$100 - logo contest Deadline April 1

Im a 2 year old landscaping property maintenance company lacking a logo for my truck ,trailers, shirts and letterhead. I would like something that stands out but still easy to read with my PHONE # (905- 835 2639) and possible web address, at this time I haven't got a web address, but may have one soon.
The company name is LAKE ERIE PROPERTY MAINTENANCE(555 835 2639) and I am pretty much open to any ideas you might have on the design and color scheme. My 2 trucks are one red one white. Something nautical would me nice but not a necessity. I will need all formats for future web site. and color variations for white truck and red truck I think blues may be nice for white truckand trailer.
my main concern is that my company name is highly visable and legible on my trucks
I liked the bold logos that were done for Extreme Green lawn care a few weeks back and blue colors in Archer lawn care, but want it EASY TO READ

I would like to close out the contest by April 1 if this is not enough time please let me know. Thanks in advance for considering my contest and I look forward to seeing your designs.I know you guys will do a great job.
Ps I will be out of town Mon. Tues next week but will log on as soon as I am back
thanks Craig

03-14-2004, 11:23 AM
Matt: really like the design, not sure about the green and gold together - could you try replacing the gold in first design with green..... I would like to see what the logo would look like in green and blue. Like the gold a lot with the blue but feel maybe green needs to be in it to suggest landscaping......any suggestions would be most welcome!

Hi, Craig. Is the extension of the file "jpg" or "jpeg"? If latter, I'd suggest you change it to "jpg", it may be the cause of the rejection. Also, there's a max size you can post, if the image is greater than that - it's rejected.

Cheers :)

Craig...I think the Gold and blue looks good and I do like it with green as well. The gold adds more of an official look to the logo. I wouldn't use any pastels. I work fulltime for a sign company and usually when we have full color graphics going on a dark background such as red...the only thing you can really do aside from making the whole logo one light color...you can put a white vinyl outline around the logo...like I did. Let me know if you would like to see any other colors in your logo.

thanks,
Matt

-Design General Im really starting to lean twords your turquois color and the green you are using instead of the dark blue and green I first thought I wanted ,yours looks warmer and not so cold corporate looking ,but would like to see a different tree design either contained in the sun or branching out of the sun. the logo I like is the one without the lake the, just the tree in the sun.
-Dyna girl just change the grass style not the wave style again I would like to see a sample in brighter colors as well.

And here it is on the trucks. The colors might not work well on the reed truck, so I've also shown an alternate red truck with lighter colors (or you could always go with a pure white logo on teh red truck).

Hi everyone......sorry for not giving any feedback for awhile! We needed a bit of a breather to really look at all of the wonderful concepts you have given us :)
I don't think we have quite what we are looking for yet, but if you are all willing we have some revisions to suggest........

Mowling: We love your design but feel it is a bit too nautical.
Wondering if you could come up with something along these lines:

1) everything the same but delete the wave lines around the porthole and instead add in stylized evergreens, shrubs etc. following the same triangular shapes you have on each side of porthole now. Maybe use original lighthouse pic without the treeline. Could you use a brighter blue-turquoise and green (the evergreens etc. might look good in shades of green...?

2) everything the same but use a different pic in the porthole. Thinking of pines on boulders in water or some such idea.....just to bring a landscape feel to the design....any other ideas?

3) could you try a new type style (old, wealthy, wooden boat era feel) and bring the porthole down so that it comes between Lake and Erie...then underneath a stylized wave line and under that Property Maintenance.....Lake Erie a bit larger and bolder than Property Maintenance but not a lot....I hope I've explained this ok......maybe still sneak in something small that connotates landscaping too......can't wait to see what you come up with! thanks Matt, Craig

Dynagirl: We really think the clean simplicity of your design is great. I'm leaning towards the #2 03-21-04 with the sand. Can we see that design on the two trucks please? Love the colours.

Also could you try something else with the graphic? thinking if the grass was put in the centre of sand instead of off to side, and then the whole graphic boxed (except the wavy bottom) and the tops of the grass sticking out of box.....and maybe the graphic inserted between Lake and Erie? Could you play around with this idea a bit? thanks, Craig

Design General: We like the type styles you used very much and the stylized wave line is awesome! (last design posted) Also think the way the sun is fragmented at bottom subtly portrays the idea of snow - really nice! Just not keen on the size of sun and tree in it......could the sun be smaller and a more stylized, modern tree be substituted - again soming out of the top and sides of sun....? thanks, Craig

Waxwing: We've had lots of favourable comments on your first design! We like the way the Lake Erie looks like a retaining wall. Could we see this design on the trucks please? Also like to try Property Maintenance in green and on truck as well.

Waxwing Design #2....very nice. gets across both nautical and landscaping themes. Could you change the colours though.....brighter green(grass colour) for tree and grass, white lettering and turquoise-blue for sky?

Waxwing Design #3.....we like the concept, but don't really like the green boxed area around Lake Erie...could you do a thicker border around circle and maybe tie the border in to rest of design for a more stylized, modern look. We'd also like to see a different type style. thanks,Craig

Juvanescence:  looks great! We would be interested in seeing any other fonts that you think would add to the feel of this graphic - this font looks good, but would just like to see what else would work. Could you try two greens that contrast more for the tree and try Lake Erie in blue and Property Maintenance in green? Any other design ideas you have incorporating this graphic are most welcome :)
We would like to see the designs on our red and white trucks too.
Thanks, Craig

Thanks to everyone for all revisions - we know you guys are extremely busy and appreciate the attention you have given our contest so far. :D We are so impressed with all of the designs but are getting a feel for what is and isn't working on our trucks.....we need the designs to have a solid, filled-in feel to them so that they stand out on the trucks, as Mowling's and Waxwing's do. So if you all can make a few more revisions ;) we should be able to narrow it down shortly.

Thanks again to everyone, here are the revisions...........

Waxwing:

Could we please see your Mar 15 post on both red and white trucks?

Your Mar 25 11:52 (oval design) post - just the colours we would like to change.....on the negative background could you try a dark green instead of the dark blue, and do the sky a mid turquoise-blue. Lettering as is, white. On trucks as well please.

Your Mar 25 1:08 posting - this is very strong on the trucks! We would like to see the circle put on the left side leading into the name, and could you try a more turquoise-blue for background and a bright tree-green for areas where you now have white.

Thanks, Craig

Juvanescence: We like the first post you gave us the best.....on the trucks it seems to float though, any ideas on a border, background etc. that would tie the design together more and make it stand out on the trucks better? Like the wave though, don't want to lose that......thanks very much, Craig

Dynagirl: I like your design so much but it seems to suit business card or shirt logo size much better than it does for the trucks.....have you come up with any sort of boxed idea yet? Love to see it if you do! Thanks a lot, Craig

Here is another concept.

Waxwing: thanks for your revisions - we like the colours on oval design much better, it looks great on the trucks. I think we prefer this one to the one with the circle although it also really makes a statement on the trucks. Still looking to see your Mar 15 10:36 posting ( one that looks like it has retaining wall in it)..... we like that design a lot and need to see what happens with it on the trucks.
Thanks very much,
Craig

Dynagirl: nice work :) like the boxed design a lot, it has impact on the trucks. Not a thing I would change.
Thanks,
Craig

Moz: hey thanks for the concept.......very funky! :D I think it might be a little too complicated for embroidery on t-shirts, hats etc. Any other ideas most welcome!

Juvanescence: thanks for the time you've spent on this design. Although I like the stylized tree, I don't think it's working on the trucks. Maybe too refined for what we do.......my fault!! Anyways, if you come up with any other concepts we're still open for ideas.
Thanks,
Craig

Mowling:  awesome designs Matt. I may like to ask for a few more minor changes, just mixing/matching some of the elements in the designs you've submitted so far. First things first though, could we please see the first two designs of the last three that you just posted on both trucks?
Thanks,
Craig

Sorry Craig, I was thinking that maybe you wanted to see my very first post on the trucks. I modified the design a bit to look batter on the truck. Let me know if it works for you.

Here is the white truck.

Waxwing: thank you for posting that but that isn't the design I wanted to see  If you go to the bottom of page 1 on our contest site, your original entry is there, that's the one I would really like to see, as is, on the white truck. :)
Thanks so much, I appreciate the time you've put into this!

Waxwing: Oooooops! Just saw your message now! Sorry, I do like the modified version you just posted, but as I have a lot of people who really like that original concept you did, we'd like to be able to view them on white truck - I realize the design would need a white background on the red truck.
Thanks,
Craig

Hi to everyone :) as we only have 2 days left, once we get revisions back we will narrow it down to 2 or 3 designs....we then would like to see these designs on t-shirts, hat, business card.
Thanks all very much,
Craig

Hello...here are those logos on trucks

Mowling

...and

capt. craig
03-30-2004, 07:55 PM
Mowling: both of the logos look incredible on the trucks - could we ask you to make a few more changes to these two designs.......?

1st design
- could you put the ripples you had before back into the water in the
lighthouse/porthole.
- do you think the evergreens need to be scaled down a little bit? I'm not sure if they are a bit too prominent when you look at the logo on the trucks....
- could you try Lake Erie in blue with green edges around letters and Property Maintenance in green.

2nd design
- again I'd like to see the ripples back in porthole......it may be too busy but I would like to see if it works.
- could we try Lake Erie in blue?

If you could post us these changes and also put them on trucks again. Could you put the phone number on trucks where you think they would look the best?

Thanks Matt,
Craig

Hello to designers - as we don't have all revisions back yet we will extend our contest a few more days(we realize there are lots of contests and everyone is busy :) ).

Thank you to all the designers who have participated in our contest so far. The designs have all been excellent and unique and it was hard to narrow it down but after showing the designs around to get some feedback, Mowling's design with lighthouse and evergreens (Mar 29 posting) and Waxwing"s oval with negative tree/lake (Mar 29 posting) are now the designs in the running.

As we are letting the contest run another few days, we are still very open to any new ideas any of you might have  We have been browsing this site and would really like to see a design similar to the one that Cadii did for Hayden Landscaping.......we like the solid look to this design, everything ties together with no white space. If anyone wants to try one like this we'd like stylized type extending outside of background borders with maybe evergreens/pines entending up out of border at top, on land leading into water....water/sky as background colour ). If that makes any sense to anyone, could you give it a try?

Mowling - looking forward to seeing your revisions when you have time :D

Thanks to all,
Craig

Waxwing,

Thanks for your Mar 29 posting with the design on trucks and business card, looks good. :)

We would like to see this design on a t-shirt - thanks.

Mowling,

The embroidery guy that would be doing our t-shirts would like to see if you can get your design down from 51/2" to 31/2", max 4", width. Can you do that if you eliminate some of the white space between lettering and images etc? It might make a tighter design too.

If this is not too much trouble show us this revision and also on t-shirt, business card and trucks.

thanks Matt,
Craig

Matt let me rephrase what my wife said, the embroidery guy said it may not be clear enough for a logo on a shirt , he said the standard size is 3 1/2 " max 4" we would like to see it that size to see what it looks like, without eliminating anything at this point thanks Craig

Mowling

Craig...I currently have the logo posted at around 2" in length on screen. If I post it at 4" it will be larger than what I have posted. I don't "on screen" will help you.
I will post it that size anyways. I will wait to post the design on any other type of media...since this potentially could eliminate my logo.

thanks,
Matt

Mowling,

thanks for your reply. I'm a little confused about this whole reduction thing, but I guess we just need to see your design reduced to a normal logo size that would fit on a t-shirt - 31/2" width?

thanks Matt,
Craig

Mowling,

After rereading your last post I don't know if I was clear in asking you for what we need..........could we see your design on screen the size it would appear if it was on a t-shirt?

thanks,
Craig

After careful consideration of the two finalist's designs, we have decided that Mowling is the winner of our contest!

Thank you Waxwing for all of your ideas - and revisions! - it was a difficult decision! We really liked your design on the trucks, it really looked great. It came down to liking the more nautical feel of Matt's design. Thanks again for all of the time you gave our contest.

Mowling,

Matt we really like your design! Thank you for showing us the design on the t-shirts - that helped us make our decision. Although we will lose the detail on the lighthouse when reduced, the silhouette will work fine. Many thanks for your time and patience!!!
The only revision I would like to see is a change of colour - could you show us your Mar 19, 9:49 pm colours (the brighter green and different blue) on your Apr 1, 9:26 design ( one with the trees reduced slightly). I think the brighter colour may make the logo more consumer friendly - I think the darker colours tend to make it seem more like a conservation logo.

thanks,
Craig

Thank You Craig :) I have a lot on my plate tonight...so I don't know if I will be able to get the revision. If not, I will have it tomorrow.

thanks Matt. we like the color change to brighter green that you did. I will have to find out what files I will need for the truck graphics (unless you know) also what would I need for letterhead? what color shirts would you suggest? we were thinking burgandy, beige or tan . what do you think? We really like the logo and are excited about using it . thanks again Craig

Craig...the sign co. that will do your graphics should be able to use an .eps file and the same goes for your printer. I would go with Beige or tan on the shirts.
I will send you the files tomorrow.

thanks,
Matt
