View Full Version : Logo for a new church

We are a fairly new fellowship (about 3 1/2 years old) and have no logo. We recently purchased some land and have built a multi-purpose facility. We are presently putting together an outdoor sign at our entryway in preparation for Easter so any quick response you may have would be greatly appreciated. We are growing and we see many new opportunities to reach out to our community. We fashion ourselves as a "church for the unchurched." Our dress is casual, worship is very contemporary (worship band w/drums, etc.). Certainly not tradtional in style but yet very orthodox in message. We want to grab the attention of the unchurched to know that they are loved and accepted here. We also want them to know that we practice a "real" message and try to be practical to today's world with the message of God's love and forgiveness. Being a VINEYARD church lends itself to a vineyard, grapes, even the wine of communion. I'd like something simple and contemporary and reproducible. Our name is actually the "Vineyard of Licking County" but wish to be recognized in the community as the "Vineyard" or Vineyard church. We need to be careful to use something Christian in the logo (ie. a cross, etc.) or people will think we are a vineyard (wine producing company). Attached is a logo I've been using but it certainly needs help. Hey, what can I say -- I sure appreciate your willingness to help us out. Steve

For additional information about our ministry, you can check us out on the web: www.vineyardlc.com Once we have a logo, we'd be happy to credit Design Outpost and add you as a link on our site if you'd like.

A quick and simple idea that came to me earlier.

Dear Jeff,
I like the cross but it is a bit on the thin side to be recognizable as such. Could you play with the cross and grapes (or cross and vines maybe like a crown of thorns) as a logo without using the church name at all. I'd like for people to kind of identify us by the logo like the Nike check mark. Everyone knows what's behind it without seeing the word Nike. I don't know -- maybe contemporize it a bit (slant it or 3 crosses or something). We're not too traditional so you can have some freedom.

Thanks for helping us out.

Hi Victoria,

My wife really like the intertwined grapes around letters and I like the idea but it was a little too cartoonlike for me. Maybe use the initials VLC in a monogram kind of way with vines and grapes. Big V, smaller L and C. Like I told Jeff, I'm looking for more of a logo than a full banner or letterhead like of thing.

You guys are great for helping us out and everything I've looked at on your site is very tasteful and distinguished. I know you are all overloaded but please know that it is greatly appreciated!

Hello, I made some quick changes to see if I was heading in the right direction.

Thanks for such a quick response. How about the V being central and the LC below or somehow into a monogram-like logo with grapes a little more distinct or with some vines. I thought maybe even a slanted cross underlaid behind it -- what do you think? I placed just a line cross over what you have and have attached it (but I could only do it in Microsoft Publisher). It wouldn't save as a jpg. If you can't view it -- no problem -- all it is is your VLC with a slanted cross over it from top left to bottom right. I hope that helps.

Thanks again,
Steve

It wouldn't upload the Pub file -- just gave you your logo back.

Sorry,
Steve

One more try. I've placed it into a Word file to see if that will work.

Here are 3 other options for you to review. Please bear in mind any shadows can be easily removed if need be. :) I hope i've stuck to the ideas you had.

Only a suggestion Victoria, you may want to make them bigger so we can see them better. 300x200 is a good canvas to work with.

Thanks Palmer, good idea. Here they are a bit bigger. ;)

Hi Victoria,

I like Number two style lettering but I like #1 with the cross. Can you make the V even bigger and the LC smaller (of #2) and place the cross in it like #1 but make the cross rough wood like a vine so it looks like it is susposed to be there. I think this logo would be good for T-shirts, around the church signage, etc. I like Jeff's for the big sign out front because the vine reminds me of the crown of thorns (but I'll comment to him next). Maybe with those changes you can forget me and go on to someone else in need, too.

Thank you so much for working on this.

Super Jeff!

I get the feel of the top vines like a crown of thorns. I like all four but I think the first one is perfect for the sign I'd like to get out front. Can you kind of tilt the vines forward a bit to give a circular effect (more like a crown)? Could you use a font that is a little uneven like vines. I looked through my fonts and found Tempus Sans ITC that it kind of like that. Make "VINEYARD CHURCH" in all caps and then "of Licking County" in lower case. Finally, you used 3 crosses in one of Conviction Youth Ministries logos. Could you place one (or all three) of them into it somehow. If it doesn't look right just drop that idea. I just like the symbolism of the vine, the crown of thorns, the fruit (of the Spirit) and the cross that ties it all together.

Again, thanks -- I like it a lot!
