. I have added comments about each new design below. I hope my comments help.
Black Spot
I think the design is original, but I think the actual size of the logo may be too large. I know the size can be adjusted, but each logo has a size at which it looks most effective. Maybe seeing the logo in the actual size it will be used may help. Also, could you show the design in perhaps a variation of colours. The effort you have put in so far is much appreciated.
Hi Raja
The design looks cool. Could you show me a few other variations in colour. I prefer the way Mobile Outlet was displayed in your first attempt. Could we have this with the MO logo (display picting a phone) in the following colours. Dark blue and Light BLue, Light Blue and Grey and Dark BLue and Grey. So if you could show the design with the MO displayed in the above colours - it would be appreciated.
GoodHaus Graphics
Thanks for the design, It looks quite unique, but I am not to sure about the actual logo for the MO. I think we want something which is maybe a bit more simple looking, but have the impact which we need. Perhaps you could show some other ideas incorporating the MO.
Fuse Design Studios
This is a nice logo, looks pretty good. I like the font used for the text mobileoutlet. My main concern would be based on the colours. We have a site based on a white back ground, so the white text would not look as effective. I think we need to see a design based on the white background to make a complete judgement.
Radical Seed
The desing looks effective, but is probably too bold and loud for what we are looking for. From the designs we have been shown, those we are finding more suitable have the simple text and a relatively small logo based on the MO. Nice work though.
Carlos
The logo does not have to incorporate a phone, so theres no problem there. The design is simple, but perhaps too simple. From what I have noticed, the text used for Mobile Outlet, does make a difference on the logos I have seen. I know we want a simple design, but I think when the text gets to simple - it has less effect and does not appeal off the page as we would like it to do.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the great design we have had so far. We are definately moving in the right direction. I hope my comments have been constructive and have helped, and I am definately looking forward to seeing more high quality work.
Keep it up!

Looks nice. Could you show me this logo with the writing in a dark blue, and the round images in a light blue. I would like to see how his colour scheme would look. The url I have given below shows the construction of our new webpage. Ignore the red, as we have not decided what colour would look the best. So I suppose the colour of the logo will be represented within this setup. If you have any other colour suggestions, do hot hesitate to let me know.

The logo does not look as effective on the white background as you loose the shadow effect. This is a really nice effect. Any ideas how the designs on the white background could be lifted to have a stronger effect. The logo looks much more effective on the grey, but unfortunately we would not be able to incorporate the grey background colour into our current template design.

Naman,
Here's are the changes you requested. I dropped the grey background, but kept the drop shadow.
Originally, the grey background and drop shadow were used as a presentation effect. I agree that it adds a nice "punch" to your logo and would look good on your website.
The way the logo is designed now, the "balls" use a gradient. This will cost more when sent to print. If this is ok, the drop shadow can also be used when printed. This will also add a very nice "pop" to your business cards, letterhead, invoices, etc. If cost of printing is a concern, I can make the balls one solid color, but I am afraid we may also have to lose the drop shadow effect. I hope this makes sense.
Let me know what you think.

Hi Jayson
Thanks for the changes. The design looks very nice. This is definately one of the nicest designs I have seen so far. I like the presentation effect, but if we have to loose the effect, then the logo will not carry the same effect. I will definately check out the printing costs and work out exactly how much of a difference having such a design would make. On another note, I do like your style of work, and was wondering whether you would be able to prodcue any more designs which we could look at. Perhaps using the style of having an image based around the MO letters.
Thanks for the work so far. Much appreciated.

Hi Everyone
Blackspot.
Sorry, I did miss the revisions as I was posting my comments. The logo is nice, but probably not quite what we are looking for. The text and design is probably not as clear and concise as some of the other designs. From my conversations with my co-workers, I think we want to try and go for something more corporate looking. This would mean the Logo would have to incorporate a very simple and sleek look. Sorry to be a pain, but if you could have a rethink it would be greatly appreciated.
Design Fuse Studios.
Thank you for your latest attempt. The style of text you have used for Mobile Outel looks great, but we are not sure about the MO with the 2 phones. We would like to see something with greater clarity and definition. Let me know if you have any thoughts on revisions.

Hey Fabian. Nice idea. We are not too sure about the font used for Mobile Outlet. Could you use something which retains the simple and professional look, but has that added imapct. This text perhaps looks too simple, and perhaps would not have the impact on the page we are looking for. Let me know what you think.
ArtHouse
Thanks for getting a design to us so quickly. Could you provide a few colour variations of this logo, and show example with The included in the text and without it. We are not to sure whether to include the as we also have the url www.mobileoutlet.co.uk. We are mainly looking at using a variable blue shades within the website, complimented by greys. This one definately has potential.
Thanks everyone for the logos so far.

Hi Blackspot
Sorry about all the confusion. A 3-d effect would look nice, but it depends on the logo. The comment in my previous post, may have been a bit misleading. I based my comments on the designs I have seen since our post was uploaded. The designs which have been most appealing are those who have based their designs on clarity and a sharpness. We are definately intrested in having a 3 dimensional based logo as our website has a very simple look to it. Something to lift the page and give it that finishing touch. So I appreciate I may have confused you by my comments. Overall I do think your logo was nice, but it shifted away from the clear and concise look of our site. When I try to picture the logo you had produced on our template - it did not have the impact and lift we are looking for. Hope my comments help.

Thumbs up. Looks very cool. Could you try working both logos together. Perhaps remove the smaller O from the main mobileoutlet text - and replace it with a standard O. It may loose its effect if its repeated twice within the same logo. Also light blue and grey colour varaiation would be appreciated. I'd like to see the logo in a small er size - closer to the size required on the website.

I did my best to follow what corrections you wanted. If this is what you were looking for I think you can see that it looks better without the two "o's".
If I made incorrect changes, let me know.
I personally like the light blue and grey better.
I wanted the logo to work well complete (mobileoutlet) and with the icon (mo symbol).
I also added one that I've been holding onto since you made the move towards the "mo" symbol. This is one of my favorites and just wanted to get it out there for you to see.

Hi Fuse
I think my explanation for the changes were not great. What I want to try and do is incorporate both logo's into one. Using the MO design as the main focus of the logo. So I think out options are as follows (don't hold me to this, if you have any ideas - let me know) Having the MO displayed centrally above the text, mobile outlet, or having the MO, and the text mobile outlet displayed to the right of it. As the MO logo will be the main focus, this I think should be larger in scale than the mobile outlet text. I also think keep the MO logo as it is, but replace the floating O with a standard O in the mobile outlet text. I hope this makes sense- I think I am even confusing myself.
Let me know what you think.

If you have any other ideas or designs, they would be much appreciated. Thanks for the try though. If you do have any further ideas, could you show them in blues and light greys - as this is the colour we are moving towards.

Hi Design General
The entries you have done so far are quite not what we were looking for. The colour schemes are fine, but the designs do not have quite the impact we were hoping for. The deigns which have appealed so far, are the ones who have used simple and effecteive text, but had a strong impact. Logos which we would not have a problem basing our brand around. If you have any other ideas on how you could present our logo, there is still time and any entries will be appreciated and looked at.
